This is an incredible home. We chose it for its close proximity to Nye Beach, some space for our 10 month old, the hot tub, and the feeling we got when viewing the pictures. While it may seem excessive for a couple with one child to rent a three bedroom house, it was more than worth it to us. Instead of feeling contained in a hotel room or town home, the home felt so open and welcoming that it was hard to leave even on the gorgeous bluebird days we lucked out in having during our weekend visit. And while we drove to the aquarium, Bay Street, and Agate Beach, we spent most of our time walking to the little shops and on Nye Beach. Couldn't have asked for a better location - next to everything while still enjoying the privacy of being a block off the beaten path. The house is also extremely well stocked - you could cook a Thanksgiving meal without bringing a single kitchen tool! A couple small cons - The hot tub isn't as hot as we would have liked (couldn't make it any hotter) and extremely chlorinated. And for those that like to sit down to meals as a group, you'll need to sit outside at the larger table on the deck (weather permitting) as the only table inside is squeezed into the kitchen area and is pretty darn small for any group larger than four people. Otherwise, people can squeeze at the kitchen table and along the kitchen counter. Not bad, just good to know. Be forewarned - This house will spoil you and make it hard to leave!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are very happy that Cameron's family had a good visit to Nye Beach and enjoyed Cornelius House. We hope they will return, as they were terrific guests! Just a couple of comments to address the two drawbacks Cameron noted: We use bromine in the hot tub, which is less abrasive than chlorine, and keep it at the setting required for "commercial" use, because the hot tub is used by many guests. We take water samples to the spa experts in town and keep the chemical balance at their recommended levels. Guests can simply open the cover of the hot tub and let it air for 30 minutes and the bromine level will drop dramatically. As for the temperature, we leave the tub at 102 degrees, and set it to cycle every four hours for maximum cleanliness. Occasionally, in attempting to increase the temperature, guests inadvertantly push the wrong button and change the setting as well, and end up with it set to "economy" which holds the temperature at 95 degrees. We are sorry our guests didn't call us so we could walk them through the very easy steps to return the hot tub to its standard setting, which would have allowed them to set the temperature as high as 104 degrees! With the dining table extended in both directions, six can comfortably sit at the table. We provide only six dining chairs for that reason. Groups of eight find seating four at the counter and four at the table to be the best distribution of bodies.

A fantastic three nights in Newport. Loved the gas grill, hot tub, view from the windows, and many other amenities. The sun came out long enough to get some Vitamin D! Thank you very much.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for opening up your home to us during our extended stay here in Newport (November to January). It has truly been our home "away from home". So beautiful, comfortable and inviting. We hope to make Cornelius House our home again during future visits to the Oregon coast! Thanks again, for everything.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a perfect restored and remodeled guest house! We enjoyed a beautiful, tranquil weekend with our daughter and her husband and one+ year old son, who, under constant vigilant eyes, loved exploring with wonder. Your attention to detail is amazing. Thank you for providing a perfect, easy-to-adjust-to coast getaway home and for the nice hot tub and BarBQ deck.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had wonderful time exploring the Oregon coast! Saw a whale up close (dockside charters Whale Tail Cruise), enjoyed a dune buggy ride, and hiking through a redwood forest. The house has more than enough room for two couples. We especially appreciated the fully stocked kitchen and the pool table! Comfortable chairs and couches throughout the home made our stay more enjoyable. Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A wonderful home! Everything was perfect and comfortable. Great location for walking to beach, restaurants and shops. It was the perfect getaway for us. We do this trip once a year with friends from Texas and we hope to be back next year! So great to be in a house where things are impeccably clean and everything works! Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: We own and manage two vacation rental homes in Nye Beach - Cornelius House and Nye Beach Overlook (VRBO 99677). It is a source of joy to provide clean comfortable homes in the best neighborhood in Newport. Come stay with us and enjoy all that Nye Beach has to offer.
Why the Owner Chose Newport:
We fell in love with this wonderful old house when it was for sale in 2004. We peeked in the windows, saw the original stairwell and knew it was for us. In 2007, after renovating the home (leaving the original stairwell!), we decided to share it with others. We hope you will love it as we do, and appreciate its great location, its classic foursquare lines outside and all of its luxurious amentities inside.
