Great Roanoke area stay!
The cabin was recently renovated, and was clean and inviting. The touchscreen entry is GENIUS and I wish every rental had that! The furniture is comfortable and the kitchen has the essentials. Theresa left bottled water for us in the fridge, which was nice as we arrived on Thanksgiving and most of the stores were closed. The location is PERFECT. The back porch is steps from Craig Creek, a big picturesque creek, and the dog greatly appreciated the large fenced dog run. We were in the area to visit family so we didn’t end up spending a ton of time at the cabin, but I’m already thinking about when we can return in warmer weather to enjoy the creek and the fire pit.
Perfect place for an autumn get-away with friends
This "cabin" was a wonderful experience. Myself and six of my close friends stayed in Teresa's home over Veterans Days weekend. We were very comfortable. Fire pit, screened-in porch, beautfiul view of the creek, gas fireplace. Everything you could need for a chilly weekend.
The location is great! You're about a 30 minute drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway (we hiked Sharp Top Mountain trail, highly recommended). It is also 12 minutes from Roaring Run Furnance, an easier hike with waterfall views.
We drove about 40 minutes to Roanoake. Hit a few breweries (notables: Ballast Point and Deschutes) as well as wineries that were less than 20 minutes away.
Terera informed us to bring bottle drinking water. The house does have running water, but it has a sulfer smell to it. Perfectly fine for showers, but make sure to bring drinking water!
I would highly reccomend this place to anyone looking for a weekend adventure with glamping asperations!
Beautiful property, wonderful time, one caveat
Our group had a wonderful time staying at this property. The home is nice and cozy and we enjoyed hanging out on the deck listening to the stream as well. The beds are nice and cozy and all the linens and dishes were clean and helpful to have. The property is large and we had a good time playing in the yard and tossing rocks in the stream. One person in our party happened to see that Roaring Run Falls was down the road and WOW - it was beautiful. We walked all the trails and all the way up to the top waterfall and that was incredible. I highly recommend this property and we will likely return.
The only problem with this place is the water. It absolutely reeks of sulfur (rotten eggs). Teresa gave me a heads up after booking the property that we should bring bottled water to drink, and thankfully we brought enough. We're a crowd that's easy going so it wasn't too bad but I can certainly see some being bothered by it. The smell doesn't linger in a room (or your body or hands after washing!) but you absolutely smell it any time the water is running. I think all potential renters deserve to know that. Hopefully it's a temporary problem that will be fixed soon.
That said, we still had a wonderful time. So thankful to Teresa for opening up their place for us!
Private and centrally located
Cabin was adequately furnished and with a great view of the creek. Located close to several of the points of interests we were in town for. Teresa was very accommodating on such short notice, we will definitely be back!
Property was as advertised. Freezer was less than clean but otherwise the house fit our needs. The screened in porch was the highlight as the mosquitoes were out in full force. It also rained a considerable amount but we were still able to enjoy the outdoors.
The TV offerings were limited to Netflix but that was sufficient. Would suggest an upgrade to a larger flat screen as it seem lost on the wall and is dwarfed by the size of the room.
Would definitely recommend this rental.
Could of been cleaner. Dust bunnies on floor not dusted bugs on window stills
Enjoy your own beautiful, private creek front retreat on Pristine Craig Creek . Fish from the property or very short float to Public put in at the horseshoe bend area on the Upper James River Trail.
