Neighbourhood Insight: At once a quaint and bustling neighbourhood, the 4th is jam-packed with shops, cafès, small museums and some the oldest architecture in Paris. A walk though it’s ancient maze-like streets is an extraordinary way to spend the day.
Explore the Place de Vosges, Paris' oldest square, and the Place du Marche Sainte Catherine, an incredible oasis that feels just like a Provence town square. Let rue Vielle de Temple lead you into the heart of the Marais, once the centre of the city's Jewsih community, and now home to legendary falafel spots like Chez Marianne and L'As du Falafel. Wander down the rue Saint Paul - a darling street filled with antique dealers, artisan galleries and bookshops - and just off it, the Village Saint Paul, a hidden treasure of interconnected courtyards.

The famous Marais neighborhood has everything you might need minutes from the apartment. Right outside is the famous Place des Vosges and many fantastic bistros and cafés open 7 days a week from 10am until midnight. A fabulous fresh markets is right on your doorstep twice a week!
In pour neighbourhood, you have a fruit and vegetable stand, newspaper shop/Tabac, florists, fishmonger and two bakeries. There are also two supermarkets within 5 minutes. The public transportation is very convenient - closest Metro stations are Breguet Sabin, (Line 5 12 minutes from Gare du Nord) and Chemin Vert (Line 8). There are roughly 8 bus lines leading all over Paris within a 5 minute walk.
An influx of new art galleries paired with arrivals on neighboring St Claude, and firmly anchored by the established, larger dealers (Thaddaeus Ropac, Emmanuel Perrotin, Yvon Lambert) a few streets away has made what was already a cool quartier, almost toxically trendy. Le Progrés, the café which used to be the preferred place for all the local artists, art dealers and fashionistas, while still retaining a portion of its deliberately scruffy clientele has been somewhat overshadowed by a new bastion of chic, the Café Charlot.
Check out the new galleries, innovative design and clothing shops, and then head over to Café Charlot. Pick one of the low tables with the comfy armchairs, bring a book, doesn’t matter which one- you won’t be reading it, like Karl over his fan you’ll be surreptitiously peering over it, to check out one of the best impromptu fashion shows in town. Trés cool, trust me.

About: Scottish expat Susie Hollands, lives, works and breathes Paris. For the inside scoop on who’s hot and where it’s at in Paris, Susie’s your go to source of inspiration. Susie’s passion for Paris is evident, and she loves sharing it. Susie launched a Paris magazine for expatriates – also called VINGT Paris– featuring interviews with the people of Paris, art, culture, beauty, food and lifestyle. Juggling the demands of motherhood and different business ventures is a challenge in itself, but to have achieved so much in Paris is all the more impressive.
From an early age Susie loved Paris, and like many a Francophile, she was a frequent visitor to the city, harbouring dreams of one day living the Parisian life, soaking up the atmosphere surrounded by magnificent architecture.
