About the property

1BR Charming Cottage, 5-Minute Walk to Downtown

Why get a hotel room when you can enjoy one of Asheville's most charming neighborhoods? Just a five-minute walk from downtown, this beautifully renovated cottage is nestled next to a grove of trees and is handily close to a local café for that morning cup. The cozy bungalow in Asheville’s most charming and historic neighborhood is ideal for a romantic getaway, a writing retreat, or a family vacation.

Along with a queen-size bed in the master and a private loft upstairs with a full-size bed, Corner Cottage boasts granite countertops, a library with desk and easy chair, WiFi, walk-in closet, and a bathroom with bidet and open shower. The living room is bright and sunny, with a fireplace for chilly mountain nights. There is a Smart TV so that you can access Netflix or Amazon, as well as local channels. The fully enclosed backyard with a deck and grill affords a private and spacious outdoor environment for you and your pets to enjoy, and the rocker on the sunny front porch is the perfect place to catch up on your reading.

The cottage, located on a quiet street with a private driveway that has room for two cars, is decorated with Oriental carpets from the owner’s travels in the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia as well original artwork. It was completely refurbished in 2014. The comfortable and light-filled living room includes a spacious sofa, an electronic fireplace, and the hidden Smart TV. The open-plan kitchen includes seating for up to eight, a breakfast bar, and a built-in wine rack. There is a microwave, gas range, and all you need to whip up a gourmet meal from the produce you buy at the many local farmers' markets.

If you like good coffee and fresh-baked pastries for breakfast, they are steps away at a small locally owned bistro. Take a city tour from the Asheville Visitor Center just down the street, or choose from dozens of restaurants, bars, theaters, and galleries a short walk away.

You can also venture to Biltmore House, the Grove Park Inn, or the Blue Ridge Parkway, all located within a 10-minute drive. Ziplines, hiking trails, canoeing, and white-water rafting are within easy reach. But you may find Corner Cottage hard to leave!

About Marta Martin

I'm a freelance writer who spends a lot of time on the road, and my friend Marta ensures that guests have a smooth and comfortable experience. It's great to be able to share all that Asheville has to offer!

Marta Martin purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Marta Martin chose Asheville

This house reputedly was an informal jazz club decades ago, but it was a vacation rental when I first came to Asheville several years ago. I fell in love with the cottage and the community, and bought the house from the previous owner who lived nearby. Then I set about moving walls, expanding the kitchen and bathroom, and making this place as comfortable and energy efficient a home as possible. The result also shows off some of the beautiful art and objects that I'm lucky to have. I'm delighted with this place, and I hope that you will be too.

What makes this cottage unique

I've learned that you don't need a big house to feel at home. The cottage is a perfect size, and cozy without being cramped. I love its privacy; the little forest on one side and the shady deck and yard on the other side make me feel like I live in the country when I'm actually in the heart of town.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

I loved the Corner Cottage! It was perfect for my husband, myself and our dog. The house is super cute, well decorated and furnished. The private back yard and patio was perfect for morning coffee which we grabbed next door from Tod's Tastie's (along with delicious baked goods). The neighbor hood is nice and not far at all from downtown, however we did drive in order to make the most of our time. There are a couple of restaurants just up the main road within walking distance and the visitors center is one block away. I would definitely want to stay here again if we get to return to Asheville!

Comfortable place! Very convenient!

  • 4 of 5

I give this cottage a 4.5 out of 5 because every place has room for improvement. My wife and I stayed 3 nights and we couldn't have been any happier with the location. It is only a 10 minute walk to the heart of downtown Asheville and a very short drive to the Biltmore. The home has everything you need to cook your own meals and do your own laundry if necessary. It is so quiet at night and the beds so comfortable. You can't go wrong here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Corner Cottage. It was extremely comfortable and equipped for our every need. A problem with the air conditioning was attended to immediately. Excellent location next downtown and I240!

Cute, cozy, convenient and clean

  • 5 of 5

Cute, comfortable and very well apportioned. So convenient to downtown -- an easy walk to shops and restaurants. Frankly it was the nicest dog-friendly property in which we have ever stayed. And so clean! The character of the home (with pieces everywhere from the owner's world travels) made it feel like you were staying in a friend's house, not a rental.

Car: not necessary

Located in a quiet turn-of-the-century neighborhood, Corner Cottage is close to shops, cafes, restaurants, parks, theaters, and all that Asheville has to offer. Park your car and explore. Stroll down the street to take in a Shakespeare performance at an outdoor amphitheater in the summer, amble on a blustery fall day through the nearby leafy cemetery where literary greats Thomas Wolfe and O. Henry are buried, cozy up to the fireplace after a brisk winter walk, or take on the spring flood in a kayak along the French Broad river at the bottom of the hill. Let Corner Cottage be your comfortable base camp to enjoy all that is Asheville.
