My husband and I had our 50th anniversary this summer and we took our family to see Yellowstone. The Moose house is a convenient 20 minute drive to West Yellowstone entrance. Henry's lake is close by for great fishing and horseback riding is available a few miles away. It was a really great house and perfect for our family of 15. It was very kid friendly, we had 7 grandchildren ages 5-11. All of us loved the house, it's big and spacious and well equipped with everything we needed. It's a state of the art house and very clean and Mike, our host was very helpful. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. There is a beautiful, slow moving river about a half a block away and a place to rent canoes very close by. There was a moose and her baby in the neighborhood which added to our enjoyment. We had fun around the fire pit at night. We highly recommend this house.
Beautiful house and excellent service!! Would rent again in a heartbeat.
The Moose House was perfect for our 18-person family reunion. The house has great meeting places, large enough for all of us to congregate and private, and more secluded places for sleeping. We had a group of 12 adults and 6 children. No one wanted to leave the house. We actually abandoned one day of Yellowstone activities just the enjoy the house and each other’s company. Basics - house looked exactly as pictured or beter. As others note, there are more beds and extra amenities not listed in the notes. We slept 18 in beds comfortably. Two of the Queen BRs also have a twin bed included and the master King suite had a full bed included. There are 2 laundry rooms, which were a necessity with that many people doing daily hikes.
The kitchen was incredibly well-stocked. All utensils and cooking needs were present and all storage spaces (drawers & cabinets) were organized and labeled.
Outside was a fire pit with four benches. We comfortably sat 12 and had several great nights making s’mores, hot dogs and singing around the fire. We had the ability to bring our own extra chairs, but that was not necessary. There are other outdoor deck or porch chairs that can move to the fire pit if you have a larger group. Wood was included but you will need to ask for a hatchet.
Claudia the owner was super responsive and very professional. Mike the property manager was also super responsive and very helpful on explaining features of the house and local rules. For example, we ran out of propane for the grill during our stay. Mike was there with a replacement in about 20 minutes. For those of you unfamiliar with bear country, Mike is a great resource both for safety practices and for local things to do.
One constructive comment to consider is that the house does not have central AC as easterners think of that term. Most houses in the Mountain West do not have air conditioning. Instead, you cool the home by opening the windows at night and closing them in the morning. This usually works well unless there’s a heatwave and lots of smoke from wildfires. We had both, but only on the first day. After the first night, the house cooled well and was a comfortable temperature for sleeping.
In terms shopping for groceries or sundries, there are good options if you are coming from the South or West. However, if you come from the North, your best bet is the Robin’s Roost right in Island Park. It was better stocked and better priced than anything in Big Sky or West Yellowstone
Moose Hoose fun
We loved staying at the Moose Hoose! We had our family of 15 with us and we were very comfortable. The kitchen is beautiful and large enough to cook together. The kids spent hours upstairs with all the games. We would definitely stay at this lovely location again.
Great Cabin and Location
Our family had a wonderful reunion. The cabin was clean and spacious, we had extra beds we didn't even use. Loved the kitchen and how it opened into the family room. It was only a 2 min. walk to the river where there was public access. The location was ideal and secluded in the trees. Thank you.
We had a wonderful stay at the moose house.
