We had our family gathering at Alvy's Hideway. There was plenty room for everyone. The property is located near some wonderful attractions (even in the winter). We enjoyed some great hiking and access to the State Park facilities. The house was clean and very well stocked. We would definitely consider coming back again in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My extended family, 3 generations spent 3 nights at Alvy's in November. Even though there were 14 of us including teens and a baby we never felt crowded. The two large rooms up and down allowed for football viewing and yoga simultaneously ! Even though it was off season we enjoyed hiking in The Land Between the Lakes, Barkley Lake State Park and the use of the rec center. The kitchen is well equipped (better than mine at home) which made cooking for a group possible. Great spot for reconnecting with the family and enjoying the outdoors!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was the perfect place for our family reunion--lots of bedrooms, big kitchen for cooking, two large common areas-- great for a large gathering. Plus, there is a lot to do in the Lake Barkley area. We'll come back!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

The house was roomy enough for a family reunion. However, the lake is not a swimmer friendly lake. We ended up using the State Park pool. Lake Barkley is more a fishing/boating lake. There was such a steep walk down to the lake and back up that it discouraged most of us from using the lake most of the week. The playground equipment was nice for young children but there were wasp nests inside the slide and under the children's swing. The AC unit just didn't cool the upstairs with a large group of people eating and visiting together. The coolest the thermostat registered during the evening hours was 77degrees. And we never used the oven. This was a good gathering spot for us as we were physically active and used the Fitness Center and had enough room inside the house.Did you find this review helpful? Large family reunion (26) was held at Alvy's 7/27-8/3.....couldn't have picked a better spot. House is very spacious....with beds for everyone. The kids loved the bunk room. The fishing was outstanding. Easy access from Nashville/Paducah airports. Really appreciate the attention given to our group by the property manager (Pat)...extremely helpful the entire week. We'll be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

Two years ago we spent a week at Alvy’s Hideaway and it was great (see my review above). We just returned from a week there and it turned out to be fairly disappointing. The general appearance on first arrival just wasn’t the same – very dirty exterior in the front and porches around back - cobwebs and spider webs everywhere – nothing a little pressure wash wouldn’t clean up. We had lights that didn’t work, and lights without bulbs; a broken toilet seat; no stoppers in sinks; the door latch on the door to the main level back porch did not work (children and adults had a very hard time getting in and out); the ice maker didn’t work (lots of trips for ice). The highlight of the week was when the air conditioner went on the blink and stayed on the blink (about half way through our stay) – temperatures of 86 in the evenings on the main living level. Overall impression was that the place had been let go – to run down on its own. For what the family paid for a week at Alvy’s Hideaway the place should have been pristine and everything in working condition – it wasn’t! We were a little disappointed!Owner response: As the owners, we were disappointed to learn about these maintenance/cleanliness issues ourselves as we take the upkeep of the house very seriously. We are consistently making repairs and additions to not only maintain but improve the quality of the house and dock for our guests. In fact, all of our income from the property has been put back into the house regularly. Unfortunately, we had poor management of the property over the past couple of months and the tasks that must be completed were not being done, which we were not aware of until this week. We have switched management (since this guest’s stay) and all of these above complaints have been addressed - we have installed a new air conditioner and furnace, repaired the sinks, toilets, doors, and ensured all light fixtures have new light bulbs. The ice maker has also been repaired. The house exterior/decks will be regularly pressure washed/cleaned like it previously had been done. We had never received negative reviews (via email, phone, or on this website) prior to this past month and we hope under our new management, we will return to only receiving positive reviews. Our goal has always been for our guests to have perfect, relaxing vacations without any hassles with the house and to view our house as a home away from home.

My visit to Alvy's Hideaway was more pleasant than I expected after viewing the website. Everything that anyone needed for a very pleasant visit was in the home. There were more utensils, pots, pans, etc., than anyone would ever need even if providing provisions for a small army of hungry vacationers. You will have everything you need to cook if you choose. The home was exceedingling clean. There were a multitude of games, interesting books, and magazines. The beds had really great matresses and soft, just right pillows. The bathrooms were very clean with plenty of hot, soft, water with good pressure. The Lake Barkley area has more than enough sites to visit for a week's stay. The Lake Barkley Park Lodge has a great buffet and you must go to nearby Grand Rivers to dine at Patti's Settlement Restaurant. Drive throught The Land Between The Lakes and view the buffalo and elk herds. One big, old buffalo came right up to our car and we got a close up of his nose. Jim, who takes care of the property is a really nice guy and will see that your visit is without a hitch. I checked five stars only because six wasn't one of the choices.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We just spent a week at Alvy's Hideaway. It is not a lake cabin - it is not a lake house - this is a lake home!!!!! The photos do not do this place justice. We were part of a large family gathering, and there was plenty of room for everyone. If you tire of lake activities and just want to lounge around the house, you'll feel right at home. It is very clean and very well kept. We were all impressed with how beautiful this place was. Very highly recommended!!!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
