We moved up to this beautiful area of New Hampshire 6 years ago from Central Massachusetts to "live the dream" of owning a home in the mountain region of this state. We have always enjoyed sharing our home with others and this seemed like the perfect time to open up both of our properties to those wanting to get away from it all and share in the beauty and tranquility we've come to enjoy on a daily basis!
After marrying in Boston and living in Cambridge where we raised our two children for 13 years, we began to sense we needed to move to the suburbs to buy our own home and begin enjoying some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We lived in Holliston, MA for 5 years enjoying our first home, then moved to Uxbridge, MA where our children finished growing up, completing their high school education and then they went on to college. After living there for 16 years, we took the daring leap and headed north while we had the opportunity to enjoy living our dream.
After working in a couple of local schools here in N.H. and realizing we never wanted to go back to MA, we decided to permanently settle here by purchasing our home here on the Connecticut River. Now we have the best of both worlds and can not only enjoy this lovely home but can also escape to our "mountain house" as we affectionately call it, to enjoy living off the grid in a more rustic fashion.
My husband has always been the "wind beneath my wings" and even though a die-hard Bostonian, he was willing to head out on the adventure of his life when he married me. We have truly lived the dream here in beautiful New Hampshire, and now it's time to share this with others.
Thank you for inquiring into staying on one of these properties,
Sue
Sue purchased this house in 2015
This property was purchased in 2015 because of it's location along the Connecticut River and because it offered seclusion, breathtaking views and quiet. In addition, this expansive home with its private 1 bedroom loft seemed like a perfect place to share with vacationers seeking a get away from the hectic pace of life at home and come enjoy the beauty, slow-paced lifestyle and serenity of the upper river valley region of NH, close to the mountains.
I have to say, standing on the porch and looking towards the river and mountains was awe-inspiring. I was also impressed by the expansive lawns and openness of the property and how nice and sunny it was here. Also, it felt so private and safe and a place that would bring peace to our lives. I was also excited about finally buying a kayak to get out on the river and explore this beautiful river, right at my doorstep!!
We are very thankful we found the waterfront loft in Monroe. The location was ideal with a lot of fun activities for the family in the area. The property was fantastic as we had the amenities of home and a beautiful view of the Connecticut River . Jeff and Sue the owners have done a super job of having a lot of extras like games, puzzles and outside fun stuff to almost make you want to spend all your time at the property. Place was plenty spacious for our family of four. Our kids had a great time playing inside and out. Icing on the cake was how nice the owners were and how easy they made everything from beginning to end. We would highly recommend this property and definitely plan to stay again.
This place is perfect! Sue had everything we needed. Place was very clean and felt like a home away from home. The "backyard" is unbelievable. Only wish we could have stayed longer! We will definately be coming back.
Everything was perfect and exactly as described! It was a great getaway for a few days. Located close to many places in both Vermont and New Hampshire. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again when back in the area! Thanks for a great first experience using HomeAway!
This is a nice little place along the river. The beds are fine and the kitchen was equipped with what we needed. It was very nice for Sue to leave us a map of the area with ideas for eating out and getting groceries. The nights are quiet. We even heard the loons.
My husband and I loved our quick stay at this property. The owners, Sue and Jeff, were very easy to communicate with and took the time to say hello and make us feel welcome. We loved having such a beautiful view of the Connecticut River to look at each day and we made good use of the fire pit and grill out back. The view of the stars at night is amazing! Something we don't often get to see from NJ. Unfortunately, we did not get to use their kayaks or do much exploring. Our stay was short, but was definitely sweet. Thanks again!!!
The property is as neat as a pin with a pIcturesque view.
There are an abundance of attractions within an hour or this location. The popular White Mountains of New Hampshire with the Wild Ammonoosuc River with it's covered bridge and swimming holes are very popular and only 20 minutes away. Littleton is just 30 minutes north of our location and this small town offers an abundance of shops, restaurants, entertainment, tourist destinations, and many popular convenience stores. Since we're literally on the Vermont border, just over a bridge brings you into the small towns of Newbury, Wells River, Barnet, Waterbury, Bradford, etc. all wonderful towns with country stores, 5 & 10 shops, antiques, restaurants, gas stations, second hand shops, etc. The town of Woodsville is only 15 minutes away and it offers all the convenience stores such as a super Walmart, Rite Aid, Shaw's, Ocean State Job Lot, pizza, Chinese, seafood, and other restaurants. Woodsville also has a fitness club, bowling, recreation center, and Haverhill Fair Grounds for the big agricultural fair in July. Bath Village boasts of a wonderful, newly restored covered bridge and small shops. Burke Mountain ski resort is only 35 minutes away for skiing and popular ski resorts such as Loon and Cannon are an hour away. Cross country skiing abounds in the area as well as snowmobiling and ATV use on the popular Corridor 10 recreational trail system.
