The house has been fully re-insulated, with new windows throughout. We have just added an additional bedroom with two twin beds. We are constantly adding comforts to the home as needed.

beautiful house but hidden problems

  • 2 of 5

We stayed here July 6-13. This is a special time when we get to be with both children and their families. The house is beautiful, wooden beams, wood paneling, gorgeous wood floors. And lovely furnishings. Here's what we didn't know, that had we known we wouldn't have rented. The furnishings are real tiffany lamps and expensive antiques. Since we had a 2 1/2 yr old and 3 1/2 yr. old , we would never have stressed ourselves out. worrying about an accident. The owner knew we were bring toddlers, we discussed not leaving them alone upstairs due to the open staircase they could tumble down. But no mention of the expensive items. The 2 1/2 yr old broke a lamp and half of our deposit (at this time), has gone towards that. The other half went for the doorknob, which fell off in our hands and the lock, which had been broken previously and fixed months ago. We were told the front door was difficult to open and we were very careful with the antique door, doorknob and lock, but it's over 100 yrs old, it's going to break eventually. This is just part of the wear and tear of ownership.

When we arrived, the pexiglass on the back door was cracked. The owner knew and had left it that way(they were there the day before we arrived) It ended up cracking apart and we had to fix it, because the sharp edges were a danger to the children. It wasn't a huge endeavor, just duct taped it, but why didn't they fix it before leaving. It could have fallen completely out with one big slam of the door(neither screen doors closed slowly because they were missing parts) . We were missing many instructions and the website was not accurate (they have since changed some of it only after having this pointed out ,) We needed the 4th bedroom, esp. since upstairs was the only space air conditioned, but it had ants. At no point were we offered help, tho' we spoke often.

I have rented through vrbo before, and never experienced any problems or concerns.

I see all the 5 stars, and I'm happy that others had a good stay. I just wanted others to know what our experience was in case it mattered to them. If not, hope you enjoy your stay.

Owner's Response: Sandy, We sincerely regret your stay did not meet your expectations. We remained 100% accessible to you and spoke numerous times during your stay. We took all reasonable steps to meet your needs. This is the first time we have ever needed to retain a security deposit due to damage of several items including a door lock set and dead bolt that was in full working order prior. We take pride in this home and advertise that there are antiques in this home. We regret that this was not a good fit.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place to stay in New Hampshire! The house was perfect for our needs, lots of space, well-equipped kitchen, lovely porch for relaxing (a deer went through the yard on our first afternoon!), and plenty of games, cards, and puzzles for entertainment. It was a short walk to the beach on beautiful Lake Kezar, and there are kayaks and floats available for use, as well as bikes for those who want to explore the area. We had a sisters' week here and we definitely plan to return next year!

Fun Family Ski Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My family of four and my cousin's family of five rented this home for a weekend in January. Before we arrived at the house, Chris was extremely helpful, providing detailed check in information with suggestions for shopping and eating in the local area. When we arrived to the house, we fell in love with interior decor:true craftsman style with custom kitchen cabinets, stone fireplace, antiques and furniture and artwork. At night we played board games in the comfortable living room in front of the fire with great views of the outdoors. Our kids enjoyed the ping pong table and personal space on the top floor. The kitchen was well equipped, making cooking a pleasure instead of a chore. In addition, the beds were comfortable, and bathrooms were all updated. The drive to Mt. Sunapee was 16 minutes. We will rent again for its location and more so, for the comfortable home that brought our family much enjoyment.

Beautiful home in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This was our second summer at this house. We love the home, especially the front porch, the yard and the huge play space upstairs. The location is amazing. We walked to the store for breakfast and treats every morning and to the lake every day for swimming and paddling. Honestly did not need or want to do much else while we were there. Our kids love the playground across from the store too.
