The Bunkhouse Lodge Is A Luxurious Retreat In The Wichita Mountains

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,300 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 10

The Bunkhouse Lodge is a luxurious retreat for couples and families alike. With its eclectic mix of all things 'cowboy', this lodge is like no other accommodations in Medicine Park! From the ample wrap-around veranda you can see Mt. Scott rising nearly 2,500 ft off the prairie floor. The drive to the top of this piece of granite is one of the best scenic views in all of Oklahoma.

Behind Mt. Scott, you will find America's first wildlife preserve named the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Bicycles, kayaks, motorcycles, and hiking await your discovery on sixty-four thousand acres. You are sure to be impressed with the scenic vistas and historic sites. There are rock formations larger than a small city in this place. You could start the day with a fly rod and a largemouth bass, hike to a natural bridge by noon and end the day with a steak at the Old Plantation restaurant in Medicine Park. If you like watersports we have the famed, granite bottom, blue water Lake Lawtonka, just at the foot of the mountains. You would have to drive eight hours west to see anything like this.

The Bunkhouse was located on an unnamed road, but not anymore. It is now on 'Bunkhouse Road' with an official Comanche County street sign as verification. Just behind us are three blue-eyed Gypsy Vanner horses that make their him on two adjacent pastures of the Windsong Ranch and directly behind them are a herd of alpaca.

Eclectic would describe this lodging but it reflects the multi facets of Southwest Oklahoma on a year round basis. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

Military Families: We are a short drive from Ft. Sill.

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed your beautiful, very spacious cabin! It felt like it was a home away from home! Loved the cleanliness and space of the interior as well as the outdoor space. The kitchen had everything we needed and the outdoor amenities were very well equipped. The kids loved making smores on the fire pit and the adults loved the wrap around porch with the sound system. The view was absolutely spectacular! Loved the mountains in front of us and the horses behind us. Would of loved our fur babies to had joined us : ( Thank you for the great memories we take with us!

Beautiful setting, feels like a home, warm and welcoming.

  • 5 of 5

We were a collective, diverse group from age 18 to 62, from grandparents, parents, girlfriend, best friend who came together to celebrate our soldier beginning his military career. The Bunkhouse is a beautiful, warm home that all enjoyed. Everything was provided that enabled us to prepare his favorite meals, play games and have meaningful discussions. We loved all of the decorative touches, the furnishings, all of it, really. It rained, I mean hard rain, an entire day and we felt safe and cozy. No one wanted to leave and all want to plan to return someday. The horses are beautiful and friendly. Every view from all of the windows is pastoral.

If anyone has a loved one who goes to Ft. Sill for boot camp, plan to stay at the Bunkhouse.

And it is perfect for a vacation as the Wichita Mountains are minutes away, stunning views. You can fish, hike, kayak or just sit on the deck, which is amazing.

Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful haven.

Home on the range

It was a great place to relax and watch sunsets. The best part is the porch and landscaping. Both built out exquisitely. Surrounded by horse farms was a great plus, kids loved it.

Bunkhouse - Peaceful, Close to Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge

  • 5 of 5

We had a relaxing and peaceful stay at the Bunkhouse. There was plenty of room for our group of four adults and a toddler. We spent the days hiking in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge which far exceeded our expectations - so much to do and see! Elk Mountain was our favorite hike. Buffalo and longhorns can be seen up-close and we saw many babies. The refuge Visitor Center is also worthwhile - excellent exhibits. After our hikes, we'd head back to the Bunkhouse and cook together. The kitchen is well-stocked with plenty of room for us all to participate in meal preparation. We'll be back!
