Rome, Italy... Large (120 squ.m), light apartment on the first floor (second floor American) of an elegant 100-year-old palazzo. The ceilings are high and the walls thick, which makes it cool in summer and warm in winter. There is, however, air conditioning in one double bedroom. The central heating is autonomous. The rooms are separated by a central corridor. The large living/dining-room and one bedroom are on the street side (a fairly quiet street by Rome standards) and two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom are on the interior, overlooking a picturesque courtyard. The furnishings are simple but comfortable: Swedish pine mostly. There are lots of books, including art and travel books on Rome and Italy and a fairly extensive and eclectic CD collection. There's Sky TV and a computer with fast internet. The neighbourhood has a strong community feel to it with a mix of longtime residents and foreigners. There's everything you need nearby: shops, banks, Post Office, dry cleaners, cafes and restaurants. The area is exceptionally green for central Rome, being on the edge of the large archeological site of the Forum and Palatine. There are also two parks in the immediate vicinity: the Villa Celimontana up the hill and the Colle Oppio, bordering the Monti district. You could spend a whole week just exploring this area! |
