A Haven in Cenac
We loved every minute of our time in this wonderful home and village. Cenac et St Julien exceeded every expectation, and the Tena's home did as well. We spent most of our time in the kitchen or out by the pool, and slept soundly and peacefully in the air conditioned bedrooms.
My husband loved the hot tub, especially after walks up and down the hills. We did not have any trouble with the temperature in the hot tub, and my husband found that prior to his soaking he would run the tub for a few minutes to heat up a bit, and this worked perfectly.
The views are incredible, and I must have taken 500 pictures. The birdsong was so lovely and we enjoyed long evening walks on the trails near the house. Each morning I made the short drive into Cenac for croissants and bread, and the Tuesday Market day was perfect for us. We are already planning our next visit and hope to spend even more time at this property as a week was just not enough!
The property we stayed in was a beautiful house with a fantastic view. However the location marker on your website had the property located in Cenac, close to amenities and restaurants which we wanted in walking distance. when infact it was in St-Julien. Not walking distance. We contacted the owners to see if they were aware of this, and they told us that it was down to yourselves. They have obviously been in touch with you as we can see the marker has been moved to the correct place. We also had no jacuzzi all week. When the girls went to use it on the Sunday the temp was below30, we contacted the owner and they sent someone out to look at it, which they did, and through that evening the temp was slowly going up. However when we got back on the following day
looking forward to a jacuzzi the temp had gone down again. We contacted the owner again and after a conversation with them they told us an engineer would be sent out. But nobody came out so we had no jacuzzi all week.
We chose the property on location and the added bonus of the jacuzzi. But we ended up with neither.
Re the jacuzzi remark , it had been fully checked by an expert the week before arrival as it was the start of the season. We also tested it ourselves as we always do with the property before any start of the rental season and it worked perfectly. It was set up at 37° on standard mode upon arrival of the guests to enjoy a warm water during their stay. The guests used it at 37° but they pushed the buttons and changed the set up from Standard to Economy bringing the temperature down to 26°.Then they called me because the water was too cold . The very next day, I sent someone who put it back to 37° Standard mode . Again, while using the jacuzzi , the guests changed the mode and ended up with water below 30°, calling me again to complain . I got an expert on the coming Saturday that made a full check and informed us that the jacuzzi was in perfect working conditions but the set up had simply been changed while being used by the guests.
1.We never had any issue with the jacuzzi with previous guests.
2.We currently have 4 guests staying 2 weeks in the property and enjoying a warm 37° jacuzzi every day as they do not change the set up mode.
3.If guests change the set up by mistake once, we can send someone to fix it. If the device has a technical issue , we sent someone asap because it is our responsibility.
But we cannot send someone every day to fix the same mistake again and again.
When we are not owners and we rent ourselves a property , we try to have a sense of responsibility and we do not complain to owners for our own mistakes.
A slice of heaven
My husband, adult son and his girlfriend spent a glorious week in Perigord Noir. The manor house was large plenty of privacy and exceptionally quiet. Lovely kitchen, dining area, nice bedrooms and baths. There is nothing like the birdsong of rural France. Centrally located for the magnificent sites of Dordogne and Vezere valleys. I’d return in a heartbeat.
We really appreciated your wonderful review and we are very pleased that you enjoyed so much our house and the beautiful region of the Dordogne. You are always welcome on your next stay.
An amazing place
If I had never left the house and surrounding countryside the experience of the Dordogne, for myself and my family, would have been complete. For a week we shopped in the local markets and ate all of our meals but one around the wonderful kitchen table or in the garden, built a fire in the beautiful fireplace and played board games, we walked to nearby villages through fields of wildflowers and orchards of walnuts, explored along the river, visited castles and caves, canoed along the Dordogne. It was amazing for all of us (4 adults, a 10 year old and a 7 year old). I wish it was mine and I could have stayed there.
Excellent house in a beautiful setting
We stayed (4/5 people) at Clos St Julien for two weeks and would stay again---that's the ultimate test. The house is located in a small hamlet about 2 miles from Cenac, so it has a wonderful rural setting, quiet, with very nice walking opportunities to the Dordogne river nearby and across walnut groves. Well-furnished, comfortable, and more like a friend's house than a vacation rental. Gabriele (Owner) is very responsive and professional.
Lovely old manor house with Character and Style
This was out second stay at the Manor house and we had another great two weeks. The house is around 16th century with lovely high ceilings and each room has great character.
It has a stunning open spiral staircase up into the lounge and bedrooms which might be difficult for small children and the upper bedrooms had restricted headroom due to the loft but they were beautiful rooms full of character and the en-suite facilities were also modern and efficient.
The pool and Jacuzzi are beautifully kept and the pool and sunbathing area also has sufficient shade for when the sun was too much!
The house had very efficient and quiet air conditioning for all the rooms but the walls were so think anyway the house generally was quite cool. Good quality kitchen and TV equipment plus effective WiFi.
The house and garden was beautifully clean on arrival.
We also liked Cenac et St Julien because it was a good location for exploring the area - like Rocamdour, the markets at Sarlat, the cave paintings at Lascaux, Canoeing (a big canoe rental firm is in Cenac) or you could easily drive to the pretty Castle and village at Beynac, the beautiful gardens at Marqueyssac or Chateau Castelnaud all within 20 or 30 minutes of easy driving.( Rocamadour a bit farther)
The garden and pool are was quite and not overlooked and allowed lovely views of the valley and the soaring Black Kites flying in groups overhead with their piercing calls.
Situated in the the heart of the Dordogne valley in th golden Triangle of the Perigord Noir. Nearby you will find medieval castles and prehistoric caves. The situation of the Manor House allows you to visit all these amazing placees in no time and various hiking trails start right off the house.
Fine Dordogne river beaches are within 5 miutes walk.
This place is a combinaison of relaxing, sightseeing and enjoying gourmet food. A concentration of peace and refinement.
