About this property

On the Rio Grande River!! Rinconada Rio Grande Retreat

From the moment you see the Rio Grande River from our Great Room you know that your Rio Grande Retreat experience will be very special. Our house is located just 20 minutes south of Taos in the village of Rinconada situated in the heart of historic northern New Mexico, between Taos and Santa Fe, right on the banks of the Rio Grande River. Whether you visit in the spring when thousands of flowers are in bloom, the summer when our orchard is producing a variety of delicious apples, the fall when giant cottonwoods are ablaze with color, or the winter with the opportunity to ski at five different ski areas within an hour's travel time, all four seasons will be memorable.

With over three acres of grounds, your Rio Grande Retreat provides all the privacy you will ever desire. The ample and well-maintained gardens and fruit orchards enhance the natural beauty of the red sandstone vistas to the south and the fertile tree-lined banks of the Rio Grande River to the north.

Welcome to our 3400-square-foot, authentic, New Mexico, territorial-style home! It is ideal for a romantic getaway for two and comfortably accommodates six people in our three plus one bedrooms. Your Rinconada Retreat experience begins in the front courtyard with striking sandstone walls, flagstone walkways, a monumental stonehenge
circle surrounded by rosebushes and a cactus garden. Enjoy the front porch at sunset while relaxing in two antique leather chairs. It is the perfect place for sun-filled conversations or bird watching!

Great Room: The 1,000 square-foot great room with vaulted ceilings will most likely be the focal point of your indoor activities. An oversized leather sofa plus a reclining loveseat face the 55-inch high definition TV. We provide Netflix, Prime Video and Hulu (for news and sports). Another area of the great room features a large, natural gas, kiva fireplace.

Kitchen: Our extra-large kitchen is part of the great room and is fully equipped with Jenn-air gas stove, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with chilled water and dishwasher. There is a microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven, as well as fun extras such as a Belgium waffle maker and a fruit juicer. A teak kitchen table and chairs provide for informal dining or playing cards.

Dining Room: The separate dining room has the ambiance of a historic Mexican hacienda with a fabulous nine-foot long mesquite table made from an antique Mexican door and surrounded by six hand-crafted, wood and leather chairs. A rustic sofa table adorned with authentic Mexican retablos and a beautifully laid brick floor with radiant heating complete the historic mood of this distinctive room.

Three Bedrooms: The huge master bedroom has an en suite bathroom, and soothing views of the Rio Grande River. Two of our bedrooms have king-sized beds and one has twin beds. Each room has luxurious linens and southwestern-style furniture and smart Roku-powered TV's that are internet connected.

Bathrooms: There are three bathrooms - two full and one powder room. The master bathroom has two Mexican sinks, extra-tall counters, and a walk-in shower.

Studio: You can use the studio/workshop to create the art or craft projects that New Mexico always inspires.

Hot Tub: Watch the Rio Grande while relaxing in a large, Hot Springs hot tub that sits in the screened-in porch just off the great room.

Extras: Hair dryers, washer/dryer, dishwasher, iron, ironing board, and first-aid kit.

OUTDOOR AMENITIES:
Its all about the Rio Grande River - situated right on the banks of the famous Rio Grande River, our property offers an unparalleled private river experience. Relax by the river and enjoy the rapids, waterfowl, birds and tranquility. Imagine fishing for trout or bass on your own secluded beach!
* Gazebo - Enjoy outdoor dining on the river's edge in the kiva-style gazebo with large picnic table.
* Firepit - The firepit is down by the river. Chairs and sitting logs provide plenty of comfort for night time camp fires with an unparalleled view of the brightest star-scape in the United States.
* Orchard - The orchard features three kinds of apples. You are invited to pick some fruit for your use while staying at the retreat.

OFF-SITE ACTIVITIES:
* It is all about art (and shopping) - You are just 50 minutes from Santa Fe's world-famous art galleries, museums, shopping, and gourmet or casual restaurants. Santa Fe is third worldwide for art sales, behind only New York and London. Taos, just 20 minutes away, also has top-notch art galleries, with a more laid-back environment.
* Dining - We can recommend some restaurants for unforgettable dining experiences.
* Hiking - Hiking opportunities abound right out the front door with BLM lands bordering two sides of the property. Additionally, the spectacular Rio Grande Gorge (and latest National Monument, Rio Grande Norte) is situated several miles to the north and has a number of well-maintained hiking trails.
* Skiing - Taos, Santa Fe, Sipapu, Angel Fire, and Pajarito.
* Fishing - Just walk out the backdoor and cast away!
* Gambling - Enjoy gambling? Several, mid-sized, well-appointed casinos can be found within a half-hours drive.
* Golfing - There are a number of excellent golf courses within a 45-minute drive.
* Studio Tours - Northern New Mexico is famous for its studio tours at which you can visit the studios of local artists, and, if inclined, buy their unique pieces. Besides Rinconada which has a number of galleries, two of the best studio tour events are in our neighboring communities of Pilar and Dixon.
* Exploring - Albuquerque is Georgia O'Keefe country, Chimayo is home to the world-class Ortega weaving studio, Chimayo's church was made famous by Ansel Adams and has sacred dirt, believed to help heal illness and injuries.
* Rafting - Rafting is available from a number of nearby well-established outfitters.

So, indoors or out, we have everything you need for an unforgettable vacation in the Land of Enchantment.

Adventures in Paradise
First of all the house is a large four bedroom house that's very clean and well maintained. It's decorated in a southwestern style that makes it very appealing and comfortable. The Rio Grande river is just steps out the backdoor. This is our second stay and like last year, we participate in a lot of outdoor activities; hiking, horseback riding, rock hounding, etc. Also, the house is isolated and very quiet with very good restaurants not too far away.

Can't wait to come back!
The host and manager have made this property the perfect place for a stay on the river. They have thought of everything and the house is in perfect condition , well designed, and decorated. Going to sleep with the sound of the rushing river! Wow! I even recorded it so I could listen every night at home!! Barely got my luggage un packed and I am ready to return.

Relaxing
The house was perfect just like the pictures. The river was an extra bonus my niece enjoyed fishing and us adults enjoyed just relaxing and listening to the water. Taos is just 30 minutes up the mountain and Espanola about 30 minutes in the opposite direction. We had a blast and look forward to staying here again.

Wonderful stay in Rinconada
We had a wonderful vacation in Rinconada Resort. It was the perfect location for us - close to Taos but quiet and peaceful. We loved the riverfront location and want to come back in warmer weather to enjoy it more. Highly recommend checking out Sipapu for skiing. It is dramatically cheaper than Taos Ski Valley, Angel Fire, etc. No, it’s not the same feel and “luxury” as some of the nicer slopes but we didn’t wait in line for more than 5 minutes. Set your expectations accordingly and it’s well worth it especially for beginner skiers. One 17 year old, two 15 year olds, and two adults and everyone was beyond thrilled with the house. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Outdoor relaxation getawsy
This home is amazing to be able to have a holiday getaway from all the city rush during the holidays. Quick and easy access to Taos or Santa Fe ski areas, museums or art galleries but better place to just sit back and relax by the river front or just go for a walk on the river. This is the second time staying with family at this home and it gets better everytime. Can’t wait to come back again. Oh also really close to U.S. Hill for great sledding

What a lovely home. Enjoyed every bit of it. Sitting by the river a lovely fire and fresh apples. I grew up on New Mexico and have never stayed anywhere but with family. Your home was very warm and inviting. Thank you for sharing it.

It's All About The River
Rinconada Retreat was just as represented. Beautifully decorated and offered everything we needed. It is the first time I was provided beach towels and chairs! It was peaceful and we spent a great deal of time out by the river. Breakfast on the upper patio; picnics lower down; and we pulled the smaller table out of the gazebo to dine under the sky.

The nearby small town of Dixon was an added treat with a great Co-op grocery store, local cafe and wineries, and a great low power FM radio station. Taos was an easy 1/2 drive and nearby hiking trails rounded out our adventure.

Enjoyed our stay
Enjoyed the property, the scenery, the nature all around us. We arrived to a beautiful home that was fully stocked with everything we use at our home. The owners left a welcoming gift in the fridge, that was a first for us too while staying at a rental. Thank you so much for that. It was nice getting away from the Texas heat. My family loved the river as the backyard. Myself & my 13yo son thought it was so cool looking at the dark sky seeing stars, moon and whatever else we saw up there moving. Made family memories with our first grandchild, she loved the jacuzzi & hammock. I definitely recommend staying here & plan to go back again. Familia Perez

Spa, hiking, seeing the sights
We had a wonderful stay in a very roomy and comfortable home with exquisite rivers views. All the information we needed was provided in advance by the owners. The kitchen was well appointed for cooking and good restaurant food was also nearby. We would love to stay here again sometime. We did several day trips to some wonderful places: Ojo Caliente, Ghost Ranch, Truces, Chimayo, Nambe, etc. The house was a perfect home base.

The property embodies the heart and soul of New Mexico from the natural surroundings outside to the furnishings and art gracing the walls throughout the home. This is a sportsman dream as well as a an art/nature lovers happy place. This is a place you can relax and enjoy life. And the local attractions, whether it be Ballooning, Horseback riding, Kayaking, or Hiking will bring you back to what really matters in life. Enjoyment!

Perfection!
Wow! We absolutely loved staying at the Rinconada Retreat. Everything we needed to have a great vacation was right at our fingertips. You can tell the owners are proud of their property. The touches of love were everywhere - the art was so special and the grounds are well cared for. The property itself is magnificent. The river, the arroyo and river trails for hiking and all of the outside amenities were a big plus. There are multiple places to gather inside and out. The kitchen was stocked well for our group of wanna be chefs. The locals were very friendly and so helpful when we were looking for more off beat places to hike and fish. The location was perfect for our many visits to Taos and also Bandelier and Santa Fe. We all wish we could have stayed another week. PS - Thank you Christopher for the bottle of bubbly. We certainly enjoyed toasting our first evening.

Lovely Retreat Ideally Located
A well-equipped and spacious house with interesting art and a lovely river location. Even though it got down to 12 degrees - cold for March - the house was great and the hot tub was warm. We did a lot of cooking and had everything we needed for cutting, chopping and serving. I only wish we'd had more people to occupy all the chairs at the huge table. We loved Vivac Winery and the local brewery. Rinconada was the exact right amount of chill.

River Bliss
This house is exactly what the doctor ordered! It was well kept, clean and well stocked. It is wonderfully comfortable and well situated on the river, in other words, it’s really nice. So many places to sit and watch the river go by. Glorious. I sat in the hot tub and watched the ducks. Very peaceful. Chris was helpful with all the information he provided. Blue Heron Brewing was good beer and nice space. Pizza really good. This really was a retreat. I hope we can make it back again soon.

Idyllic retreat
This house and property are truly a memorable retreat! The house is spacious, comfortable, impeccably clean. The kitchen well equipped, had all that we needed. (My husband and I enjoy cooking.) The hot tub much appreciated after some beautiful hikes. The river and it’s many moods was magical - from early morning coffee to wine at sunset. We would love to return and share it with family. Communication with Chris (owner) and Melody (property manager) great, giving us additional recommendations. Thank you for hosting a most memorable and enjoyable time at this peaceful retreat.
