"Small family reunion from all over the country- WA, PA & Cartersville. We (my parents in their 60's, our family of 3, and my brothers family of 3) spent a week at the Hattiway House. David as very nice and replied back to our questions promptly.
The Pros: the house was large and accommodating: 3+bathrooms/bedrooms, open kitchen, & seating in the living room. Location was great, quite, lake/dock was awesome, and air conditioning & fans were life savers.
However, there were a few important things that were big Cons: The initial smell was very musty- not the first impression that I had hoped for. While the house seemed very clean and the smell did dissapate once the air and fans were on this would have been a good idea to do when you know a group was checking in that day. However, the screened in porch was a bust. Musty, dusty , and didnt look like it had been cleaned. The Kitchen: pots and pans are in terrible condition, old and dirty looking, pan lids are all mis-matched (there's an open stove top & without lids makes a mess), no large pots for cooking family dinners in. There was only 1 dish towel, no pot holders, and the water in the sink can not be turned on hard enough because the upper countertop hangs over too far doesn't allow you to push the handle back far enough. Lighting, fans, & light switches: these should definitely all be looked at. Kitchen lights flicker constantly, light switches are everywhere but do not seem to all be connected to a light. Lots of missing or non-working lights in the kitchen. Outside area/Master bath: While both the outside in the master bath are lovely they are not very accommodating for elderly or persons with walking problems. Would be nice to have a flat or more stable stairway then the slate tile outside. The master bath/shower is all tiled and very slippery. No floor mats or hand rails. While this may seem picky at $250+ per night we had to purchase about $100+ worth of household items at Walmart during our stay (dish towels, floor mats/floor towels for both bathrooms, Tupperware for leftovers, lg pot to cook in). All in all the house was nice and would be even better if some if not all of these things were addressed. I would recommend this home for anyone visiting in the N. Atlanta area and would stay again myself - I'd just pack a little better."
