About the property

Big Island ,2 Bedroom 2 Bathroom, Penthouse with Amazing Views, A/C , Free Wifi

Banyan Tree Penthouse Condo 402 is a spacious, ocean front condo with an ocean view that will leave you breathless. Located on the quiet 4th floor, penthouse level yet so close to the water that you can actually look down and see tropical fish like the yellow tang! Sea turtles, spinner dolphins, humpback whales (when in season) and surfers often entertain you by day and the surf will lull you to sleep each night. The living room features floor to ceiling windows that look as though the ocean is coming inside! The private, tiled lanai is the perfect place to enjoy your coffee in the morning or to have a cocktail and watch a picture perfect sunset in the evening.

Inside you’ll find all the comforts of home. The oceanfront master bedroom has a comfy king bed and the second bedroom a queen and twin so the unit comfortably sleeps five. The fully stocked kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to make meals or prepare for the perfect "sunset happy hour"! Enjoy two flat screen TV’s with over 200 channels, a DVD library, Bluetooth speaker for your tunes and free WiFi. Beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, coolers and an umbrella are supplied for your beach days. Pack fewer clothes for your trip if you like because of the new full size Maytag washer and dryer. Air conditioning is throughout the condo to keep you cool on those warmer Kona days!

The Banyan Tree is a small, well-kept complex with only 20 units so it never feels crowded. The property is located as close as you can get to the Pacific Ocean. In fact new construction is no longer allowed to be as close to the ocean as Banyan Tree. The heated, ocean front pool has mesmerizing views and plenty of comfortable lounge chairs. Barbecue grills and a hot tub are also poolside. A spacious veranda on the second floor with amazing views is available to all Banyan Tree guests for entertaining. Directly next door is a small, sandy beach where the locals access the Banyan Surf site, a famed stretch of water in front of the condo known for fantastic surfing and boogie boarding.

Banyan Tree is centrally located on the sunny side of the Big Island in Kailua-Kona. Top rated restaurants like the Poke Shack and local farmers markets are minutes away. Downtown Kona, with galleries and shops is less than three miles. Historic Alii drive, which is great for ocean walks, is right out the back door. Ready for the beach? Magic Sands Beach is less than a mile away. Kahalu'u Beach is only two miles and has easy snorkeling where you can get up-close to beautiful reefs and abundant sea life. It's also a great place to learn to surf. Postcard perfect beaches such as Hapuna Beach and Kua Bay are to the north and Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park and Captain Cooks monument lie to the south. Also to the south is Two Step Beach, located near Pu’u Honua O Honaunau National Historic Park, which is a perfect snorkeling spot to explore the crystal clear waters of Kona’s coast. Since Banyan Tree is located about halfway up the Kona coast you can easily drive to either end of the island. When you're done just park in your designated parking stall and take the elevator to your penthouse retreat!

This is an ocean lover's dream, we hope you visit soon!

About Kim & Jon Bourgain

We are the Bourgain's from Littleton, Colorado and welcome to our "happy place"! We have been traveling to the Hawaiian islands for over 20 years. After spending time on all the islands we decided the Big Island was our favorite! It seems more laid back and to us more like we envision 'old Hawaii' When we take a beach vacation we always try to find properties where we can see the ocean from our condo and the pool. When we saw Banyan Tree it was the perfect fit!

Kim & Jon Bourgain purchased this condo in 2016

Why Kim & Jon Bourgain chose Kailua-Kona

We stayed at the Banyan Tree condos and were blown away by the views, the proximity to the ocean and how private it was. We also liked how it is centrally located on the Kona coast so it doesn't take long to go to the north or south end of the island. It's also right in the middle of many of the best restaurants, markets and shopping on the island. Now that we own Banyan Tree #402 we can honestly say we are even more impressed by the attention to detail that is paid to maintain and improve the property for the benefit of the guests.

What makes this condo unique

Direct Ocean Front. You simply can't stay any closer to the ocean. You won't find a more beautiful pool any closer to the ocean. This is an ocean lover's paradise!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely condo. The beautiful Pacific ocean is at your feet, the sound of waves lulling you day and night. We found a wonderful swimming beach minutes away - Magic Beach. We visited the volcano and watched as Pele threw lava in the air. The condo has everything you need with regard to cooking, beach towels, etc. It’s very comfortable, well located and felt quite safe. We didn’t use the AC, as the ocean breezes and ceiling fans kept us cool.

Owner's Response: Much Mahalo for the review Shelley! We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and that you booked a longer visit with us for next year!! Magic Sands beach is a wonderful beach that we often walk to. It is called "Magic" because at times during the winter the sand may wash away exposing the lava rock beneath. We added air-conditioning throughout the condo last summer but agree it is not always needed. We look forward to your next stay! Jon and Kim

Amazing views, beautifully decorated, well stocked

  • 5 of 5

Two of us stayed in this beautiful property for 12 days and were completely satisfied with our experience. The master bedroom and living room overlook the Banyons surf spot, a popular surfing area, and reputedly the birthplace of the sport of surfing. One of our daily delights was enjoying our morning coffee on the balcony while watching the surfers.

The kitchen is well stocked with equipment, dishes and cookware. The owners provided beach chairs, beach umbrella, coolers, boogie boards and more for enjoying the beaches. Internet service was great, and was sufficient to allow us to stream our favorite television programs. The decor was tasteful, and in keeping with the oceanside location of the property. We did not use the front bedroom, which faces Ali'i Drive, a very busy thoroughfare. That bedroom might be best suited for children or those for whom noise isn't an issue.

The owners are accessible and most helpful, and even helped us to sort out our ground transportation upon reaching the island after our rental car agency had closed. Their website is also quite helpful, with information about local restaurants and activities.

We visited many beaches during our stay, and our favorite was Makalawena Beach, which is about 4 miles north of the Kona airport. It's lovely, and sandy, and the surf is perfect for boogie boarding, but not too fierce for novices to enjoy. The website says it's inaccessible by vehicle, but if you take the turnoff between mile markers 88 and 89, directly across from the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery, you can drive all the way in. We also took a side trip to Volcanoes National Park, where we stayed overnight at the Volcano Village Lodge, a charming small bed and breakfast that we highly recommend! Spending the night in Volcano is really the only way to allow sufficient time to see this massive and interesting park. The drive from Kailua-Kona to get there is mountainous and winding, and would be unpleasant at dark.

Favorite restaurants were Jackie Rey's - about a mile from the condo, and Fosters Kitchen in "downtown" Kailua. We also enjoyed a couple of late lunches at the Kona Inn, with its ocean breezes and gorgeous view.

Our experience is the Banyon Tree Condo was exceptional. We couldn't have been more pleased.

Beautiful view! Super clean!

We had a fabulous two weeks at Banyan Tree. So grateful for the new air conditioning. We watched the surfers like it was our own private tv channel. We saw turtles and dolphins from the picture window. We would all definitely return again!

Owner's Response: Mahalo Marie for taking time to write a review! The recent air-conditioning through out the condo was a much appreciated addition for our guests, especially since there is no additional charge for use :-). We too find it difficult to leave the view from the condo to explore the magical island! The ability to watch surfers, turtles, whales (when in season), and the dolphins is awe-inspiring! I hope you were also able to see the tropical fish in the crystal clear water. We look forward to your return trip! Mahalo nui loa! Jon and Kim

Tropical Serenity

  • 5 of 5

We visited three locations on this, our anniversary trip: Ka'anapali Beach, Hilo and Kona. I'm so glad we saved the best for last. Banyan Tree Penthouse 402 is the perfect retreat, situated as close to the ocean as you can get. Beautifully decorated, this is truly a home away from home, with everything you need, including your own private covered parking space. We are so thankful to Kim and Jon for offering their cherished home away from home to visitors such as ourselves. We have been visiting this and other islands since the early 1980's, so we have seen many changes. We were just far enough away from the town of Kailua-Kona that we could avoid the crowded streets on our excursions. It's no surprise that this accommodation is frequently booked. Mahalo nui loa Kim and Jon. We hope one day to return.

Beautiful stay at Banyan Tree

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful condo. The instructions given were clear, informative and easy to follow. Coming and going was great. It was nice to have an assigned parking spot. Everything was great, maybe just get a long handled broom to make it easier to sweep up sand for those who have trouble bending. Was very nice to have beach things (towels, chairs, boogie boards) to use and not have to bring with us. Having a cart was wonderful to haul stuff up & down, and very thankful for the elevator for those who were unable to do stairs. That really helped make this trip enjoyable. It was awesome to have shopping within walking distance, the beach so close and churches close. Having a hot tub and pool right there was awesome.
