Rovinj or Rovigno? What's in a name, after all?
Rovinj is really easy on the eye. With its winding, cobbled streets, picturesque harbor, and elegant church spires, it's no wonder this gorgeous coastal town is among the most popular destinations in Croatia. It might be that some of Rovinj's romance is down to its strong Italian influence. The town is officially bilingual, and you might find it referred to by its Italian name, Rovigno. A Rovinj vacation rental is about soaking up the old world atmosphere, lounging on the beaches, and watching the sunsets with a glass of wine—and as a working fishing port, the seafood is to die for.
Pay your respects to Rovinj's grande dame
The Church of St. Euphemia stands tall over Rovinj. This stately grande dame was built in the 1700s on the site of an earlier building, and she looks like she might have been transplanted wholesale from Venice. You'll also want to explore Rovinj's old town, where you can still walk through some of the original medieval gates. And Rovinj has a thriving arts scene too. Check out some of the old masters in the Rovinj Heritage Museum, then see what the new ones are up to in 1 of the town's many little galleries, or on busy Grisia street.
See the sights... then be in the water 5 minutes later
With a Rovinj vacation rental, it's not going to be long before you find yourself down by the sea, whether you're heading out on a boat trip, or lounging on one of the area's many pebble beaches. There's even a rocky sunbathing and swimming spot right near the center, just minutes from the town square and the church of St. Euphemia. And if you're looking for excursions, you'll be spoiled for choice. Many vacationers choose to explore some of the nearby islands like Sveti Andrija and Sveta Katarina, but more ambitious sea dogs can take day trips over to Venice.
Packed your big coat? You can take it right out again
You won't need to be packing the down jackets and furry boots for your Rovinj vacation rental. Summers here are spectacular. It's hot, with fresh sea breezes, and while you might get the occasional rain shower, it's rarely very long before the sun's out again. It's a long summer in Rovinj, and travelers looking for a bit more elbow room might want to show up early or late in the season to avoid the most popular times. Even winters round here are refreshingly mild, and if you're in town for the cultural sights rather than the beaches, that might be your ideal season.
All together now, "Islands in the streeeaaamm..."
Ravishing Rovinj is built into the western edge of Croatia's Istrian Peninsula, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The town's surrounded by gorgeous pebble beaches and pristine forest, and it's so unspoiled that it's a haven for wildlife. Chances are that much of the wildlife you see will be of the marine variety, and on a plate, since the seafood doesn't come much fresher. What's more, a Rovinj vacation rental is basically like a multi-buy discount. Not only are you getting the delights of the town itself, but you also get to explore the Rovinj archipelago—a collection of tiny islands lying just off the shore.
