Villa Norte Where the Jungle Meets the Ocean

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

3 Bedroom, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 7, Beach Front Property With Pool

• Now With Reliable Cable Internet 5Mbps download / 1.5 Mbps Upload.

Tropical fun, adventure, and relaxation await you and your family and friends. There are a variety of excellent surf spots starting with the beach break just past the pool. The natural beauty of Costa Rica is served up inside and out in this beautifully designed home located close to town, but far from anything you have ever seen in this area of Costa Rica. The open architecture takes advantage of the incredible setting. The home feels light and airy with great views from almost every window. Lush gardens and the sweeping sand beach are seamlessly joined by natural trees and plants.

Comfort! Each bedroom has a dedicated air conditioner, fan, screened windows and sliding glass doors. The beds, interior, and exterior furniture are excellent quality and very comfortable. Much of the furniture was built by local craftsmen. The family room, dining room, kitchen, and upstairs seating area have ceiling fans, and screened windows and doors.

Playa Dominical and the nearby coastal town of Uvita have loads of restaurants featuring local flavors and casual dining. The variety of eateries bring out the international diversity of people who have found their way to this fantastic, tropical beach town. The community of Dominical is very welcoming and the authentic Costa Rican, Pura Vida vibe abounds. There are no casinos, high rise hotels, or fancy nightclubs; but Dominical does have a great night life based on people coming together to eat, drink, dance, and socialize in the casual atmosphere of this south Pacific beach town. The place has something surprising and pleasant for people of every age.

The home and surrounding environment is very family and child friendly, designed to make it easy for people to spend time together in paradise. It is important to remember as with all Pacific beaches and resorts, young children should be supervised while playing in the ocean or pool. The beach at low tide is expansive and inviting. Sunrises and sunsets are often spectacular. You will find much of what you have dreamed of Costa Rica, right here at Caballitos del Mar (Little horses of the Sea)..

Caballitos Del Mar North sits adjacent to two other villas (Caballitos Del Mar Central and South) that were built in a similar fashion. The three villas are private and can be rented separately or, for large groups conducting weddings or reunions, they can be rented all together. And while the beach out front is public, it is rarely visited by tourists or locals. For most of your stay, you’ll have the sand and waves all to yourself. Each villa can sleep as many as seven adults.

Guestbook comments from the manager

“We were looking for a classy place on the beach and we found it with this place. A short stroll along the beach at low tide gets you into Dominical and Uvita is 15 minutes by car. Neil's guest book of local attractions and restos is very informative. We loved the pool and the fact that it was professionally maintained was a plus. Pura Vida”

Spacious BEACH House

  • 5 of 5

Villa Norte is fantastic. A spacious three bedroom house DIRECTLY on the ocean. During low tide you can walk into town from the house and swim right in your back yard! Each bedroom has its own AC which was greatly appreciated at night. The pool is much larger than we anticipated and had comfortable loungers and an outdoor dining table and grill. The house was extremely clean and having Nora and Rolando there to take care of the house keeping and grounds was fantastic. We would highly recommend this house for a couples get away, family vacation, really anything you need - its a great location and house!

The only draw back (and really this is nit picky) is that the house is close to the road and you can hear the cars and trucks driving by. However, for the convenience of being close to town and the restaurant, Porque No? is a stones throw away, the location is ideal!

A fantastic vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family of five adults and one child. All the features work perfectly, and the staff was friendly. The location is amazing; just yards from a world class beach.

We would highly recommend this rental to anyone vacationing on the Pacific side of Costa Rica.

Unbeatable proximity to the beach!

  • 5 of 5

This is one of three identical houses that sit side-by-side, but are separated by trees, so reasonable privacy exists, provided your neighbors are respectful and not loud. We had family staying in the middle house, so that is a nice option if you are travelling with anyone. We couldn't see the ocean from our lower level or the pool, but it is only steps away. The beach is good and we all had a lot of fun playing in the surf. Most of the sand is always wet as high tide comes in to cover most of the beach and it is a very gradual slope to the beach. Wet sand in this area is a good thing though, as dry sand can be unbearably hot on the feet! As long as the tide isn't too high and coming in, you can walk down the beach into Dominical in about 15 minutes.

Dominical is a small surfing village with a dirt main street, but there is plenty of character here and we much preferred the quieter nature of Dominical and Uvita to the busyness and tourism of Quepos/Manuel Antonio. Mono Congo is a great little coffee shop we were at numerous times. If you like craft beer, don't miss El Fuego, Dominical's own microbrewery/restaurant.

The house is a unique design and feels very spacious. There is on-sight daily light housekeeping and a nighttime security guard (although we never felt unsafe in this region) included in the price, which was nice. The pool is excellent and a good size. There are many geckos and lizards around the property which we all thoroughly enjoyed watching!

We have never surfed before, but did take lessons and had a blast in the waves at Playa Dominical. There are better beaches in the area, however, and frankly right in front of the house if a beach is what you are looking for. We enjoyed Playa Matapalo, Playa Hermosa (by Uvita), and Playa Ventanas to name a few.

There are many excellent restaurants between Quepos and Uvita, far exceeding our expectations. One of our favourites, Por Que No, was just a minute or so down the road. You have to try it!

The only negative we found was that these three houses sit right beside the main highway. The sound of the surf compensates for maybe half the highway noise, but if that is something that would bother you, you need to consider it. However, the property is priced with this consideration factored in, and you will likely not find a house and location like this at this price anywhere else. We would stay here again and highly recommend this region of Costa Rica if you are looking for a real get-away.

Great House

  • 4 of 5

The house is amazing. It is very well built and has all the amenities you could need. The beach is beautiful and this is one of the few places available to rent that is on the beach. You are very close to the highway so you can hear the compression brakes of the trucks, but if the windows are closed you can’t really hear them. The only reason my rating is four stars instead of five is because of the undisclosed PayPal fees you get charged when you rent it. We have been traveling through Central America for almost 4 month now, renting places either through AirBNB or VRBO. This is the first time I have been charged fees that aren’t disclosed when you submit the reservation request. In the grand scheme of things, we aren’t talking huge amounts of money. I was charged just under $30 for the reservation payment - it is more the principle and the fact that my complaint was ignored. The fee was disclosed to me by the property manager in an email after I booked. I said I didn’t agree with the fee. He said he would talk to the owner. Nothing. Then at check in it came up again. I again stated my position and was again told the owner would contact me about it. Again nothing. Then at check out I was told I could pay it in cash right then or it would get deducted from my damage deposit but deducting it from my damage deposit (which was my preference) would delay my refund (which doesn’t make any sense to me since it’s a matter of inputting a total into PayPal). So we scrambled to come up with exact change. Three days passed and I saw no mention of my damage deposit being refunded so I sent the property manager and the owner an email and they refunded it the next day. $300 less $13.50 PayPal fee! I rented a place in Panama last month that also had a damage deposit requirement. He refunded me the $300 via PayPal without taking a fee. I fail to understand the difference and so far neither the owner or the property management group has found it worth their time to explain.

A slice of perfection beyond all expectations

  • 5 of 5

Like everything else that is beautiful in Costa Rica - pictures do not do this place justice. Just like the Nauyaca Waterfalls are more stunning in person, Arenal Volcano is more stunning in person, a zip line is more exhilarating in person, this house is absolutely stunning in person on every level.

It is one of the only properties in the Dominical area that sits on the beach side of the highway. Look at the map view and you will see this is true. The pacific ocean is so close, you can roll out of bed in the morning and crawl to it without breaking a sweat. And that is essentially what I did every morning to start my day. I must say it beats my "normal" routine of taking the NYC Subway to work. Pura Vida.

The home is beautifully decorated, with smart and user friendly details all over the place - like a huge stack of fresh towels, modern appliances and dishes, an outdoor shower (!), a BBQ, a washer/dryer (not mentioned in the listing but a HUGE bonus), individual AC in each room - a sign that the owners care about your experience and want you to enjoy it. The cherry on top? A nice tidy up every day by the on-prem caretaker Nora. This is what I call hotel luxury without the hotel BS.

Regarding the area: Dominical town has a lovely feeling of being small and off the grid, yet has everything you need for conveniences: an ATM, supermarket, gas station, groceries, restaurants, bars, coffee etc. If you surf, there are tons of great breaks nearby that range in size experience level. Also some great attractions like the Nauyaca Waterfalls, Uvita, whale watching, Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary...

If you are looking for a one of a kind experience in an absolutely stunning home in Costa Rica that will create a lifetime of good memories, do yourself a favor and book this property. It is that good.
