Location: Cortez, Mesa Verde, Southwest, Colorado, USA (airport 6 miles, Durango 50 miles, Telluride 1 hr 45 min) View Map

Accommodations:  House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 3)

We are located just outside of Cortez, Co on 34 acres with spectacular views of the Sleeping Ute Mountain to the west and a large mesa leading to Mesa Verde immediately behind us. The canal behind our property is a great place for long walks with views of Lone Cone Peak and the La Plata Mountains.

The guest house was finished in 2006 and is very bright with large windows, walnut floors and a gas fireplace. Unique items from our travels are found throughout as well as colorful textiles and local art. The kitchen is set up especially well for those who enjoy cooking and the area has very good grocery stores and a summer farmer's market. The courtyard is filled with flowers and herbs and is a wonderful place to watch sunsets and hummingbirds. We see rufous, broad tail, and black chin hummers and during the high season there are dozens around each feeder with many others swarming in the trees. Fresh fruit (apples, nectarines, apricots, cherries and plums) berries and produce are also available from our gardens in season.

This home is perfect for those who are looking for a home base while exploring the Four Corners. Wonderful day trips can be made to Telluride and on the "Million Dollar Highway" which has spectacular and unforgetable views. Durango, Canyonlands and Arches National parks are also great day trips. It is very well stocked with local guide books, brochures and maps. We have lived in the area for over 10 years and are happy to go into more depth when needed. We hope you come for a visit!

Owner's Map of Cortez

We have lived in Cortez for 13 years and have always enjoyed the amazing views and light patterns on the mesa behind us and the Sleeping Ute Mountain to the west. We finished the guest house in 2006, doing some of the work ourselves including the tiling, copper fireplace surround, fencing and landscaping (an ongoing creation!) We love to garden and the courtyard and surrounding gardens are filled with bloom from April through October. We are originally from Virginia and have traveled and/or worked in a variety of countries including Korea and China, The Central African Republic, Haiti so you will find an eclectic and interesting assortment of items from these areas. The Four Corners is an amazing home base location for exploration of ancient Anasazi Indian ruins, hiking, Canyonlands and Moab as well as Durango and Telluride. We think the house is a great way to share the beauty of our area with others and we hope you come and see it for yourself. Becky, Don, Zach and Mali Brunk

    • We could not have been happier with our stay at the Brunk guesthouse. Becky and Don have thought of everything to make their guests feel welcome and taken care of, while still offering them as much privacy as they desire. The cozy cottage is beautifully decorated and the thoughtful touches, such as home made jam and a bookshelf full of reading materials, made us feel comfortable and pampered immediately. We loved the gorgeous views from every window, the locally made art objects, the secluded garden, the hummingbirds and the great movie collection. There is so much to see and do in this area, we only wish we could have stayed much longer. We are so grateful that the Brunks created such a lovely guest house to share with us.

    • The pictures do not do justice to this place. From the dogs greeting you at arrival,to the hummingbirds, the flowers, the scenary, the decorating, the ambiance -- incredible. All with home made jelly! And a most comfortable bed. We have highly recommended this place to all our friends. Outstanding and cheaper than a motel. The Brunks and children are wonderful hosts who make you feel special and right at home. And with all there is to do here, what could be better. Be sure to ask Don or Becky about John Sutton's wines! Another plus.

The Brunk Guest House is an exquisite, well thought out place to stay; ideal for a couple who want to rest, enjoy cooking dinner in the well equipped galley kitchen, and possibly visit, as we did, the Mesa Verde National Park. Everything that could be needed has been thought of; there's a secluded garden to sit out in and a comfortable living area from whence to sit and watch the sunset on the Ute Mountain or watch TV. • My family and I celebrated Thanksgiving 2008 at the Brunk Guest House. We were extremely pleased with the cozy atmosphere, the beautiful location, and the welcoming property owners. The cottage was full of very unique elements, including a nice selection of movies and music, an extensive library, complimentary teas and coffees, and a chalkboard listing the time and location of local farmers' markets. We felt very much at home, would definitely return, and fully recommend this vacation rental for anyone visiting the four corners region.

    • Don & Becky, Kerry, Audrey and myself really enjoyed staying in your guest home. The house is so comfortable and you really thought of everything a person could need or want. The dogs and the cats were awesome. We really felt at home. The views were beautiful as well as all of your flowers in the gardens. It was a real pleasure talking with you and we plan on coming back in the spring. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to meet Don. Your grape jelly was delicious!! Thanks again for your hospitality! See you in the spring!

    • We had a wonderful stay at the Brunk's guest house. The house is new and very nicely decorated with a southwestern flair. Coming back to the guest house after a day of touring was very relaxing and just what we needed. We were on the road for 14 days and the Brunk guest house was the nicest of all of our accommodations! Many thanks for a wonderful stay! Jim & Jan Thompson

    • Hi all, We stayed with Don & Becky Brunk in their Guest House for 4 nights in mid August 2008. Wow!!! What a great place! The highlight of our trip! The guest house is a fantastic location and is close to Cortez. It provides spacious, very well equipped and tastefully furnished accommodation. The Brunk's have thought of everything you could want for a superb stay and if its not there, then they are happy to help out. Becky's little extras are especially appreciated by the ladies and provide a really welcoming feel. We were fortunate enough to get to know the Brunk's a bit while we were there and they are a great couple who are interested in people but who also respect your privacy if you don't wish to "mix". Beautiful scenery and only minutes from all the best spots such as Mesa Verde (approx. 45minutes), 4 Corners Monument (approx. 20 minutes) etc but the guest house is a wonderful retreat which gives a degree of sanctuary by providing a very quiet and relaxing "home away from home" after a day on the tourist circuit. I could go on even more but suffice to say that I can't recommend this guest house highly enough. Great place and great people. Give it a try, I'm certain you won't be disappointed

      Homeowner Response:
Just FYI - the entrance to Mesa Verde is a 20 - 25 min drive from the cottage. Then it takes another 20 minutes or so to get to the visitors center. Thought this might help. Becky

    • Accomodation was great, plenty of room, excellent facilities. Location for us was ideal to allow both visits to the desert and mountain regions of Colorado and Utah. Really enjoyed the personal touches by Becky and would recommend you pay a visit to this house.

    • My family and I had an absolutely wonderfuly stay at the Brunk Guest House. We all enjoyed all the 'extras' that are in the Guest House, like the brochures, list of restaraunts, farmers markets, etc. This made it very easy form my family to be able to plan out our day because we had a lot of information. All the instructions for the DVD player, remotes, what a great idea!! It is very well put together. I loved the convenience of a kitchen and washer and dryer. Our family took advantage of the DVD's that were there. I cannot express how nice the Brunk Guest House is and I have already mentioned it to all of my friends. I hope to soon be able to go back. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.
