This cabin could have a lot of potential
The cabin itself is great, very cozy. I don't know if I would recommend trying to fit 6 people in here.
My biggest two issues were the lack of communication from the property manager and the abundance of mouse feces around the cabin. Don't know the last time this cabin was cleaned before I stayed there but the counter tops, the couch, the floor, etc. had mouse feces all over. The was even a mouse nest in the master bed. Definitely not acceptable. As far as the lack of communication, you're given an address and there are a few cabins and you kind of have to guess which one you're staying at. This is the "Deer Run" cabin for all future guests. I also wanted to add a night to my stay, I called 4-5 times, messaged VRBO, and messaged the property manager twice and four days later they finally got back to me.
I would say if you're looking for a clean cabin, with adequate communication from the property manager then don't stay here. You're also charged a "cleaning fee" but on the check out instructions, they essentially want you to clean the entire cabin before you leave and there's mouse crap everywhere so not sure what they are cleaning.
I know a previous reviewer said they had not received back their $50 damage deposit. And honestly I'm not holding my breath.
I highly doubt I will stay here again, unless they make some serious changes.
There are several other cabins in this area that we passed when we were driving to different hiking trails. Check those out before you even think about staying here.
Much better than even expected.
The pictures of this cabin and property shown don't really do it justice. The cabin is secluded with great views and a ton of firewood provided by the owner. What a great amenity! They have done everything right from the screened in porch to hand out on when it rains to the full length deck overlooked great views. There were four adults in our group and this was the perfect space, not too big, not to small. The mattresses and beds are sooo comfy and that makes a big difference. There were plenty of towels, pillows and extra blankets. It is really a great place to stay.
Beautiful property near the top of the Virginia Creeper Trail
Loved the cabin but there was no communication from the owner as to how to even get in. We had to call and speak with a property manager to gain access to the cabin and I have yet to receive my damage deposit back from our stay two weeks ago. The rental is beautiful and quaint but there needs to be more communication from the owner/manager.
This is the second time we've stayed at the Deer Run cabin and we just love it. The kids love the loft and exploring the woods and trails near the cabin. I love sitting around the camp fire chit chatting and catching up with kids who are usually too busy to look us in the eye. We are already planning our next stay. The cabin is small but with all the outdoor space it feels huge. It's like camping, but with a fridge and bed and flush toilet. I recommend this cabin to all my friends heading up to ride the Virginia Creeper.
Located on the southwest side of Whitetop mountain, the second highest peak in Virginia, 15 miles from the famous Appalachian Tail town of Damascus, VA. The property is a five minute bike ride to the renowned Virginia Creeper bike rail trail. Ten minutes away by car are trailheads for accessing the Appalachian trail, one on the top of Whitetop mountain off of route 600, the other around the corner on route 601. Trout fishing is available on Green Cove Creek and the famed Whitetop Laurel River which run along the Virginia Creeper Trail.
