Clean and cozy, 550 sq. ft cottage with kitchenette, laundry, view from patio.
Bay Cove Cottage A is one side of a rustic 1940s cottage duplex. It is a clean and cozy, brightly colored, 550 sq ft apartment with one bedroom and a fold-out couch in the living room. The kitchen and bathroom with shower are simple, and retain original vintage character. There is no stove or oven, but a microwave, skillet, a portable single burner rangette, for preparation of simple meals, and a small refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The vintage bathroom is small, with no tub and the shower has a small entry (16 inches wide). We are offering the cottages as the budget option of Bay Cove properties and offer few amenities. Cable TV is provided, wifi is available throughout, there is a full-sized refrigerator with ice maker, and a coin-operated laundry service in a separate room in the duplex. Cottage A is the side of the duplex next to Cape Arago Hwy, and has more road noise than Cottage B. There is no bay view from the apartment, but a small backyard and a small patio with fire pit are available for a spectacular view of the bay and Charleston harbor. A laundry room with tall table and chairs offers great bay views while enjoying coffee or a glass of wine, when the weather is not suitable for patio use. The owner's residence is nearby, on the same lot as the cottages, and may also be rented. We can direct you to easy bayshore access that requires a 500 foot walk along Cape Arago Hwy., or other easy bay access for clamming or crabbing within short driving distances.

About John and Candy Chatt
We are a retired couple, John a federal wildlife biologist, Candy a swim coach and airline employee, and both former Nebraska farmers. We consider ourselves adventurous, spontaneous, budget travelers and love meeting new people to share travel experiences.
Why John and Candy Chatt chose Charleston
We have lived in the immediate area since moving to Coos Bay from Corvallis in 1999. We recently moved into a home that we thought would be a perfect place to share with others in beautiful Charleston, on the southern coast of Oregon. We enjoy outdoor activities, birdwatching, hiking, kayaking and just observing the wonders of nature.
What makes this Cottage unique
We felt fortunate to happen across this wonderful part of our country, the best overall climate we have ever encountered, fresh air, and plenty of room to wander to our heart's content, without the hustle and bustle found in so many other places. We love the diversity of habitats in the area and the associated diversity of bird species that are regularly seen. The views and solitude of walking on a private beach provide a never ending source of enjoyment and relaxation. We felt even more fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire additional similar property within 500 feet of our home. We always considered this property as having great potential as a vacation rental, and now we are trying to make that dream come true.

Property is very nice
Host is very pleasant and unit is very clean and comfortable
Great little house, everything we needed and host was helpful showing us around.
Place was clean and comfy though small, it was perfect for us. Host was gracious and helpful. Loved the place to relax and enjoy the view in the laundry room, should be renamed common area, with shared refrigerator and laundry, with high table and 2 chairs for the view when weather isn’t ideal for the outside patio. Great restaurant suggestions and loved Simpson Point for viewing the sea lions, all short drive away.
Beautiful location, pleasant and clean interior.
Though the shower has a quite small entrance (too small for a larger person most likely), the entire house was very well stocked; comfortable & welcoming. Though this section does not have views of the bay from inside, the small backyard area has a lovely view. Additionally, the wifi worked very well even for streaming as there appeared to be a separate modem for each residency. Though not immediately in town all necessary provisions are within a short drive.
Great place, great location and fantastic owners! Enjoyed my stay.
A wonderful week in Charleston at Bay Cove Cottage A
John and Candy could not have been more gracious hosts! We felt as if we were staying with good friends. This was our first time staying at Bay Cove Cottage A and we weren't sure what to expect. The cottage was comfy and extremely clean. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
A delightful, charming place with everything you need to make it a comfortable stay.
A delightful, charming place with everything you need to make it a comfortable stay. A nice touch where chairs were provided in the back for a nice view of the bay for morning coffee or an afternoon sit. Another nice thing was a larger frig in the back with all kinds of stuff provided, butter, sodas, dressings, etc. A little something if you forgot something. the enclosed room has a nice high table with a telescope and binoculars' to look to the bay. the bay has all the commercial fishing boats...kind of cool to see. Enjoy your stay!!! the noise was ok although we were on the street side. If it matters, request cottage B. We had A. I liked A better...
We love the breathtaking views in the area, including from our small patio. Charleston is an authentic fishing village and the entire area remains an unspoiled gem on the Oregon Coast. The area is a bird watching paradise for shorebirds and seabirds, as well as other species in the diverse habitat in the area. Harbor seals and sea lions are abundant and easily seen throughout the area. Whale watching is popular from several scenic points along Cape Arago Hwy, and the Shore Acres Formal Flower Gardens and holiday light display, scenic coastal hiking trails, and tide pools, are popular attractions, along with spectacular wave watching during winter storms. Our location is on on the bay near the beginning of the South Slough National Estuarine Reserve, and we can assist you with advice, maps, and tide info for a great kayak adventure into the Slough. Enjoy a relaxing golf game at nearby Sunset Bay Golf course (7 minutes away) or travel 19 miles to the world famous Bandon Dunes courses. Crabbing and clamming is available from the docks and the mudflats, and we would be glad to to provide a crab trap or a bucket and shovel for clamming along with a few pointers, and maybe even a demonstration to get you started.
