Bay Cove Cottage B is one side of a rustic 1940s cottage duplex. It is a clean and cozy, the interior is a pastel-colored 550 sq ft apartment with one bedroom and a fold-out couch in the living room. The kitchen and bathroom with shower are simple, and retain original vintage character. There is no stove or oven, but a microwave, skillet, and portable single burner rangette, for the most basic cooking, and a small refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The vintage bathroom is small, with no tub and the shower has a small entry (16 inches wide). We are offering the cottages as the basic option of Bay Cove properties and offer few amenities. Cable TV is provided, Wifi is available throughout, there is a full-sized refrigerator with ice maker and a coin-operated laundry service in a separate room in the duplex. The owner's residence is nearby, on the same lot as the cottages, and may also be rented. There is partial bay view from the apartment, and a small patio with fire pit is available for a spectacular view of the bay and Charleston harbor. A laundry room with tall table and chairs offers great bay views while enjoying coffee or a glass of wine, when the weather is not suitable for patio use. We can direct you to easy bayshore access that requires a 500 foot walk along Cape Arago Hwy., or other easy bay access for clamming or crabbing within short driving distances of less than one mile.

About John and Candy Chatt
We are a retired couple, John a federal wildlife biologist, Candy a swim coach and airline employee, and both former Nebraska farmers. We consider ourselves adventurous, spontaneous, budget travelers and love meeting new people to share travel experiences.
John and Candy Chatt purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why John and Candy Chatt chose Charleston
We have lived in the immediate area since moving to Coos Bay from Corvallis in 1999. We recently moved into a home that we thought would be a perfect place to share with others in beautiful Charleston, on the southern coast of Oregon. We also enjoy all outdoor activities, birdwatching, hiking, kayaking and just observing the wonders of nature.
What makes this Cottage unique
We felt fortunate to happen across this wonderful part of our country, the best overall climate we have ever encountered, fresh air, and plenty of room to wander to our heart's content, without the hustle and bustle found in so many other places. We love the diversity of habitats in the area and the associated diversity of bird species that are regularly seen. The views and solitude of walking on a private beach provide a never ending source of enjoyment and relaxation. We felt even more fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire additional similar property within 500 feet of our home. We always considered this property as having great potential as a vacation rental, and now we are trying to make that dream come true.

Very clean, quaint, and private.
Enjoyed my stay while my son’s basketball team competed in nearby Coos Bay. Everything was exactly as advertised with no surprises. Bed was comfortable and they even had a grinder and pour over coffee maker (my preferable way to drink coffee). Met the owners by choice and they were very pleasant and hospitable. Highly recommend!
Beautiful, relaxing, the very best!
My husband and I love this property. John and Candy are very welcoming and everything was perfect. Charleston has everything you need. Delicious chowder, fresh shrimp, charm and some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. And as a unexpected treat it SNOWED!! Wonderful wonderful stay!❄️👏
Wow! Perfect getaway!
Clean, comfortable, lots of accessories. Very friendly and accommodating host. Quiet neighborhood (except for the occasional barking sea lion). We would definitely stay here again.
Charming, Sweet, Comfortable
The Title says it all... The bungalow was surprisingly quite even though close to the Cape Argo Hwy. The residence was clean, comfortable, cute as could be. I would highly recommend staying there. The only thing I missed was my dog.
The Walshes of Pennsylvania
A very warm & comfortable stay. The
hosts were very gracious.
What a quaint and adorable place. The place was spotless. The 1940's archeteture is sweet. The view on the property was breathtaking. Candy and John were so friendly, helpful and generous. I would stay here again, for sure.
We love the breathtaking views in the area, including from our backyard and deck. Charleston is an authentic fishing village and the entire area remains an unspoiled gem on the Oregon Coast. The area is a birdwatching paradise for shorebirds and seabirds, as well as other species in the diverse habitat in the area. Harbor seals and sea lions are abundant and easily seen throughout the area. Whale watching is popular from several scenic points along Cape Arago Hwy, and the Shore Acres Formal Flower Gardens and holiday light display, scenic coastal hiking trails, and tidepools, are popular attractions, along with spectacular wave watching during winter storms. Our location is on on the bay near the beginning of the South Slough National Estuarine Reserve, and we can assist you with advice, maps, and tide info for a great kayak adventure into the Slough. Enjoy a relaxing golf game at nearby Sunset Bay Golf course (7 minutes away) or travel 19 miles to the world famous Bandon Dunes courses. Crabbing and clamming is available from the docks and the mudflats, and we would be glad to to provide a crab trap or a bucket and shovel for clamming along with a few pointers, and maybe even a demonstration to get you started.
