Fantastic Fun for our family!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this vacation home in Homassassa! This is our second time scalloping and we enjoyed the area better than our first trip in Crystal River. Homassassa is less congested in boat traffic and a little more laid back. The house is decorated nicely and is on a quiet street. The king size beds are very comfortable and there's a front room with 2 queen size futons that work great for the kids! There's also a large back porch that's great to sit out in the evenings.

One of the best features of this house is the dock! We were able to launch our 24 foot boat at the end of the road at a private neighborhood boat ramp and keep our boat in the water the entire week. So much better than having to launch the boat everyday and wait in long lines! It was about a 20 minute boat ride out to the gulf and then you can head either north or south for scallops. It's a great family trip - even our 6 year old could do it. There also a boat with a giant shrimp on it right when you come out to the gulf that sells bait and ice cream - how fun is that?!

The house is also close to several restaurants that can be reached by boat or car. The Freezer was our absolute favorite place! They have the most amazing shrimp and snow crab legs! We went 3 times in one week. There's also an awesome breakfast place called the Biscuit Barn that's about a 5 minute drive by car.

Homassassa Springs is very close to the house and the ice cold water feels amazing in the summer heat! Water is clear and beautiful. There's also the Homasassa Springs Wildlife Park that is close by. They have many native Florida animals in the park and even a hippo! There's also an underwater viewing area of the springs where we can see the manatee and fish up close.

We had a wonderful week in this home and enjoyed being in this beautiful area of Florida!

Great location, great accommodations.

  • 5 of 5

The property is very well maintained, excellent accommodations, appliances are new, furniture in great condition. Only recommendation is to add Wi-Fi services. With children at night; their down time away from the water is always on games or I-pads, our stay would have been perfect if this service was provided. Other than that, property management, neighborhood, private boat ramp and the overall experience was absolutely top notch!

Car: necessary

Bring your Flips Flops and Jimmy Buffet music. This home is located in Old Homosassa on a deep mostly fresh water canal 6 homes from the Beautiful Homosassa River. If you are a water lover this is the place for you, 2 bedroom 2 bath sleeps 6 and has its own 125" of dockage and seawall, fish cleaning station, and community boat ramp. Plenty of parking.

Pull out in the AM for a day of fishing, scalloping, or just enjoying the nature along the Homosassa River. Eagles, Osprey, Ducks and more live along the river along with otters and sometimes the wild hog or deer can be seen. Manatees visit in the winter along with many other bird species.

Flush out your motors and scrub down the boat in the fresh water of the Homosassa River. When you are back at the dock you are all cleaned up and just need to clean the catch of the day.

Stop for a cool drink or bite to eat at one of the many waterfront restaurants. Most have music some night each week and if the wind blows just right you can sit on the back porch and listen to the music at the Seagrass Resort resort on the weekends while you relax or BBQ. Great mix of old rock and roll and country.

The Blue Springs headwaters of the Homosassa River are just a short boat ride away. The water is always 72 degrees so in the winter the manatees congregate there for warmth along with large schools of Snook, Sheephead, and Mullet. Go for a swim with the gentle giants just mind your manners they are protected. Tours are offered in both Homosassa and Crystal River if you dont have the gear or you can rent form the many dive shops.

If you do decide to leave for the day there are some unique things to do. Weeki Wachee Park home to the Live Mermaids is just a 30 minute drive south on US 19. Rent a Kayak and take a tour down the rive or just stay are the park for the day and watch the show. Take a drive down into Ozello and go to Pecks Seafood. Old Time Florida food can be found here and the drive is amazing. Blue Crabs are their specialty.
