The pictures and description only begin to describe this charming guest house. With all the sites we wanted to see, it was hard to leave the house and the relaxing feel. Becky was so welcoming and we soon felt like a special family member. If you ever get to Cortez, the Brunk guest house is the only place to stay. Everything you need is there, charming decorations, amazing surroundings, spotlessly clean.....an all around feel good place!

We enjoyed our stay in the Brunk Guest House so much that we are seriously considering moving to the area. The house was perfect in every way. Becky and Don were great hosts and have provided every detail to make our stay perfect. Whether we were inside the house or outside, it was perfect for relaxing and enjoying all the beautiful plants, hummingbirds and scenery. Thank you for letting us stay in your home.

Every once and a while you find a place that far exceeds your expectations. This is that place. My wife and I spent 3 days here and agreed that this was one of the best values we have ever had on any vacation. The house was immaculate. Outside the door you were in the beautiful gardens and the hummingbirds kept us amused for hours. If I am ever back in this part of Colorado, I will rent this place again!!

As I told our friendly host, Becky, the pictures of this wonderful guest house can't convey how truly lovely it is. The house was immaculate, the amenities beyond expectation, the decor crisp, rich, and artistic. The rooms could be cozy or light-filled, as we desired. The mountain views and the gardens were spectacular, and two outdoor seating areas were provided from which to appreciate them. We've stayed in a number of HomeAway locations, from New York to Seattle, and believe this is our favorite so far. We didn't meet the dogs, but we did get visits from two cats, both of them extremely friendly and loving. If you have a penchant for hummingbirds, this is the place! I'd never seen so many, and could have spent the entire stay watching them come and go (and battle for supremacy) at the feeders. But Mesa Verde beckoned, and this is the perfect place to stay when you visit the Ancient Puebloan (don't say Anasazi!) dwellings, or any other of the many sites to be seen in the Four Corners area. Fresh eggs were generously provided, and the occasional rooster crow or hen cluck identified the source as near at hand. One of our guide books (somewhat cruelly) said that "Cortez fails to beguile," but we found everything we needed in town. It's not Telluride, it's not Santa Fe or Taos, and that's just fine. We had a good dinner (at Pepperhead - The Farm Bistro was closed that night), bought a camera battery, and filled our gas tank. Thank you, Cortez. And thanks to the Brunks for generously offering us the opportunity to share their little slice of paradise. We'd wholeheartedly recommend the guest house (and already have) to anyone visiting Cortez.

It would be impossible to overstate the charms of this wonderful house, the location, and the hosts. We have had the pleasure of staying at great locations ranging from Santa Fe to Jackson, WY, but this may well be the best. The combination of the quiet location, the beautiful views, the flowers, hummingbirds, and sunsets, and the great appointments to the guest house really make for a fantastic spot. Don and Becky are wonderful hosts, and Cortez is a great base for sights in the Southern San Juans and the 4 corners area. A delight in every way!

My wife & I stayed at The Brunk Guest House on our recent tour of Colorado & Utah. We feel that the best was definitely saved for last on our trip. The house was very clean & equipped with everything you need and more. The furnishing are first rate & the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed, we didn't even need our coffee grinder! The home is furnished with plenty of books, CD's & DVD's Sitting on the front porch in the herb garden watching the sun set over Sleeping Ute Mt will be something I will always remember, not to mention the view of Mesa Verde from the back patio. Becky & Don were always available if there was anything we would need, but we were left with our privacy at all times. We hope to make a return trip to the 4 Corners area in the not too distant future and I will be sure to stay here again, next time for a longer stay. We both feel that of all the places we have stayed in our travels, Brunk Guest House is the nicest one over all!

My 9-year-old daughter and I were doing our first trip "out west" and wanted a base of operations for a portion of it that could access the Four Corners. I found the Brunk Guest House almost completely by accident as I was poking around Trip Advisor looking for hotels. When I read the details about the place, saw photos, and noted price, I thought, "This is perfect! But there is no way they'll have availability..." To my complete shock and amazement, the exact dates we needed were open...no more and no fewer. As I titled this review, there is not much I can add here that hasn't already been said. Immaculate house. All the comforts of home. Beautiful vista. Excellent hiking area behind the property. Friendly but not intrusive owners. Fresh eggs from 40 feet away. Perfect base camp for exploring to the east (Mesa Verde/Durango, etc.) or to the west (Canyon of the Ancients, Monument Valley, etc.). I almost hesitated in writing this review because I don't want them to get too crowded for when I want to go back again! Seriously, run, don't walk, to this little slice of paradise south of Cortez.

This is such a cute place. It has so much charm from the wonderful smelling soap to the cute deck. Becky and Don really thought about how to make this a comfortable place for their guests. The fact that there is coffee, tea, eggs, jam and wonderful soap is fabulous. I needed a new toothbrush and they had one for me! Not only was the home great, but the sites around it were as well. We visited Mesa Verde and Hovenweep. It has been a wonderful stay here. PS: For all the sleeper sofas I have slept on, this is one of the best.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: We have lived in Cortez for 16 years (and Don has worked in Shiprock, just south of here for 23) and have always enjoyed the amazing views and light patterns on the mesa behind us and the Sleeping Ute Mountain to the west. We finished the guest house in 2006, doing some of the work ourselves including the tiling, copper fireplace surround, fencing and landscaping (an ongoing creation!) We love to garden and the courtyard and surrounding gardens are filled with bloom from April through October. We are originally from Virginia and have traveled and/or worked in a variety of countries including Korea and China, The Central African Republic and Haiti so you will find an eclectic and interesting assortment of items from these areas. The Four Corners is an amazing home base location for exploration of ancient Anasazi Indian ruins, hiking, Canyonlands and Moab as well as Durango and Telluride. We are more than happy to answer questions about things to do and travel times and think the house is a great way to share the beauty of our area. Come and see it for yourself! Becky, Don, Zach and Mali Brunk

The Unique Benefits at this House:
We are located just outside of Cortez and offer an excellent home base for excursions into the Four Corners area. On our 34 acres you have space to decompress and enjoy the beautiful gardens and views after your day of exploration or you can just curl up with one of the many books in our library. There is a canal behind our property just in front of the mesa which is great for walks and has excellent views of the Sleeping Ute Mountain, Lone Cone peak and the La Plata Mountains.
