Bay Cove Cottage A is one side of a rustic 1940s cottage duplex. It is a clean and cozy, brightly colored, 550 sq ft apartment with one bedroom and a fold-out couch in the living room. The kitchen and bathroom with shower are simple, and retain original vintage character. There is no stove or oven, but a microwave, skillet, a portable single burner rangette, for preparation of simple meals, and a refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The vintage bathroom is small, with no tub and the shower has a small entry (16 inches wide). We are offering the cottages as the budget option of Bay Cove properties and offer few amenities. Cable TV is provided, wifi is available throughout, there is a full-sized refrigerator with ice maker, and a coin-operated laundry service in a separate room in the duplex. Cottage A is the side of the duplex next to Cape Arago Hwy, and has more road noise than Cottage B. There is no bay view from the apartment, but a small backyard and a small patio with fire pit are available for a spectacular view of the bay and Charleston harbor. A laundry room with tall table and chairs offers great bay views while enjoying coffee or a glass of wine, when the weather is not suitable for patio use. The owner's residence is nearby, on the same lot as the cottages, and may also be rented. We can direct you to easy bayshore access that requires a 500 foot walk along Cape Arago Hwy., or other easy bay access for clamming or crabbing within short driving distances.

About John and Candy Chatt
We are a retired couple, John a federal wildlife biologist, Candy a swim coach and airline employee, and both former Nebraska farmers. We consider ourselves adventurous, spontaneous, budget travelers and love meeting new people to share travel experiences.
Why John and Candy Chatt chose Coos Bay
We have lived in the immediate area since moving to Coos Bay from Corvallis in 1999. We recently moved into a home that we thought would be a perfect place to share with others in beautiful Charleston, on the southern coast of Oregon. We enjoy outdoor activities, birdwatching, hiking, kayaking and just observing the wonders of nature.
What makes this Cottage unique
We felt fortunate to happen across this wonderful part of our country, the best overall climate we have ever encountered, fresh air, and plenty of room to wander to our heart's content, without the hustle and bustle found in so many other places. We love the diversity of habitats in the area and the associated diversity of bird species that are regularly seen. The views and solitude of walking on a private beach provide a never ending source of enjoyment and relaxation. We felt even more fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire additional similar property within 500 feet of our home. We always considered this property as having great potential as a vacation rental, and now we are trying to make that dream come true.

A Great Place To Explore From
This is a great rental to come and explore what the Charleston/Bandon area has to offer. Very clean and right by many places to explore. Owners John and Candy have a great local knowledge of the area. It has a back patio to sit and watch the Charleston harbor.
Love the location!
My husband and I grew up in Coos. Bay and Charleston. The view and location was so fun. The attention to detail in our cottage was pretty great too. The tea collection was extensive and we were only moments from our favorite beaches and fresh seafood from the docks that your view looks over. Loved it, thank you.
It was a great spot for me.
Things were clean and tidy. I got useful feedback from the owners on local hiking trails, which was exactly what I was hoping to do while in the area.
Cute little Cottage
We felt at home in this cute little cottage. There was ample seating. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen had any small appliances that you could think of. The view from the "laundry room", and yard, was very nice. The bathroom was small, but we did fine with it. John and Candi are terrific hosts. If we are in the area, we would stay here again. Also, will recommend to family and friends.
We will be back
Perched on a bluff overlooking the working harbor of Charleston my girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay. Meticulously clean, very well stocked with basic cooking provisions and nice toiletries. Candie and John are very responsive and courteous hosts. We will be looking to stay here as often as we are able.
Cozy, but smoky
First, if u don't like cigarettes, this isn't the place to stay. Otherwise it was great. Very cute and cozy. The kitchen has everything u need including dishes, cutlery, cookware. There's also some basic spices and tea and coffee for those who like to still make their own while vacationing. There's plenty of blankets and pillows as well as toiletries. We adored this rental and found ourselves wishing the cigarette smell wasn't so bad so that we could come back. The cigarette smell was a very current and long time smoked in smell. This is confusing as it's supposed to be a nonsmoking rental. We used some air freshener and that helped. However the next day when we left we smelled like the ashtray smell. It was a bit embarrassing. The housekeeper mentioned to the hosts the presence of the air freshener and the owners apologized about the odor. They said that they were unaware of the issue. Although this is a mostly thumbs up review all together, we would never have stayed at this rental with knowledge of the odor.
It is true that our Bay Cove properties are smoke free! On a rare occurance we will have a guest who is a smoker and we have a strict policy they should smoke off the property. I have a feeling a guest in the other cottage was smoking too close to Cottage A and it must have drifted in the window. We were out of town and if this guest would have alerted us to the problem we would have done some investigating. Unfortunately, the amount of air freshner they used was much worse and we had to thoroughly wash all bedding even the items in the closets and air the cottage out for 2 days to make it smell fresh again. Our house keeper said she wasn't aware of any smoke smell when she left the property prior to their check in? We regret their dissatisfaction and we plan to be more diligent on people smoking outside our property. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I only wish we would have know when it happened.
We love the breathtaking views in the area, including from our small patio. Charleston is an authentic fishing village and the entire area remains an unspoiled gem on the Oregon Coast. The area is a bird watching paradise for shorebirds and seabirds, as well as other species in the diverse habitat in the area. Harbor seals and sea lions are abundant and easily seen throughout the area. Whale watching is popular from several scenic points along Cape Arago Hwy, and the Shore Acres Formal Flower Gardens and holiday light display, scenic coastal hiking trails, and tide pools, are popular attractions, along with spectacular wave watching during winter storms. Our location is on on the bay near the beginning of the South Slough National Estuarine Reserve, and we can assist you with advice, maps, and tide info for a great kayak adventure into the Slough. Enjoy a relaxing golf game at nearby Sunset Bay Golf course (7 minutes away) or travel 19 miles to the world famous Bandon Dunes courses. Crabbing and clamming is available from the docks and the mudflats, and we would be glad to to provide a crab trap or a bucket and shovel for clamming along with a few pointers, and maybe even a demonstration to get you started.
