Turning Creek is a custom executive home in the historic community of McCloud, CA, set on 2.3 acres with Squaw Creek running through the property. The western portion is beautifully landscaped with Colorado Blue Spruce, huge lawn, Rhododendrons, and Sun Azaleas. Large decks and patios and built-in lavarock barbecue invites one to the backyard. The bridge from the back yard crosses the creek to the natural woods.
This 2000-foot (approximately) home features the Creek View bedroom with a California King sleigh bed and a sleigh daybed. A window seat looks out to Squaw Creek. Just before the bathroom is a huge walk-in closet. The master bath features a luxurious whirlpool tub.
The Shasta View bedroom contains a queen bed and an extra long twin with a spectacular view of Mt. Shasta, with an attached 1/2 bath. Both the California King and Queen beds feature Tempurpedic mattresses. Two rollaway twin beds are stored in a closet, for guests up to 200 lbs. Complete privacy for 4 people, we are licensed for up to 9. The bedrooms are at opposite sides of the house, perfect for 2 couples or a couple with children.
A large sunken Living Room with mountain views and a wood-burning stove, games, puzzles, a library and cable TV (35') and a DVD player help you enjoy your stay. A fabulous dining room and kitchen (with a 1920's Wedgewood stove, decorative use only) complete the charm of the home. Additionally there is large entry hall with a desk for your laptop, laundry room and two car garage. A full bath is accessible from the hall. There is now a WiFi modem onsite so there should be no problems connecting. There is a small TV with built in DVD player and cable in the Shasta View bedroom
The house has recently been remodeled with new carpeting, new hardwood sanding and finish, new wallpaper in the Master Suite and new tile in the baths. A few bugs are still being worked out. We are no longer accepting dogs because of some damage to the house and all the new finishes and carpeting. There is a boarding kennel in Mt. Shasta if you'd like your pet close.
Take a taste of McCloud home with you, be sure to bring empty jugs to fill with the famous McCloud spring water from the tap.
Your stay at our home offers some wonderful options included in the package:
A section of our library offers paperback novels we have already enjoyed. Feel free to start a new novel from our library and take it with you to finish at your leisure. If you have one you have finished, feel free to leave it on the shelf.
We also have a library of books to enjoy but not take, including books about the area, fishing musings and children's books, and other eclectic choices.
* Anyone with young children please take note. Squaw Creek is beautiful and shallow but very cold and fast-running. Attendance to small children is imperative. There are flip-locks on the doors leading to the back, please use them and make sure an adult watches them at all times near the creek.

We fell in love with McCloud after my husband worked in this area as a land surveyor. After a vacation at Old Station we were driving to a college friend's house in Lake Shastina when Ian drove me around McCloud. I looked around and said, "I could live here". A month later I called him and in 2005 we bought our house, the one next door upstream. In 2006, Turning Creek came up for sale and we figured we would never get two houses side by side on the creek. I made the offer without my husband even seeing the place with his go-ahead. It closed on his birthday and we use it for family reunions and when our kids come up, or down or across. They are well spread out so that leaves plenty of times for guests at Turning Creek.
Anne purchased this House in 2006
Why Anne chose McCloud
Turning Creek is a beautiful blend of space and comfort with the feeling of living in the woods. A friend named it "Turning Creek" as she was thinking what the Native Americans would call it. The creek twists and turns on the property, from the Master Bedroom bay window the creek comes straight at you and then turns and continues straight for awhile.
What makes this House unique
The Creek. Gazebo. Tall older growth forest. Convenience of being in town yet feeling like you are miles away. On a private drive. Tempurpedic beds. 2.3 acres to spread out on. Landscaped on one side of the creek, wild on the other. Wildlife, including deer, squirrels, our bear who likes garbage and an occasional ottter going after the native trout in the creek. Large rooms. 2 ovens. Small TV.(not kidding the largest is 30 something inches.) Cable, electricity and internet, though on site can sometimes go out in storms or accidents. Sitting in the Bay window seat looking at the creek. Standing on the bridge across the creek letting cares wash away and go downstream. Fresh, cold spring water without any treatment straight from the tap. Nearness to so many naturals wonders and when you visit no one is there! I could go on. Travelers will shovel their own snow but the private drive is plowed.

Great Vacation Place!
We had a nice time during a long weekend at this home. It is a beautiful town and the backyard especially looks out into a wooded area which is beautiful. The house had all the needed amenities and provided everything we needed for a nice visit. Thank you for the stay and the bubbly and chocolate you left in the fridge!
We always enjoy our stay at Turning Creek. It's private, close to town, and best of all close to the McCloud River and other great trout waters. Anne is very responsive to her guests and our suggestions. The bed is one of the best we've slept in a rental. And I can't think of another place where I can't wait to get there for a glass of water! That fabulous cold Mt. Shasta water!
Base camp McCloud
By staying in McCloud for a week we were able to enjoy the surrounding area and visit places such as Lakes McCloud and Siskiyou, The Living Memorial near Weed and Burney Falls all from a central location. The house we rented was ideal. It was roomy and comfortable as well as feeling relaxed. Having a pine forest , complete with stream , as a backyard was incomparable. the accommodations were neat and clean when we arrived. overall we feit we could not have found a better place from which to explore Queen Shasta's domain :)
Great place next to a lovely creek.
Our family of 4 had a blast! Great place, well kept up, easy to drive to Shasta (Mt. or Lake), Lassen, or anywhere in between. The only knocks are no AC (we happened to be there during an epic heat wave!) and it was short on the beach towels. The towels were no biggie since the whole area was over 100 deg, no one cared if they were wet. The AC was less of an issue than I thought it would be going in, so that was nice.
Spacious, perfect creek side setting and modern home close to town.
We were two couples who stayed for 4 nights for the Burning Tango event and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The house has two bedrooms at opposite ends ensuring privacy and a quiet environment. It's modern, spacious with a large kitchen with hardwood floors (useful for practicing our tango moves) and then, just relaxing. Although we were only 12 minute walk from the town, it was so hot during our stay (90+) that we drove. The good news is that the house stayed naturally cool even under hot conditions and it was never a problem. The house was very well stocked and had everything we needed. The back yard deck and babbling creek made for an idyllic and relaxing setting.
Wonderful place to stay
We spent 7 nights in this lovely, comfortable house. Everything was perfectly set up for maximum comfort and convenience, very functional kitchen for me, the kind of person who brings along my own knives and definitely cooks. But the best is the location with the creek right off the back deck and the forest all around, just happens to be full of blooming rhododendrons right now. Beautiful. Looking forward to coming back in the future.
We are located in town, north of Hwy 89 but the property is 2.3 acres on a private drive with the upper portion of Squaw Creek running through the property. We are less than a 3/4 of a mile from Main Street and and around the corner from Hoo Hoo Park. This is not a Mill house.
