My daughter and I stayed in this flat from August 6th through August 13th, 2011. The location is terrific and the size of the flat is perfect for 2. We thoroughly enjoyed the area and the many little shops located on the nearby streets. Brian is a very gracious host, who met us at the train station upon our arrival, showed us around the neighborhood, and gave us many suggestions as to restaurants and points of interest in the Marais district. I recommend this flat for a delightful stay in Paris.

The best neighborhood in Paris

What an amazing location! First of all, Brian is exactly the kind of 'owner' people love to meet! Talk about going the extra mile! Helpful & had lots of wonderful advice (neighborhood (and Paris in general)! He really researched Paris before buying this & chose it specifically because of the location! Lives in London; visits Paris regularly and wanted a great spot! Bingo! Walk out the door and you are in the heart of the Marais! Fantastic restaurants (there are 2 within a short block of the apartment that have been written about in another great resource "Hungry for Paris" (guide book written by a former food editor of Gourmet magazine and his suggestions are AMAZING) but keep this a secret as well :) back to the neighborhood, the best flower shop ever (all roses)! The best bakery EVER! Prepare to wait in line at certain times of the day! incredible fruits, cheeses, roast chicken and potatoes at several markets! Location location location! AND the apt. is directly across the street from the oldest covered market in Paris (with crepes, cheese, meats, etc)! Brian has lots of guidebooks in the apartment, & sent us a detailed email about neighborhood. The apartment is perfect for a couple with up to 2 children or 3-4 adults. There is a very comfortable sofa bed in the living room which cozily sleeps 2. The toilet is separated from the bathroom (works well for privacy). There is a tub and shower in bathroom (love a tub after a long day of walking!) The apartment is large by Paris standards, with nice big rooms! Cheery & bright, windows across the living room and bedroom! You do hear a bit of street noise when the windows are open (which we love), but it's LOVELY street noise.. He is on a tiny side street, steps off a main street (where you will find the most wonderful shops EVER). There is a washer in the kitchen which is great for doing small loads of laundry.. PS This is the best $ deal in Paris! I hesitate writing this, because honestly, once people find out about it and this location, it will be booked forever. Please feel free to contact Brian for my email, happy to give more details! Brian lives in London (he's English) and honestly, being able to communicate in English was a huge bonus for us non-French speakers! His upstairs neighbor is also fluent in English & was incredibly helpful if/when anything is needed. Very comfortable and delightfully decorated! We loved it and can't wait to return!

The best little spot in Paris

Even better then described, in the absolutely BEST neighborhood in Paris. Very clean and very safe. The owner was very helpful and kind. The property exceeded all of our expectations and was very adorable. My Wife and I had the best time here and will definitely be recommending this property to all of our friends and family. This was my first time to Paris and I am so glad that we ended up here.
Owner response:Some people think I'm crazy to let a property that is full of mid-century antiques but I really enjoy having people who enjoy it. I bought the flat because I found hotel rooms in Paris just too small and I wanted to live in a part of Paris where real people live too. The cafes and restaurants and designer shops of this gently gentrifying neighbourhood are a great introduction to the Parisian lifestyle. Come back when the Picasso museum re-opens next year or maybe it's better without. We never knew that a former head of Dior lived just around the corner but maybe the fact that Christian Lacroix designed a hotel nearby and a shop called Merciwas voted one of the trendiest spots in Paris might give you a clue to some of the local attractions.

I'm amazed there aren't a string of great reviews, perhaps people want to keep it to themselves? We loved this place. It's charmingly decorated and looks exactly as it appears in the pictures, we though it was good value for money. The location was particularly good for us because we had visited Paris before and wanted a hip neighborhood experience. It's well located for the metro and the Republique stop has several line which made it easy to get around. We walked a lot but often took the metro home. Nearby there are lots of small boutiques, restaurants, cafes, bakeries and a cheesemongers. At the end of the block there's a lovely covered organic market with fruit and veggies as well as prepared food stalls. We found it useful to have the kitchen (well stocked) and even used the washing machine as we had been traveling for a while. Brian, the owner ,was very helpful and offered concierge style suggestions, we spoke to him by phone and met him at the end of the stay. He's a charming chap. He suggested a wonderful architectural walk from one of the books in the apartment (Time Out Walks in Paris) and we took him up on the suggestion, excellent advice. We paid a deposit by Paypal and he mailed the key. It's a little nerve wracking but everything worked perfectly, there was even coffee in the refrigerator! Enjoy, I just hope it's available when we want to go next!

The location is very good and the rooms are nice and cozy. On top of that landlord is very kind. He gave us a brief look see trip around the apartment on the first day,so we came to know good restaurants, bakeries and wine shops and so on.
