Less Than 1 Star -Horrible

  • 1 of 5

Such a shame that the owner is interested only in your weekly rent check! The house is in shambles: the toilets clog, the bathtubs leak, the air conditioning filters are filthy and blow out dirty dust, bugs- roaches and ants visible even during the day, the soffits have fallen off the left side of the house leaving a gaping hole, the furniture is worn out -need a hoist to get up and out of the sofa, and overall the house is nasty -sticky, gritty floors, dust everywhere, gooey black mold in all the showers. If this is not bad enough, two new homes are under construction next door. The hammering and construction noise is impossible to get away from inside or outside the house. A storm blew construction debris and dirt into the pool making it unusable. Calling the management company did no good. The pool guy finally showed up to clean the pool on his his regularly scheduled day. Oak Island is fine with an uncrowded beach for the most part. However, this property is right across from the public access to the inlet. Therefore, Joe Public parks all along the street sometimes blocking the driveway. The traffic on this road is troublesome - distracted drivers, constant, and a bit too fast. There are beautiful new homes further back from the point that rent for the same amount which are in excellent condition. Avoid this rental! Life's too short and you work too hard to have your vacation sabatoged by a situation like this. (Photo documentation available)

Wedding great, house ok

  • 2 of 5

Well where do I begin, we have been coming to oak island for vacation for many years we absolutely love it. We had a very special occasion this time, our daughters wedding. We were going to be having it on the beach and the reception at the house so we needed a big enough space for all. The size was good and the outdoor space was sufficient and we loved having the pool, the beach access was good although further than we expected, we found just the perfect spot. The wedding was beautiful. Now as far as the house, this being the first time renting a luxury home, it was far from it, defiantly priced as such and had to pay an event fee which should have included something but didn't. They need to rewrite their info about it. The kitchen was not stocked well. The pots and pans that were there all need to be replaced, the cleaning service needs help, floors dirty and sandy, and the showers dirty, the pillows are yellowed, there are several repairs that need to be done. The furniture is in need of replacement, you practically sit on the floor the pool lounges are all broken, rocking chairs are nice. The location was great we love that end of the island. The elevator came in very handy in loading and unloading all of our stuff. The light switches are very confusing who ever wired it must have been drunk, some work some don't and the same with the outlets. There were several bulbs that were out and needed to be replaced. We have rented other homes with no problems from other rental companies and have been very pleased. Found the house on VRBO and when emailing thought I was dealing with the owner but then had terrible communication with the rental place. If deciding to rent this property be sure to bring a lot with you cause there is nothing there to use. I will continue to vacation at oak island just will read more reviews and deal with our other rental company. This won't stop me from coming. The wedding was beautiful and we were able to enjoy and relax afterwards. Over all for the price you could do better.

Middle of the road

  • 4 of 5

My family and I have been coming down to the beach for many years. This house was a little less expensive than what we usually pay and we could appreciate the difference. For the pro's I would say the location is great as is the pool. Kids had a great time. Easy beach access tho not directly behind the property but a short 5 minute walk - no big deal. House definitely is in need of some upgrades both cosmetically and functionally. Nothing major however and nothing that would get in the way of enjoying a great week on the beach. Biggest recommendation would be to bring your own pans and utensils if you wish to cook. Very sparse and in poor condition. We read prior reviews and planned accordingly so had no issues. Grill is a simple charcoal only so bring a bag of bricks and some lighter fluid. No major positive wow experiences with the property but it did its job giving us a great week in Oak Island! No regrets! As far as the prior reviews toaster and internet worked fine and we did not have any major issues with bugs. And I guess if you don't bring beach towels to a beach house then that is your own issue....

Great location, needs some updating

  • 3 of 5

Our family of grandparents, parents and children stayed here in early May 2016.

The great: We loved the newly expanded deck. It was a perfect mix between sun and shade. Loved the rocking chairs!! The pool is beautiful, but not heated. The kitchen is large and had plenty of space. There was more than enough plates, glasses, mugs, etc. House location is perfect. Quiet end of the street and the beaches are fairly empty. Beds are very comfortable. New tv's and new storage in bedrooms. More than enough storage for a week. Plenty of parking for 4 cars.

The ok: Beds are small. Only one king size. The dining table is pretty, but small. (No room for a larger table) Would love to have better pots and pans. Also, bring a sharp chefs knife with you! There is an elevator, but beware of little fingers in the scissor door.

The bad: The back doors do not lock. One of those doors are into a bedroom. The sofas are worn and ripping apart. Don't sit down if you can not get up easily! The path to the beach is not easily accessible. Bathroom showers need updating. The shower doors do not close or open easily. The outdoor outlet does not work, as well as several inside the house on the back side of the house. The house needs some tlc...rotting windows and door knobs that fall off in your hands, missing trim and paint overall outside. We alerted Better Beach Rentals at the beginning of the trip to two problems. None were addressed. We assumed they were going to fix these problems when we left. We moved a tv so that a working tv was in the master. The door knob could not be fixed by us without going to the hardware store to get a proper screw.

Terrible experance

  • 1 of 5

The pool was not maintained when we arrived. They charged us $70.00 more for linens, bedding and towels. They did not provide pool or beach towels. The toaster was broken. The Internet connection did not work. There was no pool furniture and the patio furniture they did have was filthy and we had to clean it before we could use it! And the furniture sofas were so old, and out dated and worn out that when you sat on the you almost went to the floor! I would estimate the furniture was atleast 30 years old and low quality at best! The beds were low quality and the linens were low quality. They only that had a tv directory on the one in the living room all the tvs in the bedrooms were guess and by golly. Finally they had no direct beach access and we had to use the neighbors, which was an awful path through the weeds.

Now for the fixes. It took 3 day before we could use the pool. It took thee days to get a toaster and a few (2) pool lounges for the 9 of us to use. Lol. The Internet never got fixed. We had to drive to another location for easier access to the beach.

None of this one would expect from a reported million and a half dollar home, further, the owner didn't care at all. Just wanted the money.

The rental company did their best to help but found the owner did care or want to help.

On a positive note the home had a nice view, but I would never say there again! My best advice is move on!

Paradise Point

  • 1 of 5

We go on three to four vacations annually and try to stay in nice places/homes when we travel. We usually travel to Oak Island as one of our vacations for the year and this Spring of 2016, we stayed at the Paradise Point house for a week and family's/friend's thoughts on the house were "mixed". Once of the most positive aspects was the views from the property, there was the oceanfront view coincided with the inter-coastal view together made for an excellent site from all angles. Everyone enjoyed that! However, there were a several other items that we were not happy with, to say the least. One being the house needed to be exterminated, there were multiply siting of "cock roaches" inside the house including our master bathroom , which did not go well over with my wife. It didn't bother me and my son as much as it did her and my daughter's. Second, we like to grill out while we are on vacation and the house as nice as it seemed in the pictures, didn't have a grill, so I had to go to Lowe's Hardware and purchase a grill just so that we could have a cook out while on vacation. That was a total disappointment! Third, when we went to cook in the kitchen the pot and pans and accessories were completely old and some rusted and not really in reasonable condition to cook with. I was almost prepared to go to the store and buy a few pans, etc, but we decided to use what we had, which wasn't much. Fourth, the house showed alot of deterioration and was in need of serious maintenance, example being the exterior walls showed missing panels, also areas of rotting wood and even door handles fell off the doors while we were there and I had to go to the Lowe's "again" and buy an allen wrench to put back on door handle securely. There were other issues, but I believe you get my point. That is a location we will not go back to and we even looked at other possible locations while we rode around on golf carts.
