  We spent 10 days in El Sargento and truly enjoyed our stay at the casita. It was peaceful and beautiful. Fun time snorkelling, kayaking, and fishing. Great meeting Wilie too.

  Just got back after spending 12 days in wonderful El Sargento! There were nine of us (4 adults, 5 kids) and we had more than enough room with renting the entire house. Since this was the tail end of kiting season, the beach where the house sits was mostly abandoned during our time there. Well, except for the dolphins and whale and multitudes of fish and birds that hang out in the area. We had a lot of fun cooking our own meals in the upstairs kitchen (all the groceries you will need are down at nearby Oscaritos), hanging out on the beach in the comfy beach chairs, kayaking, snorkeling, and enjoying the feeling of truly being away from it all. The house faces almost due east, so the sunrises were absolutely spectacular - the sun rose right out of the water each morning. I meant to count the number of steps it takes to get down to the beach - but forgot - it's sooo close. The house is clean and in good shape. The fans and the A/C units (when needed) kept us nice and cool inside when it was baking outside. We had the guys at Palapas Ventana pick us up right in front of the house one morning to take us on an adventure over to the island that sits 10 miles off the beach. I HIGHLY recommend you look into this. We started the morning fishing crystal blue waters and pulling in several good sized yellow snapper (as well as a trumpet fish, needle fish, lady fish, and a skipjack tuna). We then hit an empty beach and did some amazing snorkeling. Our guide plucked scallops off the sea floor and we had the freshest ceviche you could ever get. Depending on the tide, the beach can be just a titch rocky right out front - but you only need to walk a short way to find pure sandy access to the water if that's your cup of tea. Everyone in the two towns - La Ventana (the one with the paved road) and El Sargento (the town with the dirt road) were extremely friendly and helpful. We tried out a bunch of the local restaurants and never had a bad meal. You're about six minutes (depending on the condition of the dirt road) from El Sargento and a total of 10 - 12 minutes from the main part of La Ventana. We would definitely come back here and definitely recommend you consider staying here.

  We had so much fun in La Ventana. We had no intention of taking kiting lessons, but seeing them all dance over the water was inspiring enough to lead us in! Willie and Carol's house was a perfect retreat for us. With two young children, we would wake up each morning and watch the sunrise over the sea, do yoga on the beach and take the kayaks out a few times for a morning paddle. There is a coral reef just off the shore from there house where we snorkeled out for some great views. We even saw a whale one day while we were there! Willie and Carol took great care of us, helped us learn our way around and set us up with some great contacts for diving and other activities. We'll definitely be back!

  We had a great visit to Ventana and it was greatly due to our accommodation. Beach walks and kayaking at your front door. Beautiful location. Dolphin and sunrise watching on the deck. We stayed upstairs which had plenty of room for the two of us and would be great for 4. Kitchen was well stocked. The downstairs suite looked good too. The care taker was very friendly Our friends went kite sailing just out front and several others were sailing just 100m away. We took our lessons at Baja Joes. We recommend taking the wave runner lessons if you only have 10 days like we did. Also, note the water is cold and we're Canadian! Bring a full wet suit. Hot showers on site so you can warm up quickly and enjoy happy hour. I tried fishing out front as you could see the fish everywhere. The fish we ate came from the fish market down the road which is a tiny room, so look carefully. Clearly go for the fresh catch of the day. Great location and we had no problem accessing steep driveway with our little rental car. I'm not sure if you are permitted to have a dog here, but there is a great fenced yard. We would absolutely stat here again!

  I came down for 14 days in January of 2013, This was my second visit. The two bedroom apartment was was ready and waiting. Clean and organized. TV, Radio and phone were added benefits. Good beach access for diving and fishing. Pongas will pick you up on the beach. Too cold for swimming this time of year. The owners were very nice and accomadating. I enjoyed them and their friends and family. Randy

• Perfect House on the beach

  We just got back from a week of Kitesurfing in La Ventana. Instead of cramping with other kiters at the obvious places before town we opted to rent a house that was perfectly placed on the beach and many miles upwind from the action. The house offers everything one can want and need in Mexico. It was fun to cook and hang out on the balcony and just look at the ocean in front of the house.The silence during the day and night lets anyone forget that there are other people on this planet. The beaches in front and all around were just beautiful and prompted us to walk along them and take in the beauty that this place had to offer. What a perfect GETAWAY.

  I spent a week with my wife and children in this wonderful home (top floor). Loved the location being on the beach, maybe 100+/- yards to the water. Originally, thought I would want to be closer in town but being the last house on the beach was awesome. You are still close to services. Kids played on the beach, mom read, and dad kited. We alternated eating at restaurants and eating in. It was February so the weather was a perfect 80 degrees, water still a little cold but not bad. We loved the deck and really appreciated the beach toys (kayaks, paddle/windsurfing board). Internet signal worked and my US cell phone worked too. We hope to make it back again and would recommend this house. Dave & Jenny

  This is a little piece of paradise. We spent two glorious weeks in June basking in sun, reading on the deck, watching flying stingrays and flocks of pelicans, kayaking, running, sipping margaritas. It could not have been more relaxing and full of fun. And the owners could not have been more helpful and responsive -- from scheduling a snorkeling/fishing trip, massages and housekeeping to making sure the drains run quickly. NO question or request was too small or too big for them. They were singularly focused on making it our best vacation ever. The house is spectacular -- beautiful views from every room, comfy nooks and corners for reading, sleeping or just goofing off. Late June was hot - hot - hot, but we were content to veg during the high noon heat. Toward the end of our time, the jellyfish and man of wars showed up - but other than that - our time could not have been more perfect.

  We rented the whole house with family friends - four adults and four kids total. It was wonderful with more than enough space. The house is beautiful and comfortable and has everything you could need. The owners are incredibly helpful. We used the kayaks which were stable enough to take our four year old on - saw flying fish, a (small) shark, dolphins, and a whale! Willie helped arrange for us to rent a Panga for the morning and we went fishing and caught a 45 lb. Yellowfin Tuna that was as tall as our 7 year old. We loved being right on the beach. Kite boarding was excellent. If we come back to La Ventana, we'll be coming back here.

  My husband and I stayed at Casa Vista Cerralvo from Jan 25 to Feb 17, 2012. Two thirds of that time we were upstairs in the house and the last third in the casita on the lower floor. Though the living space on the upper floor is about twice the size of the lower, the casita was more than enough for the two of us. From the pots and pans to the beds and bedding, everything was first rate. Even the beach towels were nicer than the ones we have at home!! So nice to open a drawer and find every utensil you could ever want. (Having stayed at several Rental by Owner properties in the past, sometimes their "bare bones outfitting" doesn't even cover the necessities) Who says there are no bathtubs in the Baja..Carol has a huge one set right into the kitchen counter upstairs! (No, Carol, I didn't climb in :)) The location felt "remote" enough to be private..you could dash on on the deck in the nude to grab your dryng swimsuit without feeling risque. Yet groceries and restaurants are really only minutes away by car. Being able to kite from right in front of the house was a huge plus. And when we looked down the Bay to the South we were always happy that we weren't kiting in the crowds down there. The outdoor shower was a heavenly place to stand and strip off the wetsuit. Seeing, in person, the location of some of the other houses we'd considered we were especially happy with our choice, being away from the dust and noise of cars bumping along on the "main road" thru town. Incredibly starry nights, the only sound as we lay in bed being that of a barking sea lion, a huge yellow moon rising up off the water just beyond our toes as we reclined in the deck chairs, margaritas in hand. Still mornings watching the dolphin pod and their water ballet, seeing the wind line on the ocean creep towards us and knowing that another perfect day of kiting was coming our way. This was one sweet vacation and staying anywhere else, we can't imagine it would have been this good. Local recommendations: Happy Hour margaritas at Las Palmas, ceviche at Adelina's, live music at Los Banditos or Baja Joe's (root beer float..yum!), buy your pound of ground coffee at Freak Dog Cafe, plan lunch and your bread shopping on a 30 min, excursion to "the bakery/pizzeria" at El Triunfo. We heard the Chinese food restaurant (!!) at Los Planes is worth the little drive but never made it..something for "next time".
