About this property
Cottage on a Lake. Near Pictured Rocks/ Munising
Down the U.P. backroads you will find this cottage on a unique peninsula of Thunder Lake. So much to see and do: Near Munising to go see Pic. Rocks Lakeshore (28 miles) and the waterfalls but also near Manistique to visit Big Springs (aka Kitchiti-kippi) a must see and it only approx. 10 miles) and Fayette State park. The Indian River is near and is a local favorite for canoeing or kayaking. Swim, fish, boat or lounge near the lake. Vacation of a lifetime. You will need several days!
Centrally located, Thunder Lake is in the heart of the Hiawatha National Forest, offering plenty of opportunities for those outdoor enthusiasts along with many other inland lakes for fishing, boating, hunting or swimming in the summer months. This cottage (also known as Camp Thunder Buck) is on the peninsula directly across from public boat launch. Bring your own fishing boat or use the one provided by us. Located within miles is Kitchiti-Kippi, Lake Michigan, the Indian River for canoeing/kayaking or travel 35 miles north to the Pictured Rocks to take a ride on the boat cruises, spend the day chasing waterfalls or hang out on the beach of Lake Superior. So much to do.... Please check back for updated pictures. We purchased this property 10/2016 and are in the process of many updates. U.P dirt roads and secluded back roads with limited service to get access to property... adventure awaits! Download maps ahead of time. Use GPS location: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and then follow road to end of peninsula. Cabin on Left! Thunder Lake The lake is 350 acres. Typical Fish Species Available: Bullhead, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, Yellow Perch Bait: Worms, Minnows, Artificial Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Boat Launch Boat Launch.
Entire house and lakefront.
We live in Munising and are a phone call away if needed.
There are neighbors...friendly neighbors. But you will have your own lakefront and privacy. The lake front for you to enjoy is a few hundred feet. There are kayaks, a peddle boat and a small rowboat for fishing. I suggest you bring life jackets...there are some available but I can't guarantee they are the sizes you need.
We want to be sure that our guests respect our neighbors space. We ask that quiet hours begin at 11 pm. No fireworks allowed. Munising is about 28 miles....approx 12 on dirt roads. Nearest store is about 12 miles and nearest restaurant is about 12 miles. I will send some maps when it nears the booking date. I wouldn't always trust a GPS navigator to get you around the UP back roads. There isn't always service and they are not always accurate. See our "sister" property CAMP THUNDER BUCK TOO! Book both at the same time for a family reunion or large group.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Great little place for nice family get away! My boys (ages 12&10) are obsessed with fishing so this was perfect and my daughter enjoyed playing in the water! My kids have already asked to go back here again next year.
Nice, clean cabin on a secluded lake. Paddle boat, paddle boards, kayaks, and small fishing boat included. Great place to stay. Owners are quick to respond to any questions.

Beautiful Lakeside Cabin
My family and I absolutely loved staying at this cabin!! It was very clean and comfortable with more than enough room for the 8 of us. The lake was beautiful and we spent a great deal of time swimming and using the kayaks and paddle board. The kids loved fishing right off the dock and ended up catching quite a few fish! This is honestly the best cabin we've ever stayed at and can't wait to go back next summer!!

Thank you so much for the great review! I love hearing guest's stories of what they had fun doing while at our camp. I hope you come again next year! You were perfect guests.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home was immaculate and included all the conveniences of home. The property is so beautiful. We took advantage of the kayaks, fishing boat, and SUP daily. During our stay, we did a lot of exploring in the area and it was nice to come back to somewhere so comfortable and relaxing. We stayed for six nights and didn’t want to leave! Jessie is a wonderful host.
Property is very remote. We were able to manage cell phone access but it is sketchy in places. Overall, if your looking for a little peace and quiet it is a great place for that.
I can’t say enough nice things about our stay at Camp Thunderbuck! We especially appreciated being able to use the fishing boat, kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boat. The lake is shallow in front of the house and perfect for the kids to play in that crystal clear water. The house was clean and comfortable and stocked with everything we needed. Fishing was good for panfish. We also caught several small pike and one pretty nice one. We would definitely stay here again.
The views at this property are stunning. You can see the lake from every room. There is easy access for kayaking and a fantastic great room and back porch for relaxing and enjoying the views. The property is remote, however, neighbors are close. Families can be heard across the lake and occasionally neighbors play music. Mostly, it’s quiet and peaceful. The bathroom in the house is updated. The master bedroom has an extremely comfortable bed. The kitchen is outdated and a bit confusing to navigate. The dining room table is large and you have views of the lake. It takes about 10 minutes on gravel roads to get to a paved road. Grocery stores and gas stations are about a 1/2 hour from there. You are mostly coming to stay and enjoy the property unless you don’t mind driving. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is about an hour north, but a very enjoyable drive. Big Springs is nearby and absolutely gorgeous! Don’t miss this, but go in the morning to miss the crowds. Also, Fayetteville Historic Park is really worth the hour drive, if you enjoy history. We enjoyed our visit and would stay at this property again.

A great place!
What a great week. There were a couple small “deltas”. The outside of the cabin and the yard are under maintained. Mossy, many spider webs. It took about a day to clean the deck, deck furniture, grill and spray the yard for ants. It Michigan, so mostly sand and a prime place for ants. The back yard was badly infested with ant hills. There would have been no way to be out there without spraying the yard first. Onto the great! They provide kayaks, and a small fishing boat to use. Corhole game. The small dock was great to fish from. Lots of space inside and a large deck. The lake was great for fishing and the kids swam every day. They caught frogs, turtles and crayfish when they weren’t fishing and swimming.
It’s about an hour drive from anywhere, and right at the end of a road, so very quiet and somewhat secluded.
It’s DSL internet but still worked surprisingly well for all four of us each with devices, even when streaming. Verizon worked decently right at the cabin and just outside.
The living room gave great views of the lake. It was so nice to wake up and sit in the living room every morning with coffe and enjoy that view.
If we visit the UP again I will be checking to see if this place is available.

Thank you for the "mostly" nice review. Although, I'd like to address your deltas. Being that it is a camp (as opposed to a home) ...in the middle of the woods...in the middle of the UP, you certainly have to deal with insects of all kinds, and mosses, especially, like you indicate...outside. You said there would be no way to be out in the yard without spraying for ants and yet, every other renter I have ever had, or myself and my own children, have never had any issues, so I don't agree with that. On the other hand, glad you enjoyed the other parts of your stay like the good phone service, internet, the lake and lake toys. You were great renters and would definitely rent to you again!
The rental process was smooth. The property has a great view with plenty of amenities for enjoying the lake. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.

Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy
Great location and place
Amazing location, and property but place needs a deep clean. Screens need replacement. The beds that had clean sheets worked out really well for our stay. Very comfortable. Air freshener was overpowering at first entry, but once aired out was fine. Back door slider didn't lock. Kids had a blast on lake, such an amazing spot. This could easily be a 5 star listing with a little work.
Beautiful lake and lovely home, quiet peaceful place to fish, paddle board and kayak. We had a great stay!

Beautiful home!
We loved our stay at Camp Thunderbuck! The beach was nice and shallow and the kids all loved using the kayaks and paddle board while the dads were out on the fishing boat. The decor was warm and welcoming and the home was very clean. All of the amenities we needed were provided and Jessie was very quick to respond with any questions. We would definitely stay here again!!

Beautifully updated and decorated spacious house, very clean and COMPLETELY furnished!
We loved it here! Waking up and looking out the full wall of windows to a gorgeous and peaceful lake was breath taking. We fished, we spent time playing board games outside by the lake, and took many adventures to Pictured Rock, Grand Marais, & Munising areas. Loved coming back after a day of exploring to grilling together on the back deck. It was so quiet and peaceful on the lake during our entire stay. This rental is completely furnished and beautifully decorated (and so clean). Thank you for sharing your home.

Wonderful Place/Wonderful Host
We spent a week at Camp Thunder Buck from July 5 through the 12. I can honestly say that the pictures on the website do not do it justice!! The house was extremely clean! The beds were extremely comfortable! The house/kitchen was furnished with everything we needed! They even supplied a small fishing boat, kayaks ,paddle boat and paddle board with life vests! The lake water was clear and clean and it had a sandy bottom that stayed shallow for a way out. It is the perfect place for small kids, teenagers, older adults...anyone and everyone! The host, Jess, was extremely easy to communicate with! She responded quickly to every message I sent her! She answered all of our questions before our arrival as well as the few questions we had upon our arrival! It was a wonderful week in paradise!! We would definitely return to Camp Thunder Buck if we ever get up to this area again!
