Property description

Remodeled and updated 3,500 square-foot Incline Village home (not a cabin!), right across the highway from Lake Tahoe, and convenient to all north-shore ski areas, plus Burnt Cedar, Sand Harbor, and all north-shore and east-shore beaches. The home, at the intersection of Highway 28 and Lakeshore Drive on the western edge of Incline Village, sleeps ten people in beds (plus a couple more on futons) and boasts wireless Internet and many other amenities.

Of particular interest are the four large gathering spaces: the great room, the living room, the 'club' room, and the game-room/family suite at the back of the garage. Everybody gets a space!

• Large living room with filtered lake views, gas fireplace, seating area, ping-pong, and foosball
• Big family room with gas fireplace, wide screen TV with DVD/VCR, card table, and lots of books and videos
• Attached game room/family suite with pool table, large TV/DVD, dart board, queen bed and two twin beds, and full bath—perfect for a fourth couple, or as a teenager retreat
• Fully equipped skylit kitchen with granite counters and eating bar adjoining a large dining-entertaining area to make a “great room” that’s perfect for entertaining—and that features a cozy wood stove and easy access to the deck
• Custom, handmade dining table seats eight, with five more seats at the kitchen bar; comfortable leather chairs encourage long evenings of conversation, cards, music—whatever suits your fancy
• Big deck with flitered lake view, large hot tub, and big gas barbecue, sunny private patio in back
• Master suite with deluxe king bed, TV/DVD, and spacious private bath with twin sinks—plus easy access to the deck and hot tub
• One queen bedroom and one twin bedroom (two twin beds), with a full bath to share
• Game-room suite built off the garage, with one queen bed, two twin beds, and full bath--plus a full-size pool table, TV, and DVD player. Total beds in our home: 10.
• Off-street parking for five cars, plus boat/jet-ski/snowmobile trailers
• Mud room for paraphernalia you don't want in the house: beach gear, skis, snowboards, boots, and the like
• Big lawn area in front for bocce, Frisbee, croquet, playing catch—even sledding! New bocce court installed, fall 2014!
• Quiet, unobtrusive, on-site caretaker in a studio apartment off the garage (see photo for studio location): he lives in Truckee, and although he rarely sleeps in the studio, he works in Incline and will help you with anything you may need related to the house and its features.

Incline Village is a premier winter destination, and our home provides great access. Here's why Incline Village is so wonderful in the summer:

BEACHES: Incline Village is the hands-down winner for enjoying the lake itself. The town really shines in the summertime, and winter beach walking can be wonderful. In summer, the water is warmer on this shore than anywhere else on the lake, and the many beaches are sandy and kid-friendly. Sand Harbor is five miles south of the house, on 28. It has easy parking, a boat launch, and a pristine, lifeguarded, boat-free, swimming beach. It costs about $10.00/day to park. Another option is residents-only Burnt Cedar Beach, about a 10-15 minute walk on Lakeshore Drive from the house. We will provide you with a pass upon request; cost is about $7.00 per person per day. Burnt Cedar features a large swimming pool, a sheltered cove for swimming in the lake, and a large lawn with picnic facilities, swings for the kids, and lots of room for throwing the Frisbee. Farther along Lakeshore Avenue is Ski Beach, also for residents and guests with passes, with a big boat launch and a wide, sandy beach.

SKI AREAS (you can always hope . . . ): Our house is within a half hour or so (depending on weather and traffic) of all the major north shore ski areas: Squaw Valley, Alpine, Northstar, Homewood, Mount Rose. Access to the highway is excellent, as we are at lake level and have yet to be snowed in. There is an excellent sledding area up Mount Rose highway 431 (which runs to Reno, about 45 minutes); it’s on your left, right near the summit, and takes about 15 minutes to get to from our place. This is also a staging area for snowmobiles (across the highway on the right, away from the sleds—so bring ’em if you got ’em). Finally, don’t overlook our own backyard resort, Diamond Peak. It’s about 10 minutes, door-to-door, from our house, down 28 a couple of miles at Country Club Drive. It has excellent, albeit not many and not terribly long, runs, with good variety (groomers, bumps, trees, terrain park) for all skill levels, including expert (great on a powder day). It’s rarely crowded, and there’s a high-speed quad to the top, so we typically get more “vert” in a day there than at other places, even Squaw, since lines are never long—if they exist at all. The terrain park is a good one, say our snowboarders. Diamond Peak is also quite inexpensive, especially compared with the large resorts. Lake views from the intermediate-level ridge run and the mountain café are truly fantastic, perhaps unrivaled. Beginner instruction can be found at all areas, including Diamond Peak, but is especially good at Tahoe Donner, outside Truckee, about 45 minutes from the house. They have broad, beginner/intermediate slopes and a nice terrain park; it’s inexpensive, almost never crowded, and the teachers have been good over the years.

BIKING: There is a beautiful biking trail that goes right along Lakeshore Drive, just across the street from our house. There are many miles of biking trails up here, aside from just this little local one, including the famous Flume Trail, plus expert terrain for mountain bikers, and if you visit Village Ski Loft, they’ll put you on to them; they have a great bike shop, staffed by enthusiasts.

GOOD EATS! The Hyatt at Incline has a restaurant on the water, Lone Eagle Grill, that is beautiful, and the food is good. It’s down Lakeshore Drive, about a mile and a half from the house. If you want to sit on their outside terrace on a nice day, plan to get there early. Also in Incline, we recommend Austin's, a village institution for many years: good down-home food. Nearby Kings Beach features Caliente! an excellent, neo-New-Mexico restaurant, with unique, really delicious food (the sopapillas for dessert are incredible). Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay is one of the good restaurants on the north shore—a 20 minute drive from the house, and well worth it. In the same area, Spindleshanks is also good, and a bit closer. A bit farther along toward Tahoe City in Lake Forest is Bacchi’s Inn, a legendary, family-owned Italian place that’s been in business for nearly 70 years. The Cabin in Kings Beach is excellent for breakfast, as is The Old Post Office in Carnelian Bay. There is only one good pizza place in Incline (in our opinion) and that’s Mofo’s, in Christmas Tree Village center, on your left, heading for Raley’s. In that same complex is Asian Noodles Too, a really fine Vietnamese/Chinese noodle joint with reasonable prices and a friendly owner who really wants you to enjoy your visit. Finally, Soule Domain, a fine, Zagat-rated dinner restaurant, is only about five minutes away in Crystal Bay. It’s a log cabin with just a dozen tables or so and is reasonably priced, considering the truly excellent, SF-Bay-quality cuisine. Highly recommended!

Incline Village is probably the most 'deluxe' community at Tahoe, with many multi-million-dollar homes on the lake shore owned by wealthy individuals. (Larry Ellison is building an entire shoreline complex as this is written.) The town features private beaches and a boat launch and is located in the lake's 'banana belt' where the air and water are warmest year-round.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: We live in the Bay Area. Our Incline Village home has been in the family under one owner or another for nearly 30 years. Since acquiring the property we have made many improvements to what is a comfortable, full-size house in one of the best communities on the lake. Our home was built as a year-round residence by one of the Incline Village founders, so it most definitely is not a 'cabin.' You can expect all the comforts of home here--because this house IS a home. The home is full of books, board games, videos, and personal decor--including a collection of fine oil paintings featuring Laguna Beach, where Scott spent summers as a boy at The Ark, a historic family vacation home. (He'd like to call our place Ark of the Lake, but so far hasn't prevailed upon the rest of the family.)

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Lakeview:
Incline Village has always been our favorite location at the lake: far from the busy South Shore and close to our favorite places, such as North Shore kayaking, beaching, and skiing.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
At about 3,500 square feet, this is a large house, so it's good for larger groups while still providing privacy when you want it. We find it to be very tranquil. Diamond Peak skiing is literally ten minutes from our door, and Burnt Cedar (short walk) and Sand Harbor (easy drive), plus a few secret places we like, are easy and simple to get to for summer lakeshore fun. And good dining, from casual to quite fine, is just minutes away.
