About Mike

My name is Mike. I am retired from the US Coast Guard. I now manage the eCommerce site www.Chart-Art.com. My wife Ann and I like to travel and spend as much time as we can with our children and grandchildren.

Mike purchased this house in 1985

Why Mike chose Two Rivers

My parents lived next door to this house on property they had purchased from the previous owners of this property. The previous owners (who were the original homesteaders) eventually passed ownership to their youngest son. That owner, Leo, finding it difficult to afford the basics of life, convinced Ann & I to purchase the property and allow him life estate. We eventually did just that. In 2002 Leo went back to heaven. Ann and I didn't want to sell the house because there is a large beautiful barn and two other outbuildings that we use as a wood working shop and for storage. We then figured that since this is such a beautiful area and so many people always fill the Point Beach State Forest campgrounds, that we could offer the house as an alternative to sleeping on the ground in a tent. So 20 years after we purchased the property we took the one bedroom one bath house down to the studs and remodeled it into a 3 bedroom, 3 full bath, fully furnished and outfitted get away for those who like comfort in their vacation accomodations. Our pricing isn't really that much more than a hotel room but we have many many more amenities and a lot more room than a hotel. Don't neglect to read the reviews below. I believe you will find that we were successful in our endeavor to make it a nice place to stay. We hope we can welcome you to our get-away.

What makes this house unique

When you arrive you see this quaint old farm house on an expansive yard with large trees for shade and plenty of open grass to relax in the sunshine, play ball, set up your croquet set. The house sits next to a beautifully cared for barn. (also built by Al Capone) When you enter the house you will notice the attention to detail that we put into the remodel. Rounded corners on all the walls; high end appliances (including washer and dryer);wireless Internet, flat screen TV, free telephone;100s of books and nice soft chairs to sit around the fireplace if it's chilly outside. Perfect for families who like their space and perfect for 2 or 3 couples looking to get away and enjoy all the amenities of a fully outfitted home rather than a hotel room.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a great house and piece of property!!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back after spending almost a week at the house for a family reunion in the area and I can't say enough good things about the house , the property and the owner, Mike! The house has a great layout and is extremely comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious. The kitchen is great and had everything we needed and plenty more. The owner has gone above and beyond to make sure the entire home is stocked with almost everything you'll need for your stay. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly and the only drawback for us was that we couldn't get a cell signal in the home (thanks AT&T) but it didn't mater because the owner has a land line in the home. This area of Wisconsin is beautiful and there is plenty to do once you leave the house. The owner Mike is great to deal with and very accommodating and has done a amazing job on this old home making it feel new and fresh. We can't wait to stay here again and hope next year's family reunion is bak in Two Rivers! Thanks for everything Mike!!

Owner's Response: Wow, we love it when we hear guests say they love the house, because that's what our goal was when Ann & I decided to fix it up for a vacation rental. Cell phone coverage, for the most part, is just not good in our vacation rental location, but that is why we have a land line with free calls throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. We thank you Tim and family, for your very kind comments. Hope to see you again

Lovely cottage in pristine condition.

  • 5 of 5

Renovations kept the cottage style with modern amenities added. Anything you could want in a vacation cottage was provided. We loved the location: quiet, yet easy to get area attractions and restaurants. It worked perfectly for our sister quilting vacation!

Lovely

  • 4 of 5

We absolutely loved the place, but unfortunately we all have arthritis and other difficulties making walking the uneven ground very difficult. Also, because of those difficulties, taking the stairs upstairs with only one handrail was hard. However, as I said it was a beautiful place all in all and would recommend it for those who don't have health issues.

Owner's Response: Ann & I are disappointed that we received our first ever less than 5 star rating in 12 years of operation. I've checked with several owners of houses with stairs and didn't find one that had a railing on both sides.

Great location, responsive owner

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we've stayed here (guys' weekend out) in the last few years. It's quite nice. We like being near the bike trail and the lake. We also went to town to use the tennis courts and library. Very friendly town. Our favorite dinner had changed into a Mexican place, but we found another dinner that was nearly as nice.

We did have one problem with the AC. Once the owner became aware, he had someone out within the hour to fix it. It wasn't hugely hot (high in the 80s?) so the heat wasn't unbearable, but it was great that they got it up and running in less than a couple of hours from when he was made aware.

It isn't fancy in any sense. But everything is quite nice. Really appreciated the high-end washer and dryer. Beds were fine. Bathrooms are nice. Really liked the easy access to the (wonderful) bike trail.

We'll be back.

Wonderful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Our first time booking an entire home. Loved the kitchen and being able to make some of the meals vs eating out so much. House was very spacious, clean and lots of bathrooms for everyone! Thank you for such a wonderful place.
