Updated Cabin with Lake & Mountain Views Near Town
Welcome to Highwood House
Welcome to our updated Grand Lake mountain retreat, where panoramic, unobstructed lake and mountain views meet a comfortable, modern mountain-cabin feel.
We bought Highwood House as a family retreat and have thoughtfully remodeled and furnished it from top to bottom. The result is a warm, inviting home that combines the character of a Colorado mountain cabin with the comforts you want after a day of exploring Rocky Mountain National Park, hiking, boating, skiing, or simply relaxing in Grand Lake.
The house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious loft, and a large deck with incredible views. It's designed to be equally comfortable for families, friends, or couples traveling together.
The Great Room
The heart of the house is an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area with plenty of room to gather.
The fully stocked kitchen has everything you'll need to prepare a meal at home, while the generous farmhouse dining table seats up to eight comfortably with the leaf installed.
After a day outside, settle into the brand-new Crate & Barrel sofa, play a game, read a book, or watch a movie on the 50" LED TV. A Blu-ray/DVD player and cable TV are also available.
Music lovers will appreciate the Sonos system, with stereo speakers that let you enjoy your own music throughout the house using Spotify or internet radio.
Two Ensuite Bedrooms
Highwood House has two comfortable ensuite bedrooms, each with:
Queen-size bed Private 3/4 bathroom Walk-in closet Comfortable, brand-new mattress Luxury linens and down pillows Light-blocking curtains
The two ensuite bedrooms make the house particularly comfortable for two couples or families traveling with grandparents or friends.
The Loft
Upstairs, a spacious 12' x 16' loft provides a separate sleeping and hangout space.
The loft has two twin beds, a comfortable chair for reading, and a table that's perfect for games, puzzles, or a quiet afternoon. For families with younger children, we also provide bed rails for both twin beds.
The Deck & Views
One of our favorite features of Highwood House is the 400+ square-foot deck, surrounded by aspen trees and overlooking the lake and mountains.
Enjoy dinner at the six-person outdoor dining table, fire up the BBQ grill, or pull up an Adirondack chair and enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the panoramic, unobstructed views.
The house isn't directly on the lake, but its elevated setting gives you a wonderful perspective over the water and surrounding mountains.
Family-Friendly
Highwood House was designed with families in mind. In addition to the loft's twin beds and optional bed rails, we provide:
Pack 'n Play Booster seat Bed rails for both twin beds Child-friendly plates and cups Games and puzzles
There's plenty of space for everyone to spread out while still having a comfortable central gathering place.
Thoughtfully Updated
We've completed an extensive renovation of the home, including:
Completely remodeled kitchen Both bathrooms remodeled down to the studs New solid-surface countertops New bamboo flooring throughout New appliances New interior and exterior doors Baldwin Brass interior door hardware New light fixtures inside and out New plumbing New forced-air central heating New high-efficiency fiberglass windows Custom window treatments Professionally redecorated and furnished Restored exterior New roof New 50" TV New Crate & Barrel sofa

About the host
Hosted by Parker
We’re a family of four with two boys, and we live in Denver. We bought Highwood House as a place for our family to escape the city, spend time together, and give our kids plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors.
We love Grand Lake because it feels like a place where you can slow down, get outside, and reconnect with the people you’re traveling with. We’ve put a lot of time and care into making Highwood House comfortable, welcoming, and a place where we genuinely love spending time.
We’re excited to share our family retreat with you and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
Grand Lake has an incredible combination of outdoor adventure and small-town charm. You can spend the morning hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, fishing or exploring the lake, riding trails, or simply wandering through town and along the historic boardwalk.
In winter, the area becomes a completely different kind of playground, with snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, snowmobiling, and downhill skiing all within easy reach.
We love that Highwood House gives us easy access to all of that while still feeling like a peaceful retreat at the end of the day. After an adventure, there’s nothing better than coming back to the house, settling onto the deck, and watching the light change over the lake and mountains.
For our family, Grand Lake is the perfect escape from the pace of city life. We hope it becomes a place where you can slow down, get outside, and make some great memories of your own.
What makes this property unique
The first time we walked onto the deck at Highwood House and saw the lake and mountain views through the surrounding aspens, we knew we had found something special. We could see Shadow Mountain Lake, Mount Baldy, and the mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park, and we immediately fell in love with the setting.
We’ve spent years turning the house itself into the kind of place we want to stay. We completely remodeled the interior, added new flooring, remodeled both bathrooms and the kitchen, replaced the windows and appliances, and furnished it to feel comfortable, warm, and thoughtfully designed.
What makes Highwood House special to us is the combination of the setting and the home itself: beautiful lake and mountain views, a huge deck surrounded by aspens, comfortable spaces for families and friends to gather, and a cozy mountain-cabin feel without sacrificing the conveniences of a well-updated home.
It’s our family retreat, and we’re excited to share it with you.
