  • A quaint little getaway in the NC mountains

"We rented this property to celebrate Christmas as a family, including my wife, kids, and parents. It turned out to be a great choice! The cabin is more spacious than it appears on the website. The basement has an entire bedroom, 2 bathrooms, and games and TVs, so my parents were able to treat it as a separate apartment when necessary, and my kids had fun playing pool and foosball. Upstairs, we found everything we needed. The kitchen was reasonably stocked, the fireplace worked well, and there were plenty of beds, couches, etc. There are multiple washer/dryers for laundry, an abundance of bathrooms, etc. We particularly liked the huge dining room table. We had several meals all together and also worked on several puzzles, crafts, etc. There are literally TVs in every room, so no shortage of entertainment. As for the view, I'm sure it would have been great if the weather had cooperated. It was cloudy and rainy for our entire stay, so we didn't see much of anything besides clouds. But we were certainly high enough to imagine some great skylines. One of my favorite finds was a 2-mile single-track trail that connects to the Appalachian trail. This just about 1/2 mile from the cabin. A few considerations for potential guests: Location - The cabin is at the top of a 2-mile stretch of very steep, narrow road. It ends at a VERY steep driveway up to the cabin. Having now been, I wouldn't even consider driving to this cabin in winter time without a 4-wheel drive vehicle. And in icey or snow conditions, I still might not try it. Even with good traction, the constant climbing pushed our poor loaded-down mini-van to the limit. Also, the closest grocery store is almost 30 minutes away. So consider buying groceries on the way, or plan enough time after arrival. Internet - The wifi was easy to connect to and worked well enough, but it was pretty slow and spotty compared to what most of us are used to. I wouldn't be able to work remotely from this location, for example. Don't come for the pool table - It was fun for the kids, but needs to be resurfaced, balanced, and all the queues need to be repaired. Directions - The owners provided specific directions for the last couple miles of the drive. We chose to rely on our GPS, which was a mistake. It took us on a very roundabout path through a lot of mud. Follow the directions provided :) Overall, this property wasn't perfect but exceeded my expectations."

  • Wow... Asheville Cabin!

"Wow, the Asheville Cabin is the perfect mix of a mountain getaway that is 10 minutes from downtown! My family stayed here over a long weekend and found the relaxation we were looking for and also got to experience Asheville. As we drove up to it we passed the beautiful Grove Park Inn and due to the warm weather, we noticed lots of people playing golf and just down the street we found a great walking path around Beaver Lake! We didn’t feel like going out after traveling and ordered speedy delivery from Asheville Pizza, hit the spot! The house is fully stocked, has 3 bedrooms and 3 ½ baths, plenty of room for everyone but still feels like a cozy cabin where everyone can gather together or have some time to their own in the sitting room, great room, or game room inside and coffee on the deck with only the sound of the birds saying hello was just what we needed. On Sunday, we found Saint Eugene’s Parish, less than 10 minutes away… a happy welcoming place that even treated us to a pancake breakfast! Monday we explored downtown… Doc Chey’s ramen with local trout is a must try! Mast General Store has a candy section that reminded me of the penny candy as a little girl… fireball anyone? We ended the day at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge for a Salted Caramel Liquid Truffle drink that is making my mouth water as I write this. Asheville is a funky small city that we have only started to explore; we will definitely be back and hope the Asheville Cabin is available!"
