About Cate Bleser

The Tall One in the photo bought the home when, let’s just say, it wasn’t pretty. The Short One is me, -- I run BeachTown Properties, with Smiling Bear Cabin being the first outlet for my vacation rental idea.

Although I didn't know Paul when he first bought this property, as a real estate agent I had shown it to some prospective buyers back when it was for sale. It was in such a bad state that I remember weeping, and praying with my whole heart, wishing the whole broken mess of a home could be made new, clean, and right.

Given that honest prayer, it was a blessing, honor, and a delight to end up meeting and getting to know Paul, and see the place improve and be made right over a span of years with what he and his workers had collectively thought out and done with this property.

His workers back in the day were an Amish friend, Milo & sons, and Carlos, a loyal right hand man for Paul for many years, plus a mix & match of other willing workers. There was a lot of good heart put into this property.

The real estate market had crashed shortly after Paul purchased the property, and there were more unseen things to fix than he realized so it became a long-shot money pit project that they would work on intermittently when possible. After several years a finished product emerged.

Knowing at the time he could not get out financially what he had put into it, and loving it so much he couldn’t imagine really parting with it, he furnished it for longer month to month work/stays. That was a good start but after his last long term tenant left back in 2014, he turned the reins over to me to see what I could do with my “vacation rental” idea. That was the beginning of my new world.

Paul and I are both real estate agents, for I think 14 years now for me and a bit longer for him. He is also a licensed contractor, a real estate investor/landlord, & crop farmer. Paul is a widower w/4 grown children & 2 grandkids. I am a single mother of 1 grown child.

Cate Bleser purchased this house in 2006

Why Cate Bleser chose Two Rivers

The colors of Lake Michigan are changing every day and change within the day so it is always nice to be at the Smiling Bear Cabin because you can see the lake from just about every room in the house and from much of the yard. It is amazing to see the drama of a big storm play out on the lake, as well as to enjoy the delight of sunshine. Even when it is gray, I find it's extraordinary to be there to take in the beauty of the lake.

Great views of Lake Michigan and open common area

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay despite very cold weather for New Years Eve weekend. The house was cozy and warm. Lots of nice touches, there was tea in the cabinet that we shared some. Beds were comfy and the house was clean. The main living area was a nice space to spend time enjoying each other’s company. Would like to stay again when we can enjoy walking by the lake!

good location; good layout

  • 4 of 5

We have been here for a holiday for a few years now. For the most part, it has been great. My main suggestion would be to make it better for handicap accessibility, as my elderly mother has issues getting inside. Once inside, the first floor works very well for people with mobility issues. Minor thing--the large non-stick frying pan needs replacing; the coating is very scratched and coming off. Overall, we have not been disappointed with this house.

Owner's Response: We are glad for the feedback regarding the ease of mobility once inside and will certainly endeavor to get a ramp on site and thereby can advertise handicap accessible! We had thought about it in the past and this will motivate us to make it happen. I DO try to keep up on the teflon fry pan situation, and keep non-teflon pans in every size too because teflon does scratch easy and I myself don't like to use them. I think the large pan referred to here really SHOULD have been removed- I can picture it and considered removing it but it was so large and I didn't immediately have a replacement. There were enough other pans but I appreciate the feedback and will definitely get that one out of the mix [as it really isn't healthy to use them when they are scratched] and will put another Jumbo Pan on the "look for" list.

Smiling Bear A True Delight

  • 5 of 5

This property is very nice, and located in great location! You can go to Two Rivers or Manitowoc via the bike/walking trail, or very easily by vehicle. Cate, the manager, was a delight to work with, and provided a lot of information about the local area. She responds quickly to any concerns regarding the home or area. The property is well kept, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Huge yard, gorgeous view of the lake, beautifully maintained

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent "framily" gathering this past weekend! Views of Lake Michigan from our bedroom window gave the trip a feeling of being way up north yet we were right in town in Two Rivers. Large kitchen with accompanying large table for bigger groups (we had 12). Everything is labeled and easy to find including toiletries, cleaning supplies, and even condiments in the fridge! We enjoyed yard games in the gigantic backyard area and had a blast playing volleyball. Lots of sleeping space. You can tell the owners take pride in this property. Order pizza from Luigi's!
