About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Nestled oh the slopes of Hualalai, the Keauhou Hideaway is a private retreat on 2.7 acres of lush tropical vegetation. The 800' elevation affords a spectacular view of the Kona coastline and ensures warm, sunny days and cool nights.

Completely renovated in 2005 and 2012, the Hideaway is composed of 4 separate buildings linked to create a delightful courtyard perfect for breakfast smoothies.

The tranquil grounds are home to mango, avocado, fig, papaya and citrus trees. In addition, passion fruit vines, bananas, herbs and more await your discovery!

Java sparrows, doves, finches, cardinals, and canaries wake you with their songs. A great palace to unwind!

(Note: Owners' studio building is not included in the rental premises. This buiding is not occupied when the property is rented.)

About Denise Shroyer

We live in Portland, Oregon most of the year, but love to escape to Kona during the rainy season!

Denise Shroyer purchased this house in 2000

Why Denise Shroyer chose Keauhou

We chose this property because the setting, view and climate are awesome at this elevation, and the neighborhood is laid-back and delightful, with many coffee growers, and even a chocolate 'factory'.

What makes this house unique

The Hideaway offers plenty of privacy, while still convenient to all amenities. Some of our guests compare it to staying at your own private spa. In the morning, you can pick a papaya and a lime off our trees, and create a delicious breakfast.

If you are a plant lover, there is a treat in store for you here...all sorts of beautiful trees, bushes and flowers. If you enjoyed the movie, 'Enchanted April', we think you'll love the Hideaway.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As those who came before us, we are not ready to leave our home away from home. The sunsets were amazing, we loved feeding the birds in the morning and watching the geckos. The fresh fruits from the trees and tasting things we've never seen. We also loved all the privacy. The house provides everything needed for a relaxing vacation. The towels are thick and soft, the bed so comfortable. The beach towels and acccessories are an added bonus. So we bid farewell to this very special place.

View to die for !

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent 2 glorious weeks at Keauhou Hideaway over the Holiday period. The view from the front lanai and decks is gorgeous ... unspoiled vistas of the Ocean as far as the eye can see. Property is well kept, nicely laid out (particularly with the 3 bedrooms separated ), quiet as we only heard 1 truck go by on our last day, and a yard that is a quiet oasis for all to enjoy. Great attention has been spent with the various types of fruit trees planted here (lime, orange, fig, grapefruit, etc). Ask Nancy the skilled gardener for a guided tour of the property. Pool and hot tub were a hit with the family. All meals were spent on the covered lanai while we enjoyed the views, both during the day and late afternoon sunsets. We wold love to return soon. Appreciate the time we had in paradise.

Paradise Found!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I highly recommend renting this fantastic vacation home. The house is spacious, inviting and well-appointed. The bedrooms are comfortable, clean and private. There is a magnificent ocean view, pool and spa and magical garden. It is obvious the owners, property manager and gardener have given serious consideration to the needs, comforts and delights of their guests. They have created a special place - their own little slice of Paradise! We're so happy to have had the opportunity to share it.

The Perfect Hawaii Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked this home for 7 days and fell in love. It was very clean and straightforward. The views were impeccable and the pool and hottub made a great house the perfect house. We used two of the three bedrooms and they were adequate. The beds themselves could stand to be updated but that's my only complaint. Everything we needed was there for us and we cooked every morning and night. Well appointed kitchen! The views were perfect and the sunrise and sunsets were gorgeous! The home was very close to shopping areas, snorkeling and many beautiful beaches. It was a short drive from the airport as well. A bird feeder was a lovely addition and we enjoyed the birds at all hours. The grounds were beautiful and filled with fresh fruit trees. A branch of bananas was left for us when we arrived and they were greatly appreciated. Geckos are all over the property and we did see some giant bugs but we were in the tropics so expected. The washing machine and dryer and clothes line were greatly appreciated! We also loves the secluded location on the well maintained grounds. We never heard or saw another person our entire trip! It was wonderful!

In summary, we loved this house!! We will definitely be staying again and would book for Christmas but someone beat us to it! Love love love - enough said!

A Special Sanctuary to appreciate the true beauty and spirit of Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the Keauhou Hideaway for the past four years. It has become a sacred place for us to visit as the house is close enough to the excitement of Kona, but isolated and far enough away to provide peace. The sunsets from this altitude are unobstructed and magnificent. The higher altitude provides for cooler temperatures at night.

We cooked many of our meals at the house and was able to use many of the fruits and vegetables that grow on the property. We cut fresh flowers everyday to enjoy in the house.

Brian who manages the property and lives in the area was very responsive to our needs and requests. This is a special property. I car is required.

Keauhou Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My family loved this place the gardens and views are fantastic to see. We would stay there again. The 2.7 acres makes the place very private. The location is also great and the views from the yard, pool & hot tub of the ocean in front of you cannot be beat. They have put so much work into the gardens around the house.

Our beautiful property is located just south of Kailua-Kona, 800 feet above the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The Keauhou Shopping Center, (Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa is directly adjacent to it), is directly below us, with great shopping, restaurants, movie theaters & convenient Post Office. This property and location has something for everyone...unwind on our newly appointed deck beside the infinity pool and jacuzzi, or sit on the lanai and take in the lush vegetation and fruit trees, along with gorgeous Ocean Views... daily visits from tropical birds are a delight to watch...

Just above our location, neighbor Alaina has Award Winning coffee at the Wailele Coffee Farm - tours available. Another provides fresh eggs!

A visit to nearby Holualua, up the hill from Kailua-Kona, you will find a delightful artists' community, coffee plantation and shops. Brunch is fantastic there at the Holuakoa Garden (Lunch & Dinner too!).

The close by Kealakakua Bay offers visits to snorkeling (see dolphin & manta ray), along with fishing & water sports. At the south end of the Bay, a cultural visit to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park - The Place of Refuge is beautiful and unique - well worth a visit.

For further excursion, we enjoy a day trip to Hawi at the north end of the Island, visiting Pololu Valley Lookout after eateries and shops along the way. The drive back on Hwy 250 through Parker Ranch (& Museum), ahead to Waimea is fantastic. We like to take Hwy 190 back to Kailua-Kona for better views and less congestion that the coast road... the Island's diversity is stunning - don't leave the camera behind!

Our crew maintains the grounds and solar pool on a regular basis, and are never intrusive (you most likely will not know they are there!). To ensure you the best experience possible, we will address those visits and alter them if need be.

As Owners of The Hideaway, we love our time here away from the mainland (but are not on-site during enjoyment by our guests). Thus, we have so much more information on the local places to eat, visit, etc., available for our guests on-site. We will be happy to provide the complete, owners' "best spots and favorites" ahead of your stay to help plan your Holiday in paradise...

Much Aloha to you, and we look forward to having you as our guests!
