loved the yurt. We can in late evening. dusty road, howling rabbits, a line of stars that streak through the sky, cold crisp air. Inside the yurt was warm, beautiful and functional. We woke up to the morning light. Hood River was about an 1hour and 20 drive, and I think it was a fun day excursion. I wish we had more time to spend just relaxing at the Yurt. It's a total get away from civilization if you like, but inside you have everything you need if you want a drop of reality. I love the Yurt and I was happy with John (he saved us! when we had car problems). I would love to go back someday and melt away in nature.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks for the kind remarks. I drive from Hood River to the yurt several times a week, I have found the average driving time is about 50 minutes.

The yurt itself was awesome. Loved the view, the coyotes, owls, and other birds. The kitchen was nicely stocked w/ cooking supplies, and the bed was so comfortable. The place was not that clean, however. The dishes had to be re-washed, the hot tub was too dirty to use, and the pool had green algae all over the bottom. And yet we paid a 65.00 cleaning fee?? Also, there were no washcloths or hand towels. Except for the above, I still enjoyed the privacy, serenity, and being there. I would recommend this place to a friend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: The hot tub was cleaned and refilled, unfortunately the filter disintegrated into small particles during this guests visit, it has been replaced. The temporary above ground pool does collect some algae, however the water is clean and pure, it has now been completely scraped of algae, I prefer not to use toxic algaecide. The hand towels and wash cloths have been replaced.

Absolutely loved it. But bring fans or a portable a/c if your going in August, luckily we did. The mister on the deck was an added bonus. Nice pool, free to let it all out. The wifi has an excellent signal. Nice water pressure in the shower, fast dryer too. This yurt is on steroids. We saw a deer and her fawn every day and a huge owl checked us out. Yes the road in is kinda rough but its level and worth it if you really want to get away. Nice bar with pool tables and food in Lyle opens at 4:30. Not too far to get to The Dalles where there's no insane tax on liquor, stock up.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This yurt was the perfect place to escape to when it was one the hottest weekends in Portland! The space is thoughtful and well put together. We had everything we needed and never had to leave. The spring fed pool gave us reprieve from the heat and the yurt was so quiet and sweet to stay in. I would recommend this place to any of my family and friends!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway.

The owner, John, was very friendly and easy going. The yurt was everything it promised to be and more. It was very clean and comfortable- from the bed to the surround-sound TV! Our dogs enjoyed romping in the meadow and lazing around on the decks. The views were incredible, and the place had a feel of remote wilderness, although you could see some other houses on the distant hilltops. The stars at night and the birds all day were especially wonderful.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had never stayed in a yurt before. This one is absolutely georgeous. Very comfortable. It far exceeded our expectations. It was easy to find. It was very clean. It has a dishwasher, nice plates and glasses and wine glasses! The owner was very helpful in answering all our questions. I would recommend it to friends. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub. We drove around taking in the scenery. We weren't real sure about where we could walk and where we couldn't. We had a very memorable, relaxing weekend. The high prarie is beautiful! Oh we also saw deer right out in the front field.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We spent a wonderful weekend at the High Prarie Yurt. The accommodations were fantastic and the views were spectacular. We'd never stayed in a yurt before and this one exceeded our expectations. Everything we needed for our stay was provided and easily accessible. The property owner sent very explicit instructions with all the "how-to" information we needed. The only caution I would add is that the road to the property is very rough. The one mile from the main road to the property was a little jarring in our low-clearance Prius. In a truck or SUV the road would be easily navigated. I recommend this property for anyone seeking a rustic setting along with very comfortable and modern ammenities.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: As a Gorge resident I enjoy outdoor sports and activities year round.
Why the Owner Chose Hood River:
The site is private and remote. Great for weekend getaways, but close enough to feel connected to the social side of The Gorge. The 20 acres includes a seasonal creek, dirt bike or ATV track, archery range, hiking trails and picnic areas, a stage and is great for events, parties, music and weddings.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Relaxation is is the feeling I come away with after staying at the yurt.
It is great to explore the woods, enjoy the hot tub on the deck, watch a DVD, listen to music or read a good book in a comfortable chair, then sleep well on the Tempurpedic Queen Bed. Wake up refreshed and ready to take on some Gorge activities.
