Maui Sands is a direct oceanfront property facing the islands of Lanai and Molokai. While Unit 1J is tucked back for privacy (offering a "peek-a-boo" view of the blue water through the palms), the ocean's edge is just a one-minute stroll past the pool.

The Famous Beach Walk

We are located at the very end of North Ka’anapali Beach. This is the last property where you can walk directly onto the sand to reach Duke’s Restaurant, Black Rock, and Whaler’s Village.

Note: The sand on Maui is "seasonal" and moves with the currents. If the tide is high, a quick 1-minute walk to the park next door (Paki Maui) provides a large, sandy beach area all year round.

The stay

The description didn’t say it was right on a road and that is the side the bedrooms were on. It was not too loud but could be heard. It did not bother our sleep

Condo is in a great location

Clean and well-equipt condo. Good value for the money. Easy parking and great location. The tides were really high and strong and not much room on the beach for laying out. Very noisy on the road at night. The noise-canceling machines helped, but could still hear cars/trucks racing by.

Good location, lovely property

Condo is updated, with new bathroom remodels and new appliances. Includes adequate dishes, pots and pans for basic cooking. No water toys or beach chairs come with this unit, few left-over cooking ingredients, so bring your own or rent them. This unit’s bedrooms face the road, and owner has considerately provided white noise machines if needed. Property is pretty and well cared for, with a nice pool. Not particularly little kid friendly though — pool has no steps or shallow part for little ones; beach is a narrow strip of sand and rocks that is a HUGE step down from property and there is not room to set up beach chairs — water often right up to steps. BUT the water is crystal clear and there is good snorkeling between the two reefs right out front.

Very Comfortable!

Big mahalo goes out to Hawaii for the lovely stay! What went right: very nice/kind property manager, beautiful ocean access, walking distance to park, bigger beach area (Honopiilani Beach), grocery store, moped rental, amazing cinnamon rolls, laundry room in complex, coffee shop. We had a great unit! We overheard other vacationers comment that they didn’t have good A/C and were too hot/miserable. Not so with us. We used the A/C sparingly customized by room and were VERY comfortable sleeping. Bathrooms, beds, kitchen, lanai - all perfect! What could be improved: maybe small shampoo/ conditioner? It’s a average rating for lux—- no “extras” that make you feel spoiled. The snorkeling near the unit was not good- but we visited just after a storm and the waves were pretty energetic even after the murk settled. So that’s could have just been our luck of the draw. We would recommend this lovely place for the family who is more interested in quality family time more than a “spoiled spa” experience.

Value for the money!

Amazing location. Close to ABC stores. 2 minutes walk to the ocean. Amazing sunsets and great for morning walks alongside the ocean. It was connected to other condo/resort backyard beaches and was easy to meet friends there. Nice swimming pool which was never crowded.There was a mini book library too. Hardly 2 or 3 people at any point of time. The condo was very spacious. Very good cross ventilation the entire time. Whole place was cool and airy the whole stay. Even in the nights, we had the patio door open which made it very comfortable. The noise from the road was a bit more than what we expected but we got used to it. Very thoughtful of the host to provide white noise machines in the bedrooms. We wished the washer/dryer was inside our rooms but it was still fine to operate the common area washer/dryer using the Mobile App(instead of looking for Quarters). We had to go buy washer tablets from the nearby ABC store for this though. The Maui food bank in the opposite complex was useful to donate the leftover excess grocery that was unopened.

We stayed here in March 2015. if you book this Condo, be aware the OVEN and ICE MACHINE are NOT working. There's a small counter top oven. If you plan on eating out, this won't be problem. But cooking for 5 people was difficult. The oven in the unit has not been working for more than 10 months--so the owners aren't rushing to get this fixed. Also, both bedrooms back up to a busy street. If you live in a big city, you'll probably be able to sleep through the morning noise. Since my family lives in a quiet small town, we had trouble sleeping past 6am. This is NOT a relaxing condo. None of the above issues were disclosed. If we knew prior to booking this condo, we would have stayed somewhere else! In addition, the condo description states a "peak-a-boo" look at the ocean. Due to tree growth, you will not see the ocean from the lanai. The condo faces the pool and has a lovely few of the gardens. The bedroom TV's are old and very small. Wasn't a problem for us, since we don't watch much TV. The condo has been remodeled and was very clean. Average pool. Not able to swim/snorkel at the water front of the property. Too many rocks. Stayed March 2015. Would NOT recommend this unit.

Lovely Spacious Condo

Maui Sands 1J was a great condo for our vacation needs. It was clean, the beds and pillows were comfortable, the A/C worked great, and it was located close to all our activities. Our first night after traveling all day, we walked to nearby food trucks to eat. Very convenient since we were pretty tired. Kory, the owner, was very responsive to our questions and came out within the hour to assist with my concern. Turned out it was my error. He also brought us extra toilet paper, so we never had to shop for any. The tide was up the whole week, but there were plenty of sandy beaches nearby. So no problem! You could still use the beach and sit on the grassy area by the entrance. I would recommend this condo to anyone and would stay here again if I came back to Maui!

Great property and location!

This condo was perfect for our Maui stay and we will definitely return. The ocean access was phenomenal and loved the grill access. One thing to note is that the condo faces the street, which can get loud very early in the morning. People walking past not only make a lot of noise (the sound seems to carry) but will also shake the room a bit. We were there to explore so getting up early wasn't really a problem, but it can be jarring.

Very Pleased

We would definitely stay again. Place is as described. Conveniently located next to the ABC store. Easy check in and check out. We had a party of five and never felt to cramped. The only bummer is no real beach access but the park is close by so we could just walk over.

Comfortable and clean

Condo interior was older than anticipated and could use some loving care (coat of paint would help.) We did enjoy our stay and overall a peaceful, pleasant 3 nights. Pool code was changed and on site manager should notify property managers. Area was fine but no place to take a walk. Ocean water high on retainer wall. (Literature does state tides csn be high but judging by the area beach walk seems very rare to non-existent.

Maui Vacation 2022

The property was well kept and comfortable. We really enjoyed the pool and the grounds. The shower head broke while we were there but the property manager was very responsive and fixed it quickly. The only downfall is that they were doing construction in the unit directly below us for three of the days we were there. That was hard as we would come back to rest after being at the beach and there was a lot of banging going on. I'm not entirely sure the neighborhood is safe as we were followed back to property by two rough looking individuals (one who was wearing a hoodie and the other got out and lit a cigarette while observing us). We did not exit the vehicle but left and they proceeded to leave right after we left. I'm not sure what their intentions were but our spidey senses were definitely going off. I would say that just like anywhere be aware of your surroundings. All in all it was beautiful and we enjoyed it immensely.

Great location. Nice complex. No real beach access when we were there but short walk took you to beach. Lock box is a little difficult to open if you have nails. Air conditioning is a little challenging to figure out. Great breeze/airflow through the home. Good selection of kitchen wares. Lovely patio with plenty of seating.

Great location, a bit noisy

The location here was great for exploring the west coast of Maui. The beach area directly at this property is mostly good for snorkeling. The condo itself was nice and as expected, the pool was warm every day, and the view and proximity to beach were great. The road noise was somewhat of an issue but the white noise machines did help. The other noisy part was the downstairs neighbor doing renovations the week we stayed, this also caused lots of dust on the lanai. Overall this was a great place to stay, would definitely recommend if you don’t want to pay the cost of a resort.

Awesome place

Nice place to spend our family vacation at. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The pool area was great and we used the BBQ grill to cook with no trouble. The best part was how close the beach was to walk down to. We snorkled and always saw fish. Highly recommend.

Another great stay

This was our second trip staying in this condo, 6th stay at Maui Sands. We love the 2 bedroom/2 bath layout. We especially liked that the second bedroom was converted to another queen bed. Perfect for 2 couples. The split A/C unit is great at night.

Basic lodging in a great area

Pros: short walk to grocery store (Times), places to eat, and beaches. Wonderful lanai for relaxing, comfortable beds, good Wi-Fi. Cons: Needs minor maintenance (cabinets in kitchen, master toilet runs, bathroom shower hard to turn off). Furniture needs updated to be comfortable, kitchen isn’t well stocked (bare utensils, no pizza cutter, bring your own tinfoil and plastic wrap, 1 kitchen towel). Our 2 families of adults and 1 infant had plenty of space and enjoyed our visit. We would stay here again, but know to bring or rent beach chairs, all ocean gear, and stop at Costco for kitchen and food first.

Not beach front, carpet could use a little TLC

Property is beachfront but the actual unit is not. When we went it was high tide so we had to walk far to get to the actual beach. Again, the carpet could use a little updating but otherwise everything was a-ok. Thanks, we had a wonderful time.

Why they chose this property

We stayed here on vacation 10 years ago and fell in love with the neighbors and how quiet the property was directly on the ocean. Every night we go down to the ocean deck and meet other owner and renters and sip on our cocktail. It's old school Hawaii where the plants on the property are now trees! You'll love the interior of this property! Very spread out and spacious units. Like how it used to be in Hawaii

What makes this property unique

Snorkeling right in front of our property! Many days we don't even leave the property. My husbands snorkels for a few hours and ill read and watch. Then I'll lounge at the pool while he chit chats with everyone around the pool area. We also love the central location. If we want to go to dinner in Lahaina and walk around, it's only 5-10 minutes away. If we want to enjoy the best beach in the entire world...we drive 2 minutes to Kaanapali Beach. If we want to swim with dolphins we head up 5 minutes north to Kapalua Bay.
