  • Up in the trees....but a mile away from everything

"This is a great place for those that want to be downtown without being downtown. It is a world away but still close. On of our days we actually sat around and did....nothing. We talked about moving, napped and then another coffee which turned to wine and then it was a night in. Do not get me wrong as Asheville is fantastic but we did stay in and relax one night cause it felt so nice."

  • A quaint little getaway in the NC mountains

"We rented this property to celebrate Christmas as a family, including my wife, kids, and parents. It turned out to be a great choice! The cabin is more spacious than it appears on the website. The basement has an entire bedroom, 2 bathrooms, and games and TVs, so my parents were able to treat it as a separate apartment when necessary, and my kids had fun playing pool and foosball. Upstairs, we found everything we needed. The kitchen was reasonably stocked, the fireplace worked well, and there were plenty of beds, couches, etc. There are multiple washer/dryers for laundry, an abundance of bathrooms, etc. We particularly liked the huge dining room table. We had several meals all together and also worked on several puzzles, crafts, etc. There are literally TVs in every room, so no shortage of entertainment. As for the view, I'm sure it would have been great if the weather had cooperated. It was cloudy and rainy for our entire stay, so we didn't see much of anything besides clouds. But we were certainly high enough to imagine some great skylines. One of my favorite finds was a 2-mile single-track trail that connects to the Appalachian trail. This just about 1/2 mile from the cabin. A few considerations for potential guests: Location - The cabin is at the top of a 2-mile stretch of very steep, narrow road. It ends at a VERY steep driveway up to the cabin. Having now been, I wouldn't even consider driving to this cabin in winter time without a 4-wheel drive vehicle. And in icey or snow conditions, I still might not try it. Even with good traction, the constant climbing pushed our poor loaded-down mini-van to the limit. Also, the closest grocery store is almost 30 minutes away. So consider buying groceries on the way, or plan enough time after arrival. Internet - The wifi was easy to connect to and worked well enough, but it was pretty slow and spotty compared to what most of us are used to. I wouldn't be able to work remotely from this location, for example. Don't come for the pool table - It was fun for the kids, but needs to be resurfaced, balanced, and all the queues need to be repaired. Directions - The owners provided specific directions for the last couple miles of the drive. We chose to rely on our GPS, which was a mistake. It took us on a very roundabout path through a lot of mud. Follow the directions provided :) Overall, this property wasn't perfect but exceeded my expectations."

  • Home Sweet Home! shhhh, don't tell anyone! :-)

"I must say, I always regret leaving glowing reviews for places we love to visit because they always seem to add inflationary costs to our returning visits :-) With that said, it would be a disservice to Ellis if I didn't. So, without further ado... This place is everything the previous reviews spoke of and more. Ellis is as warm and welcoming as anyone could ask for. You'll have every amenity your home has and won't miss a thing while in the comfort of Peaceful Perch. Besides the comforts of this well appointed home and stylish decor, you'll get even more excited about its amazing proximity to the buzz of downtown Asheville and the views from Beaucatcher Heights... all within walking distance of Peaceful Perch. Enjoy Peaceful Perch, We did! PROS: "Ellis" A Great resource for everything Asheville and Beyond! Perfect place for Couples Cooking w/Full Kitchen Washer & Dryer Two Queen Beds (just in case you end up disagreeing one evening with your partner) HD 50" LG SMART TV (No Cable but if you have a personal account... Netflix & Amazon Prime!) Internet: 30 Mbs download 5 Mbs upload Well Designed Living Space & Decor CONS: None, other than my opinion... I forget how this home is marketed with regard to quantity of occupancy and Ellis can correct me if I'm misinforming... Two people will really enjoy this space... if you invite a third adult or have one or two non-harmful children, you will also really enjoy this space but then everything bathroom(1) related could become an issue. Hope this helps! Michael & Sheri"
