Events of September 11th and United's bankruptcy caused me to take an extended (five-year) furlough from United Airlines' Paris base so I went home to San Diego and started renting my Paris apartment. That was the beginning of my vacation rental business and I never returned to United but I do return to Paris!
This 650 square foot one-bedroom apartment has the privacy of two bedrooms at the cost of a Studio apartment! The living room door closes; and occupants of each room have access to the toilet, bathroom, and kitchen without disturbing the others (important for when you first arrive and jet-lag makes for irregular sleeping hours).
There are extra long twin beds in the bedroom and a very comfortable, double-size, fold-down couch in the living room. (that's where my husband and I always sleep). The bathroom has a big soaking tub and a shower. Like all Paris apartments, the WC is separate from the bathroom so if anyone is taking a long shower or bath, others can still use the toilet.
This fifth-floor condo apartment has a modern elevator big enough for several people and their luggage! The all-glass living room wall opens wide onto a private balcony overlooking center gardens. It sits way off the main street so it's a very quiet location!
The Paris Apartment: There is absolutely no city noise.
The apartment is light and sunny -- with a view of lovely Victorian buildings. There is lot of closet space (rare in Paris) to keep the apartment orderly. There is a full-sized washer and dryer for doing laundry so pack light!
Everything you'll need to cook your own gourmet meals is provided. 'Go French' -- and get fresh food at nearby 'Poncelet', one of the largest daily outdoor markets in Paris. Or if you prefer a US-style grocery store (with peanut butter, cereal, etc.), Galleries Gourmand is also nearby.
My quiet, nicely furnished apartment has everything you'll need for a comfortable vacation, including an extensive library of guide books and maps of the city, metro, and bus system as well as books on culture, language and fiction/non-fiction books centered on France.
The Local Neighborhood: Enjoy an excellent neighborhood and a prestige apartment building on safe, upscale Avenue des Ternes -- close to lots of shops, bakeries, grocery stores and restaurants. Get fresh croissants and baguettes at the excellent boulangerie just down the street. Owner is American with French pastry-chef husband. Shop at Poncillet outdoor market, daily like the French, for fresh fruits and veggies, seafood, roasted or fresh chickens. I provide wheeled grocery carts.
This apartment is conveniently located within five minutes' walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe Charles de Gaulle Metro station -- where metro lines #1, #2, #6, and the RER-A will whisk you quickly to anywhere in the city.
Metro line 1 is the main tourist line, #2 will take you up to Montmartre and Sacre Coeur, #6 goes directly to the Eiffel Tower in two stops/4 nimutes.
RER-A's first stop is the Opera House Garnier.
Nearby Port Maillot has RER-C to go directly to Versailles.
Bus route 43 stops right in front of the apartment and will take you to my favorite, Musee Andre-Jacquemart. The 92 route is just a short walk.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at Nancy's place in Paris. My wife and I were in the bedroom and our oversized 15 year old was on the futon couch--all beds were quite comfy. We started each day early and returned back exhausted by 6 in the evening. We brought our favorite coffee and made a full breakfast in house, had lunches out and luxuriated in some sinful gourmet food items and the best french bread(imagine that!)picked up in the local shops for light dinners (we really couldn't handle the late dinner time in Paris). With the weak dollar, Nancy's place was a godsend considering the price and size of european hotel rooms. The place is equipped with everything you might need, though I do recommend you bring the latest guidebook with you as those available in the apartment are dated. Overall, not a glamorous place, but incredibly practical and a true bargain for the budget conscious. I enjoy upscale stays too, however those interested in glamorous will be spending much, much more.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 9/11

I was excited to stay here, most the reviews were glowing. But upon arrival, it was disappointing. First, we were given the wrong codes for entry to the building and for the elevator. It was really hard to be understanding, after 14 hours of traveling, for such an obvious oversight! We had to stand in the cold waiting for a kind soul to trust us and let us in the building. I was rather surprised at the condition of the apartment. It needs a deep cleaning and a lot of attention. The rug in the bedroom was filthy, wallpaper peeling off the wall, holes in the walls where nails had been and a horrible stench in the kitchen. I was shocked no one else mentioned these things in the reviews then I noticed all reviews were over 2 years old. It would be nice if they had a book in which travelers could write recommendations for others. ie: tours, restaurants, etc. There is a small notebook giving directions to grocery stores but that's about it. Great location and with some attention, this apartment would be really nice.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My mother and I are checking out tomorrow (4/21/10) and I couldnt rave about this apartment (and the owner) enough. 1. Booking was very easy - working with the staff associated with this rental was very straightforward, clear and professional! Once we were booked, the guide we received for how to get to the apartment and access the keys was very clear and helpful. 2. Place is great - very comfortable and lots of thoughtful extras that are useful to borrow (a few electric converters for those of us who forget them, paperbacks, tour guide books, maps). All instructions on how to use anything in the apartment/access nearby markets are very clearly explained and neatly organized. The apartment is well located - a quick walk to the metro and the start and finish of the Paris Marathon (which was one of the reasons we chose this apartment) 3. A shelter in a storm: our departure was supposed to have been 4/16, unfortunately the Iceland volcano eruption delayed our departure by 3- and then 10- days. The owner and her team extended our stay as much as they could with just a quick email exchange. The free wifi and international phone service from the apartment were such an amazing a convenience for all the calls and communication and rebooking that needed to occur when things dont go as planned. To sum it up, the place is great, the location is great and the owner and her team are great! When I come back to Paris I will stay here!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

"It was so refreshing to have a convenient, clean and comfortable apartment to come home to. The door and elevator codes and the double lock system on the apartment door are great for safety. Nancy and Karla were always available to answer questions. Nancy has thought of everything and the apartment rental price is very good value considering the size, convenience and cleanliness. The apartment has maps and tour books and a great reference binder. Having a fully stocked kitchen, lots of extra blankets and electric heaters is great, and we loved the bath, which is quite uncommon for Paris. The hot water is in great abundance since the plumbing is new. It was great for a short stay, but would be fantastic for a longer stay since the kitchen and living room are a good size and there is even a washer /dryer combination in the bathroom. Having free access to calls in Europe and NA would make it easy to plan your next stop in Europe or keep in touch with family back home. The apartment is walk-able to the Arc de Triomphe, where you have access to many of the local tours and city buses the famous Champs Elysee shopping and Lido cabaret. There are many good reasonable restaurants to choose from both on ave MacMahon plus many options to pick up really good prepared food locally on ave des Ternes. The neighbourhood is safe and clean, and the local people are friendly since they live there. I'd avoid the mall in the Congress Centre, but the tall oval La Concorde hotel is a great landmark if you get turned around while walking home. I would take advantage of the many retail outlets along des Ternes though and the street markets for fresh fruits, vegetables and cheeses. Des Termes has all the conveniences of home, including the major electronics department store FNAC where we bought a camera card and a Sony store that recharged my camera battery. There is a good balance of reasonable stores including the large local grocery chain Moni Prix and small boutiques, even one selling Longchamp bags at the same price but better selection than Le Printemps and Gallery Lafayette! The steak house around the corner on Pereire is great - full of friendly locals and even the staff is friendly and efficient. The steak & frites is the only option, but the wine is good and reasonably priced plus the deserts are fantastic. I recommend the profiteroles, of course! I'm planning another trip to Paris already and hope Nancy's apartment is available. IDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7

Nancy's apartment filled the bill for a great Paris vacation. We felt very safe in this area and were able to walk to the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysee and Napoleon's tomb. Trains and metros were readily accessible to go to Versailles, Montmartre and other attractions. Restaurants in the neighbourhood were good and reasonably priced. The apartment was a good size compared to other Paris apartments we looked at. A good grocery store was very conveniently located.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+.

We loved the apartment is Paris. It was easy to find and close to the AirFrance bus stop from CDG airport. Nancy gave us clear information on how to get to the apartment from the airport and Metro. Krystyna, the housekeeper called shortly after we walked in the door. She was very friendly and very helpful with some moneysaving tips for transportation on the Metro. She told us about the Carrefours market a half a block away. (tip: weigh and mark your produce before you get to the checkout or they will refuse to sell it to you and take the wheelie cart that Nancy has provided by the door to the apartment because they won"t give you grocery bags!) Nancy was awesome in providing the comforts of home away from home. This was our first trip to Paris and we couldn't have been in a better location. We would stay here again. Thanks to Nancy and Jeremy for your help in accommodating our special issues to help make this wonderful trip happen!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7

This is a great place to stay in Paris. I t's so comfortable, this is my second time using it. Access to the apartment is easy, both from the airport via the Air France bus and inside the building via an elevator so luggage is no problem. Nancy has thought of everything a guest could need to be comfortable from lots of linens to lots of guide books to Paris, for walkers, foodies, shoppers, etc. Enjoy!Did you find this review helpful? Millions of tourists visit Paris each year, but few experience the Parisian lifestyle. Staying in Nancy's apartment for two weeks in September 2009, we were fortunate to do just that. The apartment was cozy and met our every need. The neighborhood was safe and the shopping, corner cafe's and the Metro were close by. A terrific experience and we look forward to returning and would highly recommend staying in Nancy's apartment.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

We loved Paris! We arrived from London to Paris by train and were whisked away by cab to Nancy's apt. Everything was perfectly situated for conveniences and transportation links. We lived like Parsiens, we walked, biked and used the metro. Every morning we would indulge ourselves with fresh baked pastries and fruits from the nearby bakery and open air market. In front of the wall display of the metro system,we would plan our daily excursion. Everything was thought of. Fans and windows were adequate. Security was not an issue for us. The apt's home office was complete with a library with a desktop and printer. As we would not return to the apt until early evening, we enjoyed our soaking in the full-sized tub. We benefitted too, in having the toilet seperated down the hall. The pullout sofa was sooo comfortable for a grown couple. We enjoyed the long summer nights! We were never in bed before midnight. There were some great restaurant finds in close proximity! As this was our first trip to Paris, I would commend Nancy and Jeremy's personal attention to every detail. I have rented from them in the past and will continue to do so.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

My husband and I stayed in Nancy's Paris apartment for seven days August 2009, and found it to be very comfortable. Nancy has indeed taken care of everything that one might need while at a "home away from home". The location was wonderful with an exceptional Italian restaurant a few doors down and a great steakhouse across the street. If we're ever in Paris again, we would certainly stay at Nancy's.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: I was based in Paris working as a Purser/Flight Attendant for United Airlines for 5 years. After 9/11 I took a voluntary furlough and came back to San Diego and started renting out my Paris apartment to vacationers. It was such fun interacting with people, especially those going to experience Paris for the very 1st time! But I enjoy talking to the most seasoned Francofiles, too. I was hooked and started my own Vacation Rental business in San Diego - NancysVacationRentals dot com. Now I have 50 rentals but still take the time to return to Paris twice a year to 'check on my property.' Someone has to do it! I'm happy to share my local knowledge with you.
Why the Owner Chose Paris Arrondissement 8:
Describe why I bought a place in Paris? Are you kidding? It's the most beautiful city in the world and you would NEVER run out of things to see and do! Plus it's so fun to explore other parts of France after a week in Paris.
