Are you looking for the perfect vacation? Do you need a place to unwind and recharge your batteries? We've got the perfect place for you. It is called Damselfly Cottage. This lovely cottage is located in the picturesque New England town of Sutton New Hampshire, population 1786. The cottage is charming with a romantic knotty pine interior, a wonderful screened porch to eat meals, play games, curl up with a good book on the day bed, or sit and enjoying looking at the lake. It is the perfect relaxing getaway, for vacation, honeymoon, 2nd honeymoon, or checking out the gorgeous fall foliage. The cottage is 10 yards from the water's edge. It is on one and one-half acres. The grounds are a magical and a wonderful place to create fairy houses. Would you like your own private dock, swimming area, hammock, and picnic area overlooking the lake? And how about lovely flower gardens, or a mediation bench to help you relax your body and soul? You'll sleep great on our cozy new mattresses. You can snuggle up to a fire in our cozy living room with a gorgeous field stone fireplace.

Sitting on your dock you will enjoy the loons, the blue heron. You will see the baby fish through the clear lake water, and your sandy swimming area, watch damselflies and dragonflies dance through the air. This lake water is one of the cleanest and clearest in the State of New Hampshire. If you like to fish, just throw out a line, you will most likely catch a bass, perch, pickerel, and sometimes even a hornpout, the fishing is excellent. You will also want to sit out on the dock at night and see the beautiful stars, in August the meteor showers. There are a rowboat, paddleboat and canoe for you to explore the lake. The lake is about 1/2 mile wide and 2 miles long.

The bathroom has a full shower and tub, and there is a nice heater to take the chill out when you need it. There is wonderful artesian well water to quench your thirst. There is a horseshoe pit for your enjoyment. If you just want to curl up with a good book, the daybed on the porch or the hammock will certainly do the trick. Besides your own private dock and swimming, area there is an additional separate sandy beach you can walk to which is own by the lake association. It's perfect for the little ones to dig in, or a great way to meet some neighbors, if you should choose.

The property is located just 30 minutes north/ west of Concord, New Hampshire, one and one-half hours from Boston, and less than an hour from Vermont, and only 45 minutes from the Manchester NH airport. It is close to New London, Bradford, Henniker, and Dartmouth. It’s close to the colleges Colby Sawyer College, New England College, Dartmouth College, and the College of Saint Mary Magdalen. It is an excellent base to enjoy local activities in the mountains, go to museums, antiques, golf, go listen to a variety of free music at the local gazebos, go to summer theater in New London at the Barn Playhouse or attend one of the many local summer festivals: the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s' Fair in August, events at The Fells in Newbury, the Fall Foliage Festival in Warner, Farm Days or other Events at Musterfield Farm, The Balloon Festival in Hillsboro, The Hopkinton State Fair etc. but most have found it is difficult to leave the lake as it is truly a "little bit of Heaven"!!

Wonderful place

The lake is beautiful, the cottage is very cosy and comfortable, the hosts - Carol and Al - are very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time swimming in the lake, going to the woods and just sitting on the deck watching sunset. I hope to come here again.

Wonderful stay!

Guest: Amy (Castle Rock, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 05/15/11 Review Submitted: 06/08/11

My husband and I had such a wonderful stay at this property. He went earlier than I did to meet his college age son to go fishing on the lake. They had great success and a great time. I came later and it was just wonderful. Carol was so helpful and lovely - she even found my beloved pearl necklace and sent it my way after I left. I especially loved kayaking around the lake and just sitting on our own private dock. Wonderful!

Owner response:We are so glad that we could host your reunion with your son and you could enjoy our lovely cottage with pristine lake and all it offers, kayaking, fishing etc. Glad your pearls got back safely. We hope to see you again!

Loving the Lake

Guest: Loonlover (New Boston, NH)
Date of Stay: 07/11/10 Review Submitted: 07/19/10

We loved being on this gorgeous lake during our hot July vacation. The water was crystal clear and you could see down to the bottom when the sun hit it just right. We got to hear the loons most every night, saw a great blue heron fly overhead and land in a nearby wetland, and watched turtles, fish, and otters swim. My husband's favorite pastime was kayaking, reading in the hammock, and sitting on the dock. My favorite was the swimming, reading on the sleeping porch, and sketching the gardens and the amazing lake view. The cottage itself was charming and spotless with lots of quilts and pillows, beautiful artwork of the lake's wildlife (many of them by the cottage owner), VERY comfortable beds, and newly renovated bathroom and sleeping porch. We did some site-seeing to The Fells, Hood Museum, antique and art shops, and restaurants -- all very enjoyable! -- but we made them all half day trips so we could spend the other half at the lake. The owners are super nice. If you want to unwind and relax, I would highly recommend this vacation spot!

My husband and I stayed in the cozy cottage the last week in June and the first week in July. We loved kayaking with the loons on the very tranquil lake. Carol was very helpful and has stocked the cottage with all the right things. Fourth of July on the lake was a real treat as everyone lit flares and several families set off fireworks. We loved our stay at Damselfly Cottage.

My family stayed at the cottage for two weeks in July of 2009, and had one of the most wonderful vacations ever! The house itself is clean, comfortable and very homey. We had 2 adults and 2 children, yet it was very spacious. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, and were always there to assist with anything, including the lending of lake "toys" for the kids. The lake is pristine, and the kayaking, boating and swimming is fantastic. Nearby, we found lovely biking and hiking trails. If you're looking for a wonderful vacation location, believe me, this is it!

We came to NH in late June looking for a relaxing get away and found it at Damselfly cottage. It was close enough to NH attractions for daytrips or we could just stay at the cottage to enjoy the peace and quiet. Blaisdell Lake provided peaceful canoing and atleast 1 loon. There were several good restaurants nearby if we didn't feel like cooking. Carol and Al were friendly and helpful. It was just what we needed.
