About Dena Baysden

My wife, Wanda and I, chose this property for the unique location and the topography of the land. This property was originally owned and built by a local family in the 70's, who still live close by. My niece, Dena, saw the potential of this property and has made many upgrades through out the home. Dena will also handle your reservation needs. We are a water loving family and we would like to open our special place for others to enjoy.

Great alternative to a beachfront vacation.

  • 4 of 5

Just wanted to echo the comments of other reviewers. We recently completed a four night stay at Next to Nature and it was great! During our stay we enjoyed the quiet surroundings, swam in the Blue Lagoon, and went to Topsail Island every day (about 10 minutes to Bunny's). This property is a great choice if you want to GO to the beach, but don't care to be ON the beach.

Pros: Beautiful location, nice house. It is obvious that Dena has been upgrading the property and everything was in good repair, including a new pavilion at the Blue Lagoon. Pet friendly. House is nice sized, plenty of space for families to relax.

Cons: Mosquitoes were heavy. That was the only surprise.

Beautiful Cottage on a Great Property

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I live in the area, but we had some friends coming into town so we needed a place to house everyone and get out and enjoy the NC summer! Next to Nature was a great find for us, and I absolutely loved it! Had everything we needed to feed and sleep everyone while we were there, and in an absolutely beautiful setting. Now I'll just have to convince Dena to let us buy the house and the back 20 acres :) Will be back again for sure!

Wonderful place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

Loved this place! It is a great place to unwind and enjoy peace and quiet. Loved the screened porch and watching all the wildlife outside! We were able to bring our dogs , which was awesome, as they enjoyed the time also and we didnt have to worry about them back home. It is clean and well taken care of! A home away from home!! Close enough to pack a cooler and enjoy the beach everyday! ! Thank you for sharing your place with us!!! If we get down that way again we will definitely look next to nature up again.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

We rented Next to Nature for a 5 day Fathers Day weekend get away. What attracted us was that it was on a creek that lead to the Inter-coastal waterway and we wanted to do some kayaking. This feature was awesome! One morning while kayaking we came upon a deer in the middle of the creek. It was a great sight! The "Next to Nature" name is very apt as the creek/marsh area is beautiful. The home itself is nice, spacious and comfy with 3 bedrooms all with queen size beds. We went to the beach several days and it was only a 10 minute drive away. The home is tucked way back down a gravel road and like some other reviews state, we were a little nervous as there are some unsightly trailers on the dirt road, but there is a nice house at the end and then Next to Nature. We had no problems with our stay and enjoyed our stay. I would recommend.

Private getaway, perfect stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Next To Nature...what a perfect getaway! The property is really ideal for what we wanted....can't even see the nearest neighbor, yet only about a10 minute drive from the Surf City beach. The comfortable NtN house sits at the end of a private road, has plenty of property around it, and is directly on an inlet that leads, eventually, to the inter coastal waterway. We kayaked each day, went walking on the nearby Topsail Island beaches in the mornings and evenings, grilled dinner every night, and just generally relaxed. What's more, our young puppy had such a wonderful time, playing in the house, the yard, on the beaches, going kayaking with us. We couldn't have been happier! Thanks, Dena (and a great big thanks for the welcome bag of puppy thoughtful!)!

Great, peaceful getaway with friends!!

  • 5 of 5

Next to Nature lives up to its name. The cottage is off the beaten path 10 miles from beach along the river that takes you out to the Sound via kayak. It was minutes from grocery store and minutes from friends who live in Hampstead. My friends and I had a great time just relaxing on the screened porch overlooking the river catching up...we saw wildlife, but no alligators in the river and no sharks at the beach 😊򒠠Kayaking was great....we want to come back in cooler weather to try out the fire pit!!

The cottage is clean, well-maintained and Dana is very friendly and responds quickly if you have any questions or concerns.

If you want a peaceful retreat away from tourist, this is the place to go!!!
