"Strolling around the Canal Saint-Martin, notice that you are in one of Paris' more secret, lesser-known neighborhoods. There is real old-village charm here, electrified by the influence of young designers, artists, and musicians who've made the area their stomping grounds."

The apartment is in the 10th Arrondissement, just steps from the trendy and romantic Canal St. Martin. It is a 4th floor apartment, oriented east and west with an elevator.

The apartment is charming and bright, with lovely oak floors. The building is a classic, pierre de taille (the "upscale" facing material used in the early 1900's).

Rue Lucien Sampaix starts at the Canal St. Martin, a still working canal which has been turned into a perfect outdoor park and public space. The streets bordering the canal are turned into pedestrian only thoroughfares on the weekends.

This pleasant and very family-oriented neighborhood is also young, vibrant and hip with new restaurants and cafes popping up regularly. The Jardin Villemin is a small park around the corner.

The major train station, Gare de L'Est, is less than 5 minutes by foot, with access to metro lines 4,5, & 7, as well as RER line E.
Metro station Jacques Bonsergent is even closer. Numerous buses can be found at this busy terminal.

The central location of the apartment means walking is an option too, the Pompidou Center, Paris's museum of modern art, is about 15 minutes' walk, as well as the Marais, and a little further afield, Les Halles and the Palais Royale.

One bedroom has a queen size bed and the second bedroom has two singles. The living room has a convertible sofa-bed.

    • What a wonderful, homely apartment! Within easy walking distance of metro stations, and located close to shops and restaurants, this is a great base for a holiday. There was plenty of room for our family of 5, who enjoyed watching hte range of DVD's that was supplied. Great to have a lift to access the 4th floor too - no lugging suitcases up the stairs. We felt very safe and secure in this apartment and had no worries about leaving personal belongings there during the day. A great place to stay, and I certainly recommend it to any families looking for accomodation in Paris! Thanks!

    • We had a wonderful time in Paris. It was lovely to have 40 rue Lucien Sampaix to collapse in at the end of the day. Wonderful art was seen, delicious yet affordable wine was consumed, perfect crusty baguettes were purchased at the local bakery and eaten, still warm from the oven, at home. We loved the neighborhood and took advantage of all the charming little bakeries, bars, shops, and restaurants nearby. Mundey met us at the apartment, as promised, even though rush-hour traffic got us there quite late. She was lovely, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with. I would strongly reccomend this apartment to anyone who wants to get to know the real Paris! I hope to return again someday.

    • With my wife and teenage children (on one trip 2, then with 3), I have stayed here twice for a total of 4 weeks. Hardly a reason to stay anywhere else! The apartment has plenty of space (though a very thin bathroom could have taken some space from an inexplicably large entrance hallway). It's homely without feeling like someone else's home. Has many appreciated "bits and pieces" you could never find/ get in a hotel. The wireless and cable internet much appreciated, especially with teenagers. Paris' homeless population might concern some visitors and this area of Paris doesn't escape the problem. But only the most pretigous districts have fewer. Generally, the location is great. Proximity to two major train stations make intercity/ day trips and arrival & departure most convenient as well as for metro travel. Cooks will also appreciate the nearby and excellent markets (especially Bellevue). Non cooks - the restaurants, from Le Sprorting at the end of the street to Chez Michel near Gare de Nord. The Canal is always pleasant whether in the morning on the way to pick up bread or for a stroll after dinner. The area has a genuine "neighbouhood" feel about it. The manager is also more than anyone could expect - very efficient and friendly. And always helpful with any problem or question that we had. If you paid many times the price, you might expect a view of the Eiffel Tower or a balcony over a boulevard but at this price I can't imagine anyone being disappointed.

    • We really enjoyed our stay at 40 Rue Sampaix. There are good specialty markets/a traditional boulangerie within a few blocks. It's easy to catch a taxi on the canal or main Boulevard, but the street itself is relatively quiet. There is good cafe, bar, and restaurant scene starting just at the end of the block, and although this street is fairly residential, it is convenient to more commercial/touristed parts of the city. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking gear and the windows let in plenty of light and breeze- the place is well-used and thus a bit worn, but chraming just the same. All in all, a very pleasant stay. -Joannie & Karl, NYC

    • We had a great stay at this apartment. It is in a handy location for groceries, the metro, train stations, and close to a pretty canal. Even though it was very hot while we were in Paris, there was always a nice breeze in the apartment. It was quite quiet. All the facilities were modern, in good shape, and the beds were very comfortable.
