About the property

Newly Built Suite In A Beautiful "Lighthouse" Building Near Lake Superior

The North Shore Lighthouse Suites are completely finished and now have new saunas. The building was a model of a lighthouse in Copper Harbor Michigan. Prior to our purchase of the property, in the fall of 2014, the building served as a quaint nautical themed restaurant.

♦ ♦ Check out our new video! Click on the video tab above ♦ ♦

♦ ♦ We now have an outdoor sauna....one for each suite. See the pictures ♦ ♦

It has now become two very spacious living quarters with all the comforts of home and more. Each unit has been named after two infamous Lake Superior Ships, the Fitzgerald and the Anderson. Each suite offers large master bedrooms with spacious bathrooms, including whirlpool tubs. The additional bedroom is also spacious and comfortable. The open floor plan for the kitchen and living room make it perfect for your group to unwind after a long day exploring the North Shore. Along with the cozy gas fireplaces, you will find your own large private patio. Equipped with furniture and gas grill. You will also find massive fire pits that will seat everyone in your group. No need to bring firewood, that is supplied free of charge. Need to do laundry? No problem, we have a washer and dryer conveniently located in each suite.

We can supply you maps of beautiful hiking trails with hidden waterfalls when you book with us. We are working on other "perks" as well.

For our winter guests there is the Korkki Nordic Ski trail a few miles from our suites and also a state snowmobile trail

Big groups or families can rent out both suites to accommodate up to 12 people!

About Kathy Kunst

We are business owners in Duluth MN. Every year we take our kids on a family vacation and rent through VRBO. It was a perfect fit for us because we didn't like being crammed in a small hotel room with 5 kids or the expense of getting 2 hotel rooms. We always talked about opening up a vacation rental and when the old Lighthouse Restaurant was for sale we knew exactly what we wanted to do with it!

Kathy Kunst purchased this house in 2014

Why Kathy Kunst chose Northeast

The lighthouse suites are located between Duluth and Two Harbors, 150 yards from the shores of Lake Superior. This unique building was built in 2007 as a quaint nautical themed restaurant. When the business closed it's doors we were were able to purchase it with one thing in mind, to create one of the most unique and incredible places to stay on the North Shore.

What makes this house unique

We were able to take the wide open space of the building and sculpt it into 2 spacious suites. This allow us to rent them separately or together for large groups or families.

Our guests love the fact they can have lots of room to gather and relax in stead of hanging out in a hotel room.

The North Shore scenic railroad runs near the suites. The tracks are used for entertainment only

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here this past weekend and didn't want to leave! The living room is spacious with wood floors and gas fireplace. The kitchen was almost as big as our kitchen at home and is stocked with everything you might need from pots and pans to coffee and filters. We even found band-aids thank goodness because of course, one of our daughters needed one and we had not thought to bring any with us. The bedrooms are wide, open and both have king-sized beds. There are two bathrooms-the master bath has a whirlpool tub plus a separate shower. There is a pull-out couch in the living room. There is a fire pit and firewood in the private backyard which we used both nights to make S'mores. There is a gas grill and sauna as well. The owners left us a notebook which included maps of how to get to the lake which is probably a 10 minute? walk away plus a map to a waterfall which is a 20 minute walk away-unfortunately we didn't have time to go see it. They also left a list of restaurants nearby including a place in Two Harbors which delivers pizzas. We highly recommend this place to others.

Relaxing and convenient

  • 5 of 5

4 friends stayed here for a girls weekend. It was easy to find. We liked that it had a "woodsy" feel but was still a short drive to dining, shopping, etc. The accommodations were excellent. The place was clean, well decorated and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was very spacious too. I'd recommend the place to others.

Shared this property with three other adults. Very spacious and comfortable for the four of us. The location midway between Duluth and Two Harbors worked great for us. Will definitely stay here again, and hopefully for more than two nights. Property owner provided thorough information regarding check-in and check-out, as well as information about the surrounding area; and was very responsive to emails and text messages. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

AWESOME PLACE!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Brought my wife her for a few nights for our 20th wedding anniversary. Place was perfect. Very nice and updated and plenty of room. We actually could have brought the kids----maybe next time. ha ha Everything is top notch and we loved our own sauna. Kate was super easy to work with and made for easy planning. We enjoyed the surrounding areas as hiked, ate, and relaxed.

Nestled between little Sucker and Sucker rivers, the beauty is everywhere. Just a 15 minute drive from Duluth and 10 minutes to Two Harbors. Knife River is just 4 miles from the suites. This old fishing village has the famous Russ Kendall's smoked fish house and a family qwned candy shop that cannot be missed. There is also a marina. The McQuade safe harbor is a few miles away and has public access to Lake Superior. Tom's logging camp is a mile away. A great place to learn about the history of the lumberjacks and see some animals. A must see if you have children. The sucker river is one of the most beautiful rivers on the North Shore. It flies under the radar of visitors because it is not a state park. You'll find it a great place to explore and you might decide to jump in the many swimming holes it offers.
