  • Perfect seclusion

"This was just what the doctor ordered - to get away from it all for a week (and definitely could've been longer). The view every morning/evening is SPECTACULAR. The mountain is quiet and beautiful. The house is spacious and remarkably well equipped (lots of linens, kitchen supplies/utensils). Only a 15min drive into Asheville - we often took a cab from the cabin into town, then take an uber/cab back, very simple (~$20 one-way for 6 people). There is SO MUCH to do in Asheville (breweries, restaurants, music EVERYWHERE). Spoke with the owner on the phone after the stay... very pleasant conversation, very warm, and accommodating. For a delicious quick bite nearby, try the burritos at the local Mexican place at the bottom of the hill (Nachos and Beer I think was the name of the place, looks like a diner). Warning: To those of you who live in "flatter" areas, the drive up is a little thrilling. Only "con" I recall - there's only one shower, but it has 2 shower heads, as a nice compensation. I would absolutely recommend a stay and I can't get back there soon enough. You owe it to yourself to be in a state of serenity like this at least once in your life."

  • Up in the mountains but close to town

"Unique house, wonderful wrap around deck right up in the treetops, with glimpses of the mountains between them. Very comfortable and large, with everything you need. Freddy was very helpful and responsive, will definitely stay again when we come back to Asheville with all its wonderful restaurants and funky shops, with the Blue Ridge Parkway close by for lovely scenic drives. • Peace and Quiet

"Cozy cottage with everything we needed, tucked into the trees in a quiet residential neighborhood. Homey decorations and a nice deck bring instant relaxation. There's even a gate (in the closet) to close off the deck so little ones (kids, canines) can stay safe. There's a designated parking spot on the cul-de-sac so our car was out of harm's way. Nice neighborhood for walking our dog and downtown is just a few minutes drive away. The mattress is new and very plush foam. SO comfy!! We'll definitely come back!! The owners are friendly but not intrusive so you have lots of privacy, and they have a sweet friendly dog. We had no problems at all. Our little dog stayed with us and enjoyed the deck (with safety gate). There was room for her play pen in the living room so we could keep her safe (bad back, can't let her jump on furniture) while we were out. one morning a squirrel stopped by to drink from a water garden on the deck and many birds sang to us from the hemlocks. There is a flight of stairs to get to the cottage on the second floor so this place wouldn't work for anyone who can't get up a flight of stairs, but is great for anyone without mobility issues."

  • Beautiful, cozy, immaculate chalet

"I will agree with the glowing reviews of Jean-Jacques' wonderful retreat. We found it to be immaculately clean (yay!!) and cozy with beautiful craftsmanship in all the finishings. I took pictures to use as inspiration for a future remodel! So nice to have towels, linens, soaps and paper goods provided. Although my husband's conference was at the Grove Park Inn where most attendees stayed, we preferred something more private with a kitchen and access to nature and this place fit the bill beautifully. It was a bonus that we could bring our pooch with us! And the bonus that I didn't anticipate was the sighting of a mama bear with 3 cubs in tow crossing a nearby road one morning while out on a walk! Tips for future visitors--be sure to find out from Jean-Jacques where to pick up the trails because it is not obvious; if you want to dine nearby I highly recommend the Copper Crown; and if you're thirsty, check out Highland Brewery, also not far away."
