About Jim Schneider
This property is owned and offered by Mountain Mentors, a non-profit agency in Toledo, Ohio. Mountain Mentors partners adults with challenged and at-risk youth. A highlight of the program is a week of hiking in the White Mountains, including a strenuous hike to the top of Mount Washington for those with great courage and stamina. This cabin is used as the base camp for the group, and we are pleased to be able to share it with you.
What makes this Cabin unique
The setting is extraordinary with a small river in the back of the property, plenty of places to sit and ponder, and hiking trails to explore. The White Mountains are amazing all year round. By staying in this property you will be assisting our organization as we continue to help the youth with whom we work. You will also find yourself in a beautiful, serene setting where you can relax and enjoy the outdoors year round.

Very quiet and peaceful
This is a beautiful area to visit. The house has everything you might possibly need and is comfortable. I especially liked the fact that there is no television. We drove around a lot mostly because it was so hot so we would hop in the car and take off. I am glad we did that. I was disappointed by the fact that the house is right on the road but the traffic is minimal so no problem there. We visited antique shops in Bethel and Lovel. Everyone we met was friendly. Scenery is beautiful, NH is a beautiful place.
So glad you were able to explore the little towns in the area. That’s part of the reason there’s no TV.
That house was actually moved there from just down the road a little way. If we would have built it we probably would have put it further back but your right there isn’t a whole lot of traffic.
Come back next year and you’ll find a lot more to do in the area.
Cute and quiet cabin!
Adorable abode! It's comfortable for 2 to 4 people but can sleep more. Perfect of you're looking for a get away with just nature!
Thank you for staying at our cabin. We’re glad you enjoyed your time hiking and enjoying the outdoors.
Not what was advertised
Host was responsive and helpful but house is not a four bedroom is a one bedroom wifi barley worked there was no door on one of the so called bedrooms and we found mice in the house during our stay
We try very hard to let everyone know that this is not a 4 bedroom cabin but has 4 areas to sleep in. Sorry that we didn’t communicate that well enough. Yes the wifi is weak in the cabin especially if 3 or 4 different devices are being used. Most people only use it for a short time and are glad to be disconnected for their stay.
In the wooded area mice are sometimes a problem, especially if there is any food dropped on the floor. We do our best to keep them out.
Fall in the White Mountains
A cozy little cabin in the woods, as the fall colors improved every day -- what a treat. A hike, and sunsets over Basin Pond up the road,
wonderful meals, ice cream, cinnamons rolls at Stow Corner Store down the road, peace and quiet, or the Fryeburg Fair! Choices during the day and the full moon at night.
No better get-away from our too hectic lives....
We’re so glad you enjoyed your get away. There really is a lot to be said for this area of the White Mountains. Hope to have you come back again.
perfect place for get away! really liked it with my wife!will recomend my friends!
nice cozy place to forget about everything!
Thanks for the kind words,
it was a pleasure having you. We're glad you enjoyed yourself and look forward to hosting you again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thayer Cabin! It truly is a hidden gem. Far enough away from it all that you can unplug, relax and really unwind, yet within an hour's drive from many attractions, like the Mt. Washington Auto Road (incredible, by the way), North Conway Outlets, and Franconia Notch State Park. We asked if moose had ever been spotted on the property, and were told that as moose are timid creatures, only once in nearly 30 years. We were so fortunate that we actually were able to see one about 4 miles north of the cabin!! It was an amazing sight!
The cabin is very well maintained, was furnished with all bedding and towels. A supply of firewood was provided. All we needed to bring was our personal items, and groceries.
My adult son found a craft beer bar within 30 minutes in Lovell, ME and it was a fantastic find. Ebenezer's Pub had loads of beer to try and the food was top notch!! Another place to try is the Stow Corner Store and Cafe - Fantastic food and delightful home made pastries and desserts - try the Steak Bomb - you won't regret it! And if cinnamon rolls are available, get one-it's enough for 2 to share!
Overall, our stay was wonderful; just the right combination of activities and just good old R & R!! We will definitely be back!!
Thank you for opening up this lovely hidden gem for folks to get away to! It was a pleasure to stay there!!
Thanks for staying at our little slice of heaven, we're glad you enjoyed it. I'm really glad that you made the most of your stay by exploring the whole area and finding out all the great things to do at this time of year. We'll look forward to hosting you again.
