About Donna Davis

Johnnie and Donna came from the deep South, so southern hospitality is a part of who they are. Like other young couples, they came to Alaska seeking an adventure, reared their family, and now enjoy their grandchildren.

Johnnie has worked in the Information Technology department of the local electric cooperative for over 36 years. Donna worked as an Administrative Director of the local community senior center, managed an adult day care program for the frail and elderly in a home-based business for 15 years, and recently retired.

Now they are ready for their next adventure, sharing their home and hosting families so others can enjoy their own Alaskan adventure.

Why Donna Davis chose Palmer

Palmer is a small community town, populated by colonists in the 1930s, with a lot of history that is still remembered and celebrated with Colony Day events in June and December. Combine the small community atmosphere with the breathtaking beauty of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley surrounded by mountains; add the long days of summer that produce the most extraordinary flowers and vegetables highly admired at the Alaska State Fair in late August; and top it off with all the fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling, snow machining, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing in your front and back yard. We have been blessed to have found our small piece of the Last Frontier.

What makes this lodge unique

Location, location, location! Moose Comfortable Vacation Rentals is located on over 3 acres of Alaska wilderness, surrounded by spectacular panoramic views of the Chugach Mountain Range, Pioneer Peak, and the Knik Glacier. Canoe Lake (stocked with fish) is within walking distance and just a bit further is the Kepler-Bradley Lake State Recreation Reserve that includes miles of well-maintained and marked wilderness trails that weave among 13 lakes with stunning mountain views along the way. We border the Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge which is rich with wildlife, moose, wolf, beaver, etc., salmon streams, nesting eagles along with other birds of prey, water fowl and migratory birds.

Yet, just a few miles away you will find great restaurants, fun shopping, emergency clinics, and a hospital. And the city of Anchorage, with all of its attractions, is only 35 miles away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a truly wonderful place to stay. It is clean, cozy, quiet, attractive and with all the comforts of home. On a scale of 1-10, it is definitely a "10". I am amazed at all the extras the owners have provided to make the Lazy Bear equipped with anything and everything their guests may need. A great big thank you!! We look forward to staying here again the next time we come to Alaska. Simply could not have asked for a better place to stay.

Family reunion at the best place in Alaska

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a nice place to have a family reunion and boy did we find it. Our stay was made so comfortable by the owners as they wanted us to have the best family celebration as possible. They made us feel so welcome and the Lazy Bear Suite was so comfy and cozy . They provided all the comforts of home and more. There wasn't anything overlooked. The beds were so comfortable that it made sleeping so good. All the furnishings were provided with nothing left unturned. Their generosity with details like muffins, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, were provided for a nice treat. The owners provided points of interest to visit and they provided all the brochures needed including maps to all places. The comforts of home even included a washer and dryer and a dishwasher. We couldn't believe how everything was thought of.

The view was stunning from the front porch with views of snow capped mountains, and there was plenty of room for all to enjoy including the fire pit, the playground area and bar-b-que areas for all the hamburgers and hot dogs you can cook. Parking was close to the suite and had easy access too. There were many close by lakes to fish at and the owners provided fishing poles for us to use. The town of Palmer was quaint and the museum was interesting and we found the gardens to be big and beautiful.

We will return for another visit in the future and we recommend Moose Comfortable Vacation Rentals to everyone.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully decorated and beautifully appointed. You will want for nothing, everything is provided and everything is top quality. As a matter of fact, even if you have to drive out of you way to stay here, do it. The view from your dining area table and back porch is beautiful. We cooked on the top quality grill outside and had wine while overlooking the mountain range. The owners/managers Johnny and Donna are extremely responsive to all your communications. It is close to Wasilla which is a prosperous area and all types of stores are there, including what has become our favorite grocery store, Fred Meyer. It is 60 miles from the Matanuska Glacier where you can take a tour of the glacier or just walk out on it by yourself. It will cost you $30 to walk the glacier or $100 to take a guided tour. The owners/managers Johnny and Donna are extremely responsive to all your communications.

Our family was very impressed with the 3 suites.

  • 5 of 5

We were in AK to watch ABL baseball & to do a little sightseeing and exploring. When we first walked into the suites, we said, "Wow! These are beautiful." The suites were very clean, decorated nicely, had all the basics we needed for our stay, and the location near Palmer and Anchorage was perfect for our family. The owners were very friendly and willing to make our stay great in any way. They were also very accessible if needed. We really enjoyed having a grill, internet, a washer & dryer, and the capability to have access between two of the suites. The views are amazing and the property is really nice. We would definitely come back & highly recommend it. We didn't get a chance to use the fire pit or to spend a lot of time outside due to the weather, but that would have only enhanced the visit even more. Beautiful property!

Just lovely

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed a few nights in the Lazy Bear suite. Upon arriving I was shocked that the place looked exactly like the pictures, no bait and switch here whatsoever. Everything was clean and beautiful and perfectly appointed. They even left us recommendations for breakfast which we absolutely took advantage of. Very cozy place. I couldn't have been more pleased.
