"We had a great experience at the Bungalow. The place was nice (and tidy), the location was great, Lyon was extremely accommodating (even sharing some local beers with us). I would absolutely recommend staying here while in Austin."

Hill Country Travel Tips

Find a Warm Welcome, Deep in the Heart of Texas

Heading to the Hill Country, visitors really are deep in the heart of Texas. This hilly area is scattered with rivers, giving a humid, subtropical climate of cool winters and hot summers. The climate leads to a beautiful environment with forests, deserts, mountains, ocean shoreline, and a mixture of drylands and wetlands. Fabulous for vacationing! This is where Texans come for fun!

Getting to your chosen Texas Hill Country vacation rentals really is a breeze. Texas has more airports than any other state! The major airport for the Hill Country is conveniently located in San Antonio. It is also well-serviced by major roads with I-10 an I-35 intersecting in San Antonio. The rest of the region is connected through a variety of major highways.

At Clarity Tunnel, a long abandoned railroad tunnel is home to up to half a million Mexican free-tailed bats! Austin was among the first cities to recognize the importance of bats to the natural environment and visitors to Texas Hill Country lodging can make their way to the Austin American-Statesman’s Bat Observation Area. Here, visitors can use the educational kiosk and watch vast numbers of bats as they emerge. Another site that will attract visitors is the Devils Sinkhole where the bats leave in the evening and the swallows come in. The ultimate timeshare!

The Hill Country is also a bird-spotter’s dream come true with such a huge variety of beautiful birds to see that it is impossible to list them all. However, you will spot Western Spotted Towhee, Painted Bunting, White Crowned and Lark Sparrows, Black and White Warblers and Summer Tanager.
