It finally happened! From the first time we visited Akumal we knew we wanted to retire there. This is now our main home and is only available to guests a few weeks of the year when we return to the US to visit family. We keep the calendar updated, so please check to see if it is available before requesting a quote.

• You want to be just steps away from the beach and a wonderful covered swimming pool with a view of the Caribbean or the new terrace pool in the bright Mexican sunshine

• You want to be off the main road, but within walking distance of attractions, restaurants, and the beach

This beautiful two-bedroom, two-bathroom Condominium is located in a tropical garden setting in north Akumal. It will comfortably sleep 4 people. An additional guest would be accepted, but that person would have to sleep on the couch. There is an additional charge of $30/night for any persons staying in the condo in excess of 4 people. The condo is on the second floor and is equipped with air-conditioned bedrooms, ceiling fans in all rooms, daily maid service, and a fully-equipped kitchen.

There are three wonderful snorkeling areas within walking distance. Half-Moon Bay is located directly in front of the condo complex. Yal-Ku Lagoon is a short two blocks away. This lagoon is often equated to swimming in an aquarium. And, don't forget the beautiful reef at Akumal Bay which is located about a mile south of the complex. If you have a vehicle or take a taxi, there are countless other snorkeling spots available and a wonderful selection of scuba diving shops if you care to dive the Caribbean or the extensive fresh water caverns in the Riviera Maya.

The famous sandy/coral beaches and great snorkeling of Half Moon Bay are just down the steps and through an open breezeway.

The unit is bright and light with an open design and high ceilings. From the main entry you will access the open living and dining area. The living area includes comfortable seating and access to a private terrace that overlooks the tropical gardens. The dining area includes a large table with seating for six.

The completely furnished kitchen includes bottled drinking water, cookware, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, oven/stove, utensils, dishes and, of course, a blender for the margaritas. The daily maid service allows you to enjoy yourself while the unit is cleaned up, beds made, and dishes washed!

The master bedroom has a king-size bed with private balcony - a perfect place to string the hammock and relax. The second bedroom has two twin-size beds and its own private balcony.

Each morning the singing of tropical birds awaken you. During the day you can enjoy the crystal clear waters full of colorful fish, tour ancient Mayan ruins, shop, or just relax on the beach with a good book. In the evenings, you can walk to one of the several excellent restaurants for a romantic dinner on the beach.

This condo is located in the courtyard. While it is not beachfront it does have an ocean view from the private bedroom terraces and Half-Moon Bay is easily reached by walking through an open breezeway. There you will have free use of the beach, sun shelters, lounge chairs, and fresh-water showers.

This condominium is ready and waiting for you..... Please note that the condo is not available to walk-ins. This is our main home and is only available a few weeks of the year.

Free use of beach, sun shelters, lounge chairs and fresh-water outdoor shower (Perfect spot for relaxing after snorkeling). Beach towels are provided, so no need to pack them. A safe with a programmable code is located in the condo. Free book exchange in the office. Unlimited free DSL or Wi-Fi inside condo. There is a new office desk area inside condo with office chair and DSL line (or Wi-Fi) if you need to touch base at home or work.

Nice spot with great restaurants in walking distance. Daily maid service was greatly appreciated. Very well equipped kitchen and the best Wi-Fi that we have ever had in a VRBO. Would stay here again.

Wonderful place to spend a week

We stayed at La Iguana for 1 week in February. It was a good launching point for most everything that we wanted to do. The condo itself is very clean and bright. The other guests at the condo complex were friendly and helpful. The staff was also very accomodating. The information that the owners provide ahead of time and in a binder in the condo is extremely helpful. We will definitely be back! Thank you, Peggy!

Nice quiet location

The condo is roomy and quiet. It's located on the upper level of a duplex. The living room and both bedrooms have balconies. The living room balcony affords a view of the palm tree covered court yard. Both bedroom balconies have partial sea views. The bedrooms have AC; the rest of the unit does not. The beach is only a few steps away though the archway of the main 4 level building. Palapas are available for use of the complex residents. The beach is rocky but excellent for snorkeling; the water temperature was at least 25C (in Feb). Water shoes are nice but you can also make it work without them. Beware of the sea urchins. The Yal-Ku lagoon is a 5 minute walk away. It's also very nice for snorkeling but rather expensive; 14USD for adults, 10USD for children as of Feb 2017. The snokeling in front of the condo is just as good. The rooftop of the main building affords a great view of the beach and jungle; perfect for watching sunrise and sunset.

We rented a car at the airport. Beware that the car rental companies all require one to buy extra liability insurance. In our case this added almost 250USD to the cost of the one week rental; the rental itself was 20USD. You can get to the unit by taxi but we also drove to Aktun Chen, Tulum, and Coba so the car was probably worth it.

Beautiful setting

Our stay was wonderful. We did have colder weather than they have had for a while but we still enjoyed our time at La Iguana. Peggy was available to help when needed as well as Hector and Alvar. We had a dead battery on our car one morning and they had some one here within 30 minutes. The maid did a fantastic job as well. Akumal is one of our favorite places to stay. We will be back!

Gorgeous, clean, well-maintained, inviting--totally loved it.

The apartment and the exterior grounds were really beautiful and exceeded all our expectations.

The apartment itself is clean and spacious—with high white walls, high ceilings and an open layout with the kitchen opening up into the inside eating area. The kitchen is well- stocked with pots and pans and cooking utensils, anything you would need to cook a full meal—which we did on quite a few occasions in our one-week stay.

As the apartment is on the second floor, each room has windows that allow in the light. Each bedroom has a small balcony with a view of the ocean, and the main balcony was a wonderful place to eat our meals, overlooking a tropical garden of coconut trees, palms and flowers. We stayed in December and never had to use the AC as there was always a cool ocean breeze.

Walking down the apartment steps, you are frequently greeted by the many charming iguanas that sun themselves by the pool. As the condo property is located directly on the beach, it’s just a short stroll (about 100 feet) to beach loungers, shaded tables and the water. Another nice thing is that we never felt crowded while we were there enjoying the beach, the pools and the property—just a few other families or couples (or nobody else) at any time.

The property is on the north end of Half-Moon bay, so it’s just a short walk to snorkel in the freshwater lagoon, or right out front in the bay itself. We saw lots of fish, squid, rays and more among the coral reef right out front. With two boys, ages 10 and 12—this was just a wonderland for them.

Additionally, the owner, Peggy, mailed us maps and information for surrounding areas, and provided us invaluable information and was very prompt to answer questions via email for navigating transportation, shopping, restaurant options, places to visit—just about everything. We really got the impression that is was part of her mission for us to enjoy her condo, and to enjoy Akumal and the surrounding area. We wound up not renting a car—so wound up walking to town when we had to, or took taxis and buses to go further distances.

We couldn’t rave about this place more: the apartment, the condo gardens, Akumal itself, and the owner, Peggy—all made for a wonderful, relaxing vacation for our family. Nobody wanted to leave, and we would definitely book the same place again. An wonderful place and an excellent value.

Paradise Found

Our amazing experience with this condo in Akumal started before we even arrived. The owners provided us with an abundance of great information that covered where to eat, cenotes to swim in, places to snorkel, ruins to visit and beaches to relax at. The condo is spacious and has all the comforts of home. The pools were clean and refreshing, the palapas provided the needed shade by the relaxing sounds of the gorgeous Half Moon Bay. We especially enjoyed the 'no saving rule' at the palapas, never had a problem enjoying the ocean when we wanted to. Thanks for making our vacation a memorable one.
