About the property

Lost Barrio's La Casa Verde ~ charming bungalow in the heart of Tucson

Location! Location! Location!

Welcome to La Casa Verde, ideally located in the Lost Barrio; a small, colorful shopping district tucked away in a neighborhood a few blocks south of the University of Arizona. Surrounded by many of Tucson's historic neighborhoods; Armory Park, Iron Horse, Pie Allen, Barrio San Antonio and Sam Hughes, the artisans of Tucson discovered the Lost Barrio. It is here where you will find your perfect getaway home in the heart of Tucson.

La Casa Verde is a charming historic two bedroom one bath 1920’s bungalow home within walking distance to downtown, Tucson’s vibrant nightlife, 4th Avenue’s eclectic shops and restaurants, and the University of Arizona; “Go ‘Cats!”. The space is bright and has been lovingly decorated to reflect the uniqueness of the house and the neighborhood. Wood and brick floors are softened by warm colors that create a soothing and comfortable atmosphere.

This fully outfitted historic home has a complete kitchen with a gas stove/oven, granite counter top, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, full size refrigerator, cooking and eating utensils, basic cooking spices/ingredients, dishes, pots/pans, wine glasses and cocktail glasses. Enjoy a meal inside at the antique dining table that seats four or use the bbq grill and enjoy the front patio. The front patio is also great to enjoy your morning coffee or an evening cocktail while watching the beautiful Arizona sunrise and sunsets.

The master bedroom sleeps two comfortably on a queen bed with soft linens. The second bedroom has a sleeper sofa, a cool old desk and vintage lockers to store your belongings. The second room can accommodate one to two (small) sleepers on the sleeper sofa that has a memory foam topper when used as a bed. The home’s bathroom features a newly tiled shower/bathtub and soft towels.

Relax, read or watch TV on the leather couch and rocking chair, or just play some games, in the living room. The property has a washer/dryer, central A/C and heat, free WiFi, and Netflix video streaming. There is a full size bike and child’s bike available for use.

Tucson is known for its paved bike paths, two of which converge in the Lost Barrio just blocks away from Casa Verde. The Arroyo Chico bike path is found within 40 meters from your front gate. It circles the Arroyo Chico and takes you to the Kino Sports Complex. Your second bike path at the end of Park Street is the Aviation Parkway bike path. It takes the biker, walker, or jogger from downtown Tucson all the way out to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

From the house, walk to downtown Tucson’s music venues, museums, film, theater and downtown Tucson’s new restaurant row; home to numerous winners of the Best of Tucson to the newest, hippest downtown eateries, micro-breweries and bars. Take the trolley to eclectic 4th Avenue with its many restaurants, coffee shops, bars and unique shops. The University of Arizona and University Avenue shops restaurants are also just blocks away. La Casa Verde’s central location makes it very easy to access just about any of Tucson’s hot spots in a matter of minutes.

A short drive will get you to even more museums, parks, botanical gardens, public swimming pool, tennis courts, golf courses, horseback riding, rock climbing or hiking through the picturesque Sonoran Desert. A few of those points of interests are the Arizona State Museum, Reid Park that's home to the Tucson Zoo and public golf course, Puma Air&Space Museum, Mission San Xavier, Sabino Canyon, Ventana Canyon, the Saguaro National Park and world famous Arizona Sonora Desert Museum where you can find over 200 animals and over 1,200 different plants that all are found in the Sonora Desert.

Life is good in the Desert

Charming vintage house, walking distance from downtown

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my stay at La Casa Verde. It is a small house, but I liked the vintage/authentic Tucson feel with modern functionality, especially the redone kitchen and bath, and handy washer/dryer. Downtown and 4th street are about a mile walk away, and there's a nice walk around Arroyo Chico just a half block away. You will hear trains, and to a lesser extent the jets from the military base; some sort of white noise helps for sleeping. The pictures above don't show the fenced backyard (which was nice when travelling with a dog); also the cafe pictured above has closed, but the Welcome Diner has opened just around the corner. Oh, and skip nearby Del Taco for the Taco Shop just down Broadway.

Excellent location for U of A visits

  • 4 of 5

Simple, well kept home for our stay in Tucson. Not lavish, but met all of our needs for an extended weekend while visiting U of A. We had 3 people using the home, which is perfect for the size of home. Kitchen had most items we needed for our limited stay. The manager, Kimber, was fantastic to work with and provided detailed move in and move out instructions. She also was very accommodating when I asked to add an extra day onto the front end of our visit. I will certainly use this home again!

Better the second time around...

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at La Casa Verde and it was like coming home again. We came back for all the previously mentioned benefits as described in the reviews of the previous guests but what was so special returning to our favorite locations such as Frog & Firing, Barrio Brewery, Pueblo Vida, Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, 5 Point Market.

We enjoy getting up every morning and taking our walk around the Arroyo Chico bike path which is just at the end of our street. The weather has been wetter and a little cooler this year than last BUT still 20 degrees warmer than Oregon.

We are planning on adding our newest discovery for one of the best Happy Hours in Tucson. It's called Union Public House at N. CAMPBELL AND RIVER. Being centrally located in Tucson, it's never much of a drive or walk to reach most places.

We also enjoy a new Tap House that opened on the East side of Tucson. It's called the Arizona Beer House. It was just opened by a friend that I met just last year, very exciting for him.

Lots to do, comfortable, well equipped house that's centrally located in Tucson.

Looking forward to our next visit.

Tucson Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Great Tucson getaway! The house and area was everything we had hoped for while visiting Tucson. We loved being able to walk to the University of Arizona, Downtown and a wonderful walking/bike path just steps from the house! Kimber has supplied everything a family would need in this home away from home. The cleanliness and organization of the house was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already made reservations to come back next year.

Home away from home - highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

Don't let the street fool you. You may feel like you are off the beaten path when you pull up in front of the home but believe me, everything is walking distance and the home is perfect. It is well equipped and comfortable. My son loved running around the place and we loved how clean it was. We were able to walk everywhere and this is with a 1 1/2 year old boy. Not only is the home stocked with the essentials (plus more!) but there are great tidbits on what to do in the area, where to eat, shop and relax. If I am in Tucson I hope this home is available because we look forward to staying here again. One thing to note - the bedroom off the living room has a pass-through. It is easily covered by opening the closet door to cover it but if you need two bedrooms the second one isn't as private.
