Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. Accommodates 6 to 8

Your vacation home is Running Deer Lodge, a lovely cedar log cabin chalet on the edge of one of the most private and secluded lakes in this wilderness park. See more deer, beaver, osprey and loons, than you will people. Authentic furnishings in a Great Camp tradition throughout. Three bedrooms (and an overflow sofa bed in the lower den), enough for two families and children. A wall of glass opens the cathedral ceiling living/dining area to the lake, mountain views, and sunsets. Fully equipped modern kitchen, a den, 3 boats, 1 kayak, dock and float.

We have been told that this is one of the most attractive camps in the Adirondacks available for rent. Furnished and decorated in the best style (J. S. Crew asked to shoot their summer catalog here). Many of our guests come back year after year. The kids especially love it.

Guest comments: Hi Rod, Wow did we have a wonderful stay at Running Deer! The nice thing is having family members drop by for a day or so and sharing in their amazement at how beautiful the place is. Enjoy the rest of your summer, Thanks, S. D. 2007

Rod, A wonderful week! Everything was just great, the weather, lodge, all the wildlife (beaver, bald eagles, loons, heron), and especially the fishing! Lots of bass (a few 5 lb+) and two huge pike 36'-328.' Looking forward to next year. Thanks again, J. M. 2007

These two letters are characteristic of those we receive each year. Rod Blackburn

Notes:
Pets are permitted (some). Boats: 2 row boat, 1 canoe, 1 kayak. Secluded camp on a nearly private lake (no public access), no one else in sight. Our guests delight in how relaxing and private it is on Thurman Pond, a 3/4 mile lake with clear water, good swimming, and excellent fishing for large bass and pike (with no public access the fish get big!). The lodge is on three levels with master bedroom (full size bed for 2) with its own full bath room and private sitting area on the top floor, the main floor has a wrap-around deck overlooking the lake, inside a cathedral ceiling in the sitting and dining area, adjacent kitchen, and to the rear are two bedrooms (one with two twin beds, the other with a full size bed), and a full bathroom. On the lower floor is a den with VCR, DVD, etc, sofas, chairs, and an area with ping pong table, also washer and dryer. The den can also double as a bedroom with a Queen sofa-bed. From the den you walk out on the lower deck.

WOW!!! AMAZING!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is absolutely incredible!!! So warm and inviting. The seclusion is perfect for winding down and relaxing. The fishing, swimming and boating were awesome. Yes, the road is a little rough but go slow and know how great this place is. Also, the privacy is great. You can't even see the houses to your left or right. We washed all linens and towels and packed out our garbage (we had to do that in our previous rental) but you don't have to. The fire pit is set up beautifully for family to sit and enjoy each other's company. There's great hiking nearby in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness area and Schroon Lake is a cute little town. If you like to BBQ, you have to visit Oscar's in Warrensburgh. They have the best steaks, sausage, cheese, burgers, hot dogs, etc. Try their more than mustard.....you won't be disappointed. Ice cream at Martha's is a must....off exit 20. Breakfast and lunch at the Silo is also a must...off exit 19. Also try their cider doughnuts...best ever. If you like fresh fruit and the greatest pies of all time, check out Gunnison Orchards in Crown Point. Rent a boat on Lake George in Hague. Dockside Marina. Or, just sit back and relax at this amazing home day after day. It's a gem and we can't wait to get back next year!!! Thank you for a such a wonderful place to stay.

Peaceful, clean, natural beauty and well-priced

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect vacation rental home for our family. We had a wonderful time fishing, swimming and enjoying the natural beauty all around us and reconnecting as a family. The home itself was filled with beautifully crafted furnishings and decor. Our family, including the dog, enjoyed sitting by the fire at night listening to all the sounds of nature. The house was clean, supplied with everything we could need and accommodated our family of five perfectly. Kids already asking if we can spend next summer there as well!! Thank you for sharing this hidden gem with us!

Lakefront Retreat - Property ID 103436

  • 4 of 5

Lovely home on a quiet and peaceful lake. Enjoyed fishing and kayaking. Enjoyed early mornings and afternoons on the porch deck. The house was well equipped, however housekeeping missed cleaning floors and dusting which was somewhat unpleasant. Road leading to house was somewhat difficult to travel (large rocks).

We would return, perhaps next year, for two weeks!

Beautiful, secluded, peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful cabin and the secluded yet close to town setting. Great canoeing and fishing, a view to wilderness across Thurman Pond. Recommend a 4 wheel drive car to get down the road to the camp. Very peaceful and private, owners are very dog friendly - we appreciated that too!

Amazing hideaway in the Adirondacks!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is everything and more than the pictures! The furnishings are rustic Adirondack and the house slept 8 of us comfortably and had everything we needed. We went out on the pond in a canoe and other boats, fishing was great, swimming was great too with the floating dock. At night could see millions of stars. We had bonfires and went on hikes in nearby trails as well as visiting the local microbrewery and restaurants. We are definitely coming back to this hideaway to refresh next year!!
