About the property

1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms with view of mountains, and close to downtown Asheville

This is a newly renovated unique mountain home with beautiful private outdoor oasis! The folk architecture style designed and created by the owner is breathtaking. There are cozy, romantic areas throughout. The owner has gone to great lengths to create beauty and character in every room in the house. From the compass rose inlay to the copper trim---there are architectural surprises everywhere you look. The property includes a hot tub, fireplace with gas logs, covered porch, fire pit, gas grill, and beautiful deck with year round view of the mountains. The Escape has a full kitchen stocked with ample equipment needed to prepare gourmet meals, a separate dining room surrounded by glass, and a breakfast nook with a view of the mountains. The bedroom hosts an antique iron queen bed with luxury bedding, and large dressing room. The two full bathrooms are beautiful with granite vanities and walk-in showers. The living room has a full size couch, stress-less recliner, flat screen TV with cable package, sound system, and wireless internet. It is difficult to describe the many details and features in the amazing Escape!

The property is located just minutes away from downtown Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Grove Park Inn, and the Biltmore Estate. Also, there are many nearby outdoor adventure activities: hiking, whitewater rafting, snow and water tubing, zip lining, kayaking, horseback riding, fly fishing, mountain biking, climbing, snow skiing, and waterfall tours.

Spend the day in downtown Asheville dining, tasting our local beers, shopping or people watching.

Great day trips to nearby small towns: Waynesville, Hendersonville, Brevard, Flat Rock, Chimney Rock, Highlands, and Cashiers. Scenic routes to each, with great lunch spots. Enjoy shopping for locally made crafts in the quaint atmosphere of small mountain towns.

For guests who bring their dogs there is a neighborhood green space for fetching just 1/2 mile from the house.

About Jeff Schmitz

The owner, Jeff Schmitz, is a builder and designer. Jeff is an amazing carpenter with a passion for unique, innovative design and an incredible eye for detail. He loves nature---both at the coast and in the mountains. Jeff has poured his heart and soul into making this space an oasis for couples to enjoy. Jeff often travels to the North Carolina coast where he is renovating two historic homes. He enjoys spending time in the mountains with his family while continuing to build in this community.

Jeff Schmitz purchased this house in 1992

Why Jeff Schmitz chose Smoky Mountains

Jeff was originally drawn to Asheville from the west coast by the relaxed lifestyle and ample access to beautiful mountains and rushing waters. He fell in love with this house and this part of Asheville 22 years ago. Since then, he has worked to renovate the space into a mountain dream house. It is both private and close to town---the best of both worlds. This is such a wonderful place and he wanted to share it with others as they traveled to the mountains of Western North Carolina. We all work so hard these days and forget how important it is to nurture ourselves and our relationships. This is an amazing, private romantic place that is appealing to adults of all ages.

What makes this house unique

This house had so much hidden potential when he purchased it many years ago. It was a diamond in the rough. The property has private lay out for being this convenient to town. It's character stood out above all others.

This cottage is the best of both worlds-close to town and private! Located in Buncombe County and just outside the city limits, only 4 miles from downtown Asheville, the Escape is located in a wooded setting. Hiking trails are abundant only minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our favorite restaurants are the Admiral and Curate', you must make reservations early though. Other great places to dine in downtown Asheville include Limones, Salsa, Zombra, Tupelo Honey and Mela.

A second wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

The house did not disappoint a second time. It is well appointed with everything you could need. The yard is perfect for fur babies and their owners alike. Close enough to town to allow trips to whatever you would like to see but, also pushed back if you would just like to enjoy the quiet. A perfect spot for either a long week long or short weekend stay. Highly recommend.

Awesome rental for a couple and super dog friendly!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this rental and hope to return again! Thank you for providing a nice, clean, comfortable, and dog friendly house for us to enjoy our baby-moon and anniversary trip at. We truly enjoyed the privacy, fenced in yard, and quick easy 10 minute drive to downtown Asheville. Truly a great vrbo!

Perfect home in the foothills!

  • 5 of 5

This home and property was stunning. The home had everything you could need in a home away from home. We enjoyed the views and the spacious yard for our dogs. We enjoyed all the outdoor adventure Asheville has to offer. It was a short uber ride to downtown to enjoy great food, craft beer, culture and shopping. The Biltmore Estates is just a 15 minute drive away. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just up the road. We enjoyed coming "home" and having a fire and relaxing in the hot tub at the end of the night, robes provided was a thoughtful touch. Thank you for an incredible trip. We will definitely be back!

Great for vacation with pooch

  • 5 of 5

Reservation process was easy from reserving, check-in, and check out. If you follow owner's direction you will have no problem on all fronts. Great location, close to stores, restaurants, and activities. The property felt secluded, and we enjoyed both porches. The kitchen seems to have everything you would need although we enjoyed the local restaurants. The house contained a lot of details. We could tell how much the owners care for the property. TV and internet worked perfectly. The dog loved having a fenced area to check out. We appreciate knowing that he is safe in the fenced yard. The house was perfect for us, and we look forward to returning. Wonderful home in beautiful Asheville.

Fantastic week away!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and our two dogs stayed here for a week. We loved every single minute of it! The place is even bigger and nicer then the photos let on! Our dogs loved the yard! The kitchen is fantastic and well stocked with just about anything you would need. There were a few things we brought with us that we didn't need to have with us after all. Nice close drive to downtown Asheville and not far from the blue ridge parkway. I loved having two bathrooms! Made getting ready to go out on the town much easier for the two of us. We slept very well on the comfy bed... Made me realize it is time to replace our mattress at home. The fireplace was fantastic on the chilly mountain nights! The hot tub was great to soak our sore muscles after horse back riding, a day of walking around Asheville or hiking with the dogs. My only complaint was that the chlorine content in the hot tub seemed very high to me but I am also very sensitive to chlorine so maybe take that with a grain of salt. We rode out Irma in the house and other then a few power surges no issues whatsoever. I like that there were plenty of fire estiguishers and power outage lights incase there was a problem. The gate made everything super convenient with the dogs. We all loved the trip so much! My 3rd time in Asheville, my first time here and I will definitely want to stay here the next time we come to town. Since our dream is to one day move to the Asheville area my boyfriend and I even joked if the owner wouldn't mind if we just moved right in here. We really can not say enough about how wonderful our time was here! Highly recommend!
