Bay Cove Cottage B is one side of a rustic 1940s cottage duplex. It is a clean and cozy, the interior is a pastel-colored 550 sq ft apartment with one bedroom and a fold-out couch in the living room. The kitchen and bathroom with shower are simple, and retain original vintage character. There is no stove or oven, but a microwave, skillet, and portable single burner rangette, for the most basic cooking, and a refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The vintage bathroom is small, with no tub and the shower has a small entry (16 inches wide). We are offering the cottages as the basic option of Bay Cove properties and offer few amenities. Cable TV is provided, Wifi is available throughout, there is a full-sized refrigerator with ice maker and a coin-operated laundry service in a separate room in the duplex. The owner's residence is nearby, on the same lot as the cottages, and may also be rented. There is partial bay view from the apartment, and a small patio with fire pit is available for a spectacular view of the bay and Charleston harbor. A laundry room with tall table and chairs offers great bay views while enjoying coffee or a glass of wine, when the weather is not suitable for patio use. We can direct you to easy bayshore access that requires a 500 foot walk along Cape Arago Hwy., or other easy bay access for clamming or crabbing within short driving distances of less than one mile.

About John and Candy Chatt
We are a retired couple, John a federal wildlife biologist, Candy a swim coach and airline employee, and both former Nebraska farmers. We consider ourselves adventurous, spontaneous, budget travelers and love meeting new people to share travel experiences.
John and Candy Chatt purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why John and Candy Chatt chose Coos Bay
We have lived in the immediate area since moving to Coos Bay from Corvallis in 1999. We recently moved into a home that we thought would be a perfect place to share with others in beautiful Charleston, on the southern coast of Oregon. We also enjoy all outdoor activities, birdwatching, hiking, kayaking and just observing the wonders of nature.
What makes this Cottage unique
We felt fortunate to happen across this wonderful part of our country, the best overall climate we have ever encountered, fresh air, and plenty of room to wander to our heart's content, without the hustle and bustle found in so many other places. We love the diversity of habitats in the area and the associated diversity of bird species that are regularly seen. The views and solitude of walking on a private beach provide a never ending source of enjoyment and relaxation. We felt even more fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire additional similar property within 500 feet of our home. We always considered this property as having great potential as a vacation rental, and now we are trying to make that dream come true.

Nice clean spot with a great view
Joyce & I enjoyed our stay however because of your Pet policy well be unable to return Sorry Bob Bailey
We spent a short night at the Bay Cove Cottage, and it was very nice. John and Candy were there to welcome us and answer any questions we had. We arrived much later than planned so didn't spend a lot of time there, but it was well stocked with coffee, creamer and other essentials and there were plenty of towels and other necessities. Thanks, John and Candy!
This is one of the best vacation rentals I have ever stayed in! Fully stocked cupboards, plenty of linens and towels. There is no stove but was not a big deal as we ate evening meals out and had sandwiches for lunch. Property also has a treehouse and rope swing which our 7 year old loved. Walking distance to Charleston and quick drive to the end of the Cape. Since the property has new windows there is very little road noise. Great little area with comfy chairs to view the sunset and watch people clam on the beach below. Highly recommend this rental. Worked great for the three of us!
Very nice accommodations
Very clean, neat and comfortable. John and Candy made us feel very welcomed.
Cozy and Clean
My husband took me to the Oregon coast to celebrate my 50th birthday. I had only hoped our lodging would turn out great! This was a very well equipped little cottage and it was so clean and tidy! I sat outside and enjoyed the view of the little cove it sits above and all of its birds and sandy beach. It was so relaxing. John and Candy have provided everything a traveler could ask for. We were comfortable as we enjoyed the well stocked kitchen, bathroom and comfortable furniture. There is a separate space where you can do laundry, make an espresso and read up on fishing and shellfish hunting rules for the area. I hope to return and take advantage of the crabpots and bbq grill they have on hand.
Great location and great value!
We enjoyed our stay at Bay Cove. John and Candy were great hosts. We were able to borrow mud boots and jackets to go clamming and the laundry room is stocked with most anything you would be looking for. We used the fold out couch in the living room and many extra blankets and pillows were available to use. The queen sized bed was comfortable and kitchen was great to have. We opened the windows to have fresh cool air at night. One great feature is it is about 1/2 mile from Charleston pier which can easily be seen across the bay. This place worked well as our home away from home.
We love the breathtaking views in the area, including from our backyard and deck. Charleston is an authentic fishing village and the entire area remains an unspoiled gem on the Oregon Coast. The area is a birdwatching paradise for shorebirds and seabirds, as well as other species in the diverse habitat in the area. Harbor seals and sea lions are abundant and easily seen throughout the area. Whale watching is popular from several scenic points along Cape Arago Hwy, and the Shore Acres Formal Flower Gardens and holiday light display, scenic coastal hiking trails, and tidepools, are popular attractions, along with spectacular wave watching during winter storms. Our location is on on the bay near the beginning of the South Slough National Estuarine Reserve, and we can assist you with advice, maps, and tide info for a great kayak adventure into the Slough. Enjoy a relaxing golf game at nearby Sunset Bay Golf course (7 minutes away) or travel 19 miles to the world famous Bandon Dunes courses. Crabbing and clamming is available from the docks and the mudflats, and we would be glad to to provide a crab trap or a bucket and shovel for clamming along with a few pointers, and maybe even a demonstration to get you started.
