The area of Cannaregio is very Venetian, all shops are in the vicinity: market, Butcher, grocer, fish, bars, restaurants, banks, supermarkets, pharmacies, all within a radius of 200/400 meters. The apartment accommodates up to 6 people.
Cannaregio is the northernmost of the historic six sestieri (districts) of Venice. It is the second largest in the area and the largest by the population,
The Cannaregio Canal, which was the main road in the city until the construction of a railway link to the mainland, gave the district its name. Development began in the eleventh century as the area was drained and parallel channels were dredged. Although elegant Argos-Normans were built in front of the Grand Canal, the region grew mainly with the working class housing and manufacturing. The history of the Ghetto of Venice is fascinating. When on March 29, 1516, the government of Serenissima Repubblica issued special laws, the first Ghetto of Europe was instituted. This is an area where Jews were forced to live and they could not go from sunset to dawn. The area was closed by gates guarded by guards and so far the hinge marks are visible there. Jews were allowed to practice only in certain professions: they were doctors, because they were the most willing and able to understand the Arabic writings, lenders of money, because the Catholic religion prohibited this practice, traders and " Strazzarioli ", ragsellers. However, Jews occupied successful positions in the city as merchants, doctors, money lenders and other trades. The Ghetto has existed for more than two centuries, until Napoleon conquered Venice and finally opened and eliminated every door (1797): the Jews were finally free to live in other areas of the city.
In the 19th century, civil engineers built a street named Strada Nuova, through Cannaregio and a railway bridge and the bridge of the road were built to connect Venice directly to Mestre. Today, the areas of the district along the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge Station are highly frequented by tourists, but the rest of Cannaregio is residential and relatively peaceful, with morning markets, neighborhood shops and small cafes.
Upon arrival at the apartment we will ask you for the cash payment of the "Tassa di Soggiorno" that the Municipality of Venice has recently established for the private apartments for rent (currently 1. 5 euros / person / night). You will receive a receipt for this payment.

It was fabulous we hope we can do it again next year
Our visit could not have been any better; we absolutely loved it !!!!
Excellent Location and Apartment
Beautiful apartment (large) which was very nicely furnished and extremely well cared for. Air conditioned worked very well. Beautiful views. Apartment is in a quite location above/adjacent to a great restaurant. Met at the apartment by owner's family. Very easy communication prior to arrival and once in Venice. Easy walk to the supermarket and restaurants. Good access for water taxi. Per my son, Wifi worked extremely well. We would most definitely stay here again.
Beautiful property in a wonderful location
Nice quiet accomodation a short walk to main attractions
We stayed just two nights in July 2017. Very charming and clean. The contact person met us at the apartment as scheduled. The move in and move out was smooth and simple. There was a bit of noise from the restaurant patrons dining along the canal out in front of the apartment, but it generally ended by around 10:30 p.m. One evening there was an accordion player serenading the diners which provided a nice ambiance. The location is in a quiet part of Venice away from the tourist areas, though you can reach most of the busy tourist locations with just a 5 to 10 minute walk. Be aware that a significant cleaning fee will be added to your booking. Our fee was $180 Euros, which adds quite a bit to the daily rate if you're only staying two nights. Overall a very good experience.
A very nice apartment in a quiet neighborhood
The location is perfect for getting to the bustle of Venice but then allowing you to retreat to a lovely and quieter area. Steve was very helpful before our stay and his father Michel welcomed us when we got there. I would recommend this location highly.
