About DM Shroyer
We live in Portland, Oregon most of the year, but love to escape to Kona during the mainland rainy season! We purchased this property as it spoke to our romantic nature...
DM Shroyer purchased this House in 2000
Why DM Shroyer chose Honalo
We chose this property for it's tranquil setting, view and climate - which is awesome at this elevation. Though our renovation of the house(s) is well-appointed and modern, the surrounding neighborhood has a laid-back feel, with coffee growers on the hill, even a chocolate 'factory' nearby. And, if you get your fill of peace and relaxation, 'Civilization' is only a few minutes away...
What makes this House unique
The Hideaway offers plenty of privacy, while still close and convenient to all amenities. Some of our guests compare it to staying at their own private spa! The main house (with it's 3 separate 'cabanas' - each with it's own full bed & bath), surround a beautifully attended courtyard. On the surrounding grounds, we encourage our guests to explore the variety of lush foliage, flowers and trees. Also, retrieve fresh, ripe papaya, lime, and other fruits for a delicious tropical breakfast! If you enjoyed the movie, 'Enchanted April', we think you'll love the Hideaway...

Wonderful tropical escape
Beautiful house with open air spaces. Amazing deck with beautiful views. We stayed in a lot and hung out at the pool. There are many fruit trees on property. The property is private on a hill overlooking kona. Maybe 8 minutes drive to the closest beach. Many of Kona’s beaches are rocky though, so if you have young children like us you might want to drive north to the soft sand beaches.
Beautiful home, wonderful property with abundant tropical fruits and birds, amazing view. A great location for relaxing and exploring the Big Island. All the amenities one could want and
complete privacy too.
Great house! Highly recommended!
View to die for !
Our family spent 2 glorious weeks at Keauhou Hideaway over the Holiday period. The view from the front lanai and decks is gorgeous ... unspoiled vistas of the Ocean as far as the eye can see. Property is well kept, nicely laid out (particularly with the 3 bedrooms separated ), quiet as we only heard 1 truck go by on our last day, and a yard that is a quiet oasis for all to enjoy. Great attention has been spent with the various types of fruit trees planted here (lime, orange, fig, grapefruit, etc). Ask Nancy the skilled gardener for a guided tour of the property. Pool and hot tub were a hit with the family. All meals were spent on the covered lanai while we enjoyed the views, both during the day and late afternoon sunsets. We wold love to return soon. Appreciate the time we had in paradise.
My husband and I highly recommend renting this fantastic vacation home. The house is spacious, inviting and well-appointed. The bedrooms are comfortable, clean and private. There is a magnificent ocean view, pool and spa and magical garden. It is obvious the owners, property manager and gardener have given serious consideration to the needs, comforts and delights of their guests. They have created a special place - their own little slice of Paradise! We're so happy to have had the opportunity to share it.
The Perfect Hawaii Hideaway
We booked this home for 7 days and fell in love. It was very clean and straightforward. The views were impeccable and the pool and hottub made a great house the perfect house. We used two of the three bedrooms and they were adequate. The beds themselves could stand to be updated but that's my only complaint. Everything we needed was there for us and we cooked every morning and night. Well appointed kitchen! The views were perfect and the sunrise and sunsets were gorgeous! The home was very close to shopping areas, snorkeling and many beautiful beaches. It was a short drive from the airport as well. A bird feeder was a lovely addition and we enjoyed the birds at all hours. The grounds were beautiful and filled with fresh fruit trees. A branch of bananas was left for us when we arrived and they were greatly appreciated. Geckos are all over the property and we did see some giant bugs but we were in the tropics so expected. The washing machine and dryer and clothes line were greatly appreciated! We also loves the secluded location on the well maintained grounds. We never heard or saw another person our entire trip! It was wonderful!
In summary, we loved this house!! We will definitely be staying again and would book for Christmas but someone beat us to it! Love love love - enough said!
Thank you for your comments. We have replaced all the beds with new ones.
This gorgeous property is located just south of Kailua-Kona, 800 feet above the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The Keauhou Shopping Center, (Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa adjacent), is directly below us, with great shopping, restaurants, movie theaters & convenient Post Office. This property and location has something for everyone...unwind on the newly appointed deck beside the infinity pool and jacuzzi, or sit on the lanai and take in the lush vegetation and fruit trees. Serene setting with panoramic Ocean Views, the tropical setting and bird visits are a delight. Just above our location, neighbor Alaina welcomes you with her Award Winning coffee at the Wailele Coffee Farm (tours available). If you wish, another neighbor will gladly provide farm-fresh eggs (see house info book or inquire with owner/agent). A visit to nearby Holualua, (up the hill from Kailua-Kona), you will find a delightful artists' community, coffee plantation and shops. The Holuakoa Garden provides a fantastic Brunch (Lunch & Dinner too!). The close by Kealakakua Bay offers snorkeling (see dolphin, manta ray among others), along with fishing & water sports. At the south end of the Bay, a cultural visit to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park - The Place of Refuge - is beautiful and unique - well worth a visit! For further excursion, we enjoy a day trip to Hawi at the north end of the Island, visiting Pololu Valley Lookout after eateries and shops along the way. The drive back on Hwy 250 through Parker Ranch (& Museum), and on ahead to Waimea is fantastic. We like to take Hwy 190 back to Kailua-Kona for a different view than the coast road... the Island's diversity is stunning - don't leave the camera behind! Our crew maintains the grounds and solar pool on a regular basis, and are never intrusive (you most likely will not know they are there!). To ensure you the best experience possible however, we will alter any maintenance scheduled during your stay if need be - just ask. As Owners of The Hideaway we love our time here away from our mainland home in Oregon (we are never on-site during enjoyment by our guests, however). It is not just a 'rental' to us! We have owned the property for quite a number of years, so we have much more information on local places to eat, visit, etc. in a Notebook for our Guests on-site. We will be happy to provide the complete, owners' "best spots and favorites" ahead of your stay to help plan your Holiday in Paradise... Much Aloha!...we look forward to having you as our guests!
