Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Lakefront Log Cabin with Character and tastefully decorated

If you are looking for a true 'Adirondack Camp' experience, look no further!

First, about the Cabin. Sitting on the shore of Forest Lake (a private association lake with no motor boats allowed), the cabin was built in the 1940's as a rental for one of the many Dude Ranches that were active around the Lake George/Lake Luzerne area. A Charming cabin that has been completely restored to provide all the modern amenities that one would expect today. There are three bedrooms upstairs with a full bath, downstairs you will find a spacious living room with original stone fireplace (gas logs installed) a dining room that seats 6, a large kitchen boasting a gas range/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and a full selection of cookware, dinnerware and utensils. There is a full bath (with shower) downstairs that also hosts a full size washer/dryer for your convenience.

Also, lakeside, is a quite place you can curl up with a good book. Walk out the backdoor onto a large covered porch overlooking the lake. Sit quietly and you will probably see the bald eagles that live on the lake, lots of ducks and geese, and occasionally the family of otters that make their home across the lake. Attached to the covered porch is an open deck to grab a few rays or fire up the grill. Step off the porch and it is steps to the lake. There is a dock for sunning and a nice sloped area for swimming. We have a canoe and a row boat at the property for your use! You can spend your entire visit relaxing at the cabin but if you want to explore the area, there is plenty to do. There are several river rafting outfitters just down the road as well as The Painted Pony Rodeo. Horseback outfitters, snowmobile outfitters and hiking trails are all nearby. The Longhorn Pub is just down the road for a hamburger or a drink, a locals place that is good and fun or try the Upriver Cafe in Lake Luzerne with a fantastic view of the Hudson. If you wish to explore a bit further and need some additional shopping or dining, just a few miles brings you to the Lake George area where putt-putt, amusement parks, restaurants, outlet malls and shops will keep you busy. For real nostalgia, take in a double feature at the Drive in Movie! Lake George offers more boating and fishing opportunities. During the winter try the Tubby Tubes (summers are fun too!) near the cabin or drive to Gore Mountain for a day of skiing.

We are minutes to the Northway (I87) and it will quickly take you south to Saratoga Springs and Albany, north to the upper Adirondack region with Lake Placid and the Lakes (even Montreal is just a couple of hours away), and East to Vermont.

Rates: Please see current rates under the rates tab. Summer is a 7 day rental with turnover on Saturday. We have a 3 night minimum the rest of the year. Also, we limit our cabin to 6 guests. We cannot accept pets due to an allergy issue.

Posted rates do not include the $95.00 cleaning fee nor does it include the fees charged to you by VRBO. Their is a $500.00 security deposit that will be charged at booking that will be refunded to you promptly upon inspection after you leave. To get a clear picture of costs, click on "get an instant quote" under the Request to Book button.

Also, we have a strict refund policy, please review it.

Upon your request to book, we like to visit by telephone with a prospective guest prior to booking so that we can all get to know each other a bit better and feel comfortable with our relationship.

We love our cabin and think you will too. We are very proactive owners and are always available to answer any questions or satisfy your needs. Just call or email if you have any questions.

Thanks for your interest in our cabin!

About Fred Asmussen

We are Pam and Fred Asmussen, we live in Texas and purchased the home last year. Two of our children live in the Northeast and we purchased the house to be able to spend more time with them. We have fallen in love with upstate New York and the Adirondack region is our little slice of heaven. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Fred Asmussen purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Fred Asmussen chose Adirondack Mountains

When you close your eyes and try to imagine your idea of a lakefront camp in the Adirondack's this property is most likely what you will see. Our cabin was originally built in the 1940's as part of the Northwoods Dude Ranch, an 800 acre site with 2 lakes. A lot a history in the area.A true hand cut log home, nestled among the pines overlooking a beautiful lake. Original pine floors, exposed logs, and a handlaid stone fireplace gives the house its charm. With a well done addition to the house and lots of work, the house was remodeled to provide a modern kitchen and nice bathrooms. We have decorated the house to keep the charm of a log home but included many of our personal pieces, furniture and rugs to give the house a bit of elegance as well.

What makes this cabin unique

What makes this house special?

Standing on the porch watching the wildlife?

Testing the water with your toes in early summer to see if you are brave enough for a plunge?

Pushing the canoe into the lake to enjoy a different view of the beauty of the area, the quite and the solitude?

Family and friends gathering in the kitchen, all talking, laughing and cooking?

Backing up to the fireplace on a frosty morning with a cup of coffee?

Curling up in a chair on the deck with a good book?

You decide...

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Homeaway.com description of 14 Vista didn't disappoint in the least. As a matter of fact, we don't think any description or pictures can do it justice. Each and every detail (of so many) was a new discovery. We would joke about how we would find something new and unique in the cabin that we didn't notice the day before. What's more, the home is kept immaculate and fresh. Our dinner guests were also amazed at the furnishings and fixtures. Literally antiques. You are clearly trusting people. We thank you for trusting this little slice of heaven to us for our stay. The ski conditions weren't the best, but we knew coming "home" to the cabin would make up for it. Hopefully in the future we will have the opportunity to visit again.

Left my heart there!

  • 5 of 5

I have had a life long dream to stay in a snow covered log cabin in the woods on a lake. Two weeks ago, my dream came true. Everything about the cabin was exactly how I would have pictured it to be. The tranquility, scenery and atmosphere made our long weekend perfect. When we arrived, there was a light snow fall which just added to the beauty of the cabin and the lake. Every morning we woke up to snow falling. We even went out on the deck with our coffee to enjoy the scenery. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet get away from it all place to go...this is it. I absolutely fell in love with this cabin. I left my heart there!! I have already started to plan the next stay there.

A beautiful log cabin in a breathtaking setting!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our time at the log cabin! The house is beautiful, perfectly clean, and stocked with everything a family could want and more. My young daughters had a blast splashing in the water. The gradual beach entry to the quiet lake made it easy for them to play and swim! We also loved canoeing around the lake, watching turtles, and fishing. We enjoyed most of our meals outside on the lovely porch overlooking the lake. Thank you for sharing your special cabin with us. We will look forward to staying again!

Exceptional !

  • 5 of 5

This is a special home in a wonderful location on a lovely lake where you can swim, canoe, and just sit and watch the day go by....everything is great about this home, all the amenities (beds, linens, kitchen etc) but most of all the covered porch which looks out to the lake...a couch, Adirondak chairs, and a large dining room table on the porch where we had all our meals. If you choose to explore the area, hike, go to the rodeo etc....great, but we spent most of our time outside on the porch. The fire pit is great too! Would definitely recommend to all. p.s. the owner, Fred was a pleasure to deal with, always communicative!

Owner's Response: Thanks Linda, Pam and I feel the same way. There is so much to do in the area yet we have a hard time leaving the cabin. With all our plans we often end up with a book and some soft jazz and spend the afternoon on the porch! We would love to have you back sometime.

Beautiful and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

We had the most restful time fishing and swimming in the lake. We loved watching the ducks swim up and down the lake everyday and especially enjoyed the fire pit during the evening. Such a beautiful cabin!

Beautiful cabin in a peaceful wooded setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this place and plan to return next year. It's private, quiet and serene, with an authentic Adirondack feel. Close enough to town to have a nice dinner out, but secluded enough for a woodsy feel, this cabin is located on a small, no-motor lake right off Route 9N. The setting is a beautiful, shady lakeside spot with views of nature including the occasional bald eagle. Hiking trails nearby if you are so inclined (I did and enjoyed it). The log cabin itself is wonderfully and tastefully decorated in Adirondack style, but the porch is the real star. We spent much of our time there, looking at the lake and relaxing. Great break from a stressful life.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words Joe. Glad you got to see the eagle. There is a pair that nest regularly on the lake. It is also fun to watch the ducks and geese and the reclusive but playful otter family that can be seen on occasion, usually early mornings. Glad you had a good time and we look forward to hosting you again next year.

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This log home was perfection! Truly an amazing home. From the moment we walked in and saw directly to the back lake we were in awe. The back porch is definitely the highlight and we spent almost 90 percent of our awake time out there reading, playing games, eating meals, etc. and enjoying the breathtaking views! The other highlightfor our three boys was the hammock and lake swimming/canoing. The loved it so much! The entire home, however, is first class but cozy at the same time. Could not have asked for a better family vacation. Sincerely! Also the owners were great to work with and accessible and very quick with the refunding of the deposit as well. A five star experience all around! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
