Johnnie and Donna came from the deep South, so southern hospitality is a part of who they are. Like other young couples, they came to Alaska seeking an adventure, reared their family, and now enjoy their grandchildren.
Johnnie has worked in the Information Technology department of the local electric cooperative for over 36 years. Donna worked as an Administrative Director of the local community senior center, managed an adult day care program for the frail and elderly in a home-based business for 15 years, and recently retired.
Now they are ready for their next adventure, sharing their home and hosting families so others can enjoy their own Alaskan adventure.
Palmer is a small community town, populated by colonists in the 1930s, with a lot of history that is still remembered and celebrated with Colony Day events in June and December. Combine the small community atmosphere with the breathtaking beauty of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley surrounded by mountains; add the long days of summer that produce the most extraordinary flowers and vegetables highly admired at the Alaska State Fair in late August; and top it off with all the fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling, snow machining, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing in your front and back yard. We have been blessed to have found our small piece of the Last Frontier.
Location, location, location! Moose Comfortable Vacation Rentals is located on over 3 acres of Alaska wilderness, surrounded by spectacular panoramic views of the Chugach Mountain Range, Pioneer Peak, and the Knik Glacier. Canoe Lake (stocked with fish) is within walking distance and just a bit further is the Kepler-Bradley Lake State Recreation Reserve that includes miles of well-maintained and marked wilderness trails that weave among 13 lakes with stunning mountain views along the way. We border the Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge which is rich with wildlife, moose, wolf, beaver, etc., salmon streams, nesting eagles along with other birds of prey, water fowl and migratory birds.
Yet, just a few miles away you will find great restaurants, fun shopping, emergency clinics, and a hospital. And the city of Anchorage, with all of its attractions, is only 35 miles away.
My husband and I just absolutely loved the stay in the bear cabin. No detail was missed. From the minute we walked in the door until we sadly had to depart we just felt at home, relaxed and comfortable. The fireplace was going and there were many amenities like an outdoor grill and a beautiful area with a fire pit. My husband and I had coffee in the mornings and watched the sun rise over the mountains. We felt like we were miles away but only a few short miles from Palmer. The town was adorable and all amenities and shopping were close and easy to access. Remarkable hiking, fishing and outdoor adventures were within 20 minutes. Hatchers Pass is a must for those who love hiking or Gold mining history buffs We will definely be repeat customers. Thanks for the wonderful Mat-Su Valley stay!!
My wife and I unloaded our things and headed out to the Alaska State Fair just down the road. Upon our return we noticed that the owners (Johnnie & Donna) had placed some candy and giant muffins on the counter top for us --- such a nice touch. We were so pleased with the suite and wish we had more time than the 3 days there. It is furnished so perfectly with the Lazy Bear theme and everything is top notch from the bed, appliances, TV's and everything else. Our next trip to Alaska will certainly include another stay at this wonderful suite and location.
Beautiful suite with tremendous view. Everything one needs for a short or long stay. Alaska "Bear" decor was so cute. Loved the place and would definitely stay again. Thanks.
This was my 2nd time staying here. See my previous review. Everything was just as excellent as the first visit. The Davis' are great people. I highly recommend their rental suites.
The Lazy Bear not only met, but wildly exceeded our expectations! We arrived in Alaska just before midnight very tired and stressed from our journey up from Colorado. We walked into our suite and felt instantly at home. The bed was so comfy; we usually have trouble sleeping away from home, but that wasn't a problem here! The next morning we went grocery shopping and spent the day settling in. We noticed all of the details in the Lazy Bear--decor, pamphlets for local attractions, books in the bookshelf, and some muffins on the counter. It was Father's Day, we cooked a lovely steak dinner on the grill and sat on the deck overlooking the mountains--it was so tranquil. We had a very very busy week and every night we looked forward to going back to the Lazy Bear--it was our home away from home. I cannot thank Donna and Johnnie Davis enough for creating such an amazing experience for us! We will be recommending the Lazy Bear and staying there the next time we go to Alaska!

I stayed in the Lazy Bear suite for a month while looking at real estate in Alaska. I've traveled quite a bit over the years and this place was by far the best experience I've ever had in any hotel, cabin, B&B, or any other type of rental. The owners obviously put a lot of thought and effort into every last detail of how the suite was outfitted. There is a beautiful view from the windows and the area is very quiet. The interior is decorated very nice. And the owners are wonderful people...very down to earth and friendly. I can't think of one single thing that needs any improvement in the suite or on the property. I'm sure I'll be back and I will tell friends and family back in Texas they need to stay in the Lazy Bear suite or one of the other two when they visit Alaska.
