Great divers' accomodations!
Great divers' accomodations!
Beacon Harbor is a great place to stay, especially for divers! Loved the outdoor shower and rinse tank for dive gear, and the hooks to hang the gear to dry. Loved that we could keep the gear outside and not worry about it being stolen. The house is literally right across the street from the beach. The beach was not quite the lovely sandy beach I had envisioned, but there was sand, and lots of coral pieces! The view from the deck was blue sky, turquoise blue water, and palm trees! I loved the layout of the house, and found it very roomy for two or four, although I think six might have been a crowd. Very quiet location - 1 minute drive to the nearest market, and 10 minutes drive to Brac Scuba Shack. Found the house well stocked with kitchen stuff, and plenty of towels, sheets. Bed was comfy! I missed having television to watch, but hubby was happy not to have it. We did have some difficulties with plumbing - not affecting the most important thing - the toilet! Trouble getting warm water in the shower. Had a bit of a leak from the ceiling. The property manager, Van, was awesome, easily available by phone, and dealt with issues promptly. The tenants in the other side of the duplex were very quiet. The rate for this rental as amazing, totally reasonable, especially considering some the the outrageously priced alternatives on the island. Beacon Harbor is no luxury villa, but it is cosy, comfy, well equipped, convenient, and well priced. We would certainly stay there again! Cayman Brac is not a HOLIDAY kind of atmosphere like you might expect in Cabo or Grand Cayman. Cayman Brac is a very small community, no tourist shopping really - not like Mexico. There are a few markets - groceries are brought in by barge once a week, so shop for produce on barge day! There is a doctor/chiropractor who did 2 good adjustments on me. It is a lovely quiet community of locals living their daily lives, and tourists who are mostly there to dive. Diving is wonderful. We did over 25 dives each during our month stay. Saw reef sharks, nurse shark, eagle rays, sting rays, turtles, morays (one came up and rubbed my thigh!), friendly groupers and a goliath grouper, and many varieties of colourful reef fish. Water is so warm - around 80 degrees - we are used to cold water diving at around 45 degrees! I didn't even wear a wet suit for most of my dives, just my gear and bathing suit. Overall, a great place for a quiet diving/snorkeling holiday, at Beacon Harbor!

Fun in the Brac!
Fun in the Brac!
This duo of super clean homes made our stay on the Brac a fabulous experience. Both divers and non-divers were in our party and all enjoyed the island atmosphere and 'right out your front door' swimming, snorkeling and diving. The kitchen is huge and well-equipped. Below each house is a half bath and shower perfect for rinsing off the sand before entering the home. Excellent rinse and hang area for the divers in the group. Brac also has some quaint food establishments with excellent food. Diving and snorkeling is world class. This was my third time to stay at Beacon Harbor and I hope to return soon!

We stayed there because of the easy access to beach diving the North side. Beacon Harbor is set up for diving and it worked out just great. It is a short walk to the water! I will go back.... Beach Diver

Brac Dive Trip
Brac Dive Trip
My wife and I have been vacationing in Cayman Brac for years now and our choice for destination accomodations is Beacon Harbor. We are divers and Beacon Harbor suits our needs to a tee. The location is secluded but convenient to grocery and other island infrastructure. Although we usually use Reef Divers for diving, several shore dive sites are right out the front door including the main night dive location, Radar Reef. Beacon Harbor allows us to even bring food from the States and do our own cooking. We just enjoy the feeling of being in our own home and not being forced into a daily schedule that comes with the resorts. The two bedroom condo is ideal for 2 couples and even a 5th guest. Although we rarely have a question or problem the caretaker is not far away and a quick phone call will usually solve the situation. Although the Brac is primarily a scuba divers delight, Beacon Harbor is also an excellent destination to just relax and unwind. If you want a clean comfortable accomodation in the islands, you will not be disappointed with Beacon Harbor.

About the owner: My name is Morris Boughton. Spending time in the ocean became my favorite pass time, beginning in the mid 1960's, and has continued to this day. Good fortune in my professional life allows me to pursue my hobbies, which include underwater photography and fishing in the pacific and the Caribbean sea.
Why the Owner Chose North Side:
In 1994, I began toying with the idea of having my own piece of paradise. After spending 3 years of active looking in Hawaii, Costa Rica, and the Cayman Islands, I selected Cayman Brac. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman make up the 'Sister Islands'. Only 5 miles separates them. More than 100 pristine reefs surround Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Little Cayman's 'Bloody Bay Wall' ranks in the top ten as most desired dive destination. Beacon Harbor consists of two homes. We are located just east of Stake Bay on the North Side of Cayman Brac. We are situated next to the water on a secluded 4 acre tract of land.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I bought the land. I built the homes. I built the homes to my specifications. Beacon Harbor is located on the sheltered side of the island, which offers shore divers and snorkelers calm seas most of the year. Beautiful reefs are found directly in front of the homes. I built the homes for comfort and privacy. In addition, I built them with divers, snorkelers, and fishermen in mind. It is only fitting that the Cayman Islands rank among the Top Ten Dive Destinations in the Caribbean. The consensus top 10 Caribbean dive sites are itemized below. These top Caribbean dives are listed in no particular order at all. Where you choose to do your diving will depend on what type of venue or characteristics you desire. Each dive site has been briefly defined with regard to its unique attributes. Here are the top 10 dive spots in Caribbean: Where to dive for the best chance of seeing smaller tropical fish? 1) Bonaire 2) Bloody Bay Wall, Little Cayman For 'most colorful and abundant' corals and sponges the top spots are: 1) Santa Rosa Wall, Cozumel 2) Bloody Bay Wall, Little Caymen 1) Salt Pier or Carl's Hill Annex, Bonaire 4) Green Outhouse Wall, Roatan, Honduras 5) Lighthouse Reef, Belize The most famous wall drop-offs, or best wall dives are: 1) West Caicos Island- Turks and Caicos accessed from Providenciales 2) Columbus Passage, Grand Turk & Salt Cay- Turks and Caicos 3) Caymen Brac, Cayman Islands 4) South Wall- Turks and Caicos accessed from Providenciales 5) Little Cayman Island, Cayman Islands 6) Grand Cayman Island, Cayman Islands (East End & North End) 7) Sandbore Channel- Turks and Caicos accessed from Providenciales 8) French Cay- Turks and Caicos accessed from Providenciales 9) Cozumel, Mexico (Santa Rosa Wall) 10) Blue Hole & Lighthouse Atoll, Belize
