About this property

The Byre an airy ground floor cottage in an area of outstanding natural beauty

New for Spring 2023 The Byre at Ashes Farm is a sister property to Ashes Farm Cottage Vrbo reference 11084277.
On the edge of the village The Byre @ Ashes Farm dates back to the 18th century and forms part of the grade 2 listed building of Ashes Farm. Sadly we do not accept pets in the property. The accommodation offers you 2 bedrooms with an airy lounge diner and brand new kitchen and shower room, all on the ground floor. There is one step into the shower room and one step into the master bedroom. We provide onsite parking for The Byre which also offers you great outdoor space, a private garden for relaxing and the use of the acre paddock for those with more energy. The Byre affords you a home from home feel for long or short stays, minimum of 2 nights.

Close to the iconic Dorset seaside town of Lyme Regis, about 15 minutes to the Cobb, we are also only 20 minutes drive to other lovely beaches along the East Devon coast including, Beer, Seaton Sidmouth and Branscombe to name just 4. Seaton has a fabulous Tramway taking you along the river Axe to Colyton via Colyford.

The town of Axminster is 2 minutes in the car from The Byre with 2 supermarkets Tesco & Co-op - Thursday is market day and there is a small range of independent shops here too. Axminster also has a wonderful Waffle House and other restaurants and pubs with a number offering take-aways, from Curry to Burgers, Chinese to pizza. But don’t expect big name brands these are independent eateries who offer a warm welcome as well as great food.

The train station at Axminster gives you the flexibility to travel into Exeter or towards Salisbury without worrying about parking or navigating the city centre.

The famous River Cottage HQ is only 15 minutes or so by car with a new onsite eatery.

We have a cricket pitch and play park across the road from us which will entertain the little ones (and maybe not so little ones).

We have a pub in the village,The New Inn, a short stroll away, serving food most lunchtimes and evenings, refer to kitchen opening time’s advertised, as this varies depending on the time of the year. We can personally recommend The New Inn for its friendly welcome and very good value pub food.

Across the A35, about a 3 minute walk, is Millers Farm shop where they do a good breakfast selection, lunch or just some delicious cake! Stock up on luxury essentials like chocolate! or local veg, meat, fish and creamy milk. You will also find a range of plants for sale and a fresh fish shop, there is a well stocked wine section in the farm shop stocking local wines from Dalwood vineyards, Castlewood and Lyme Bay wines as well as the usual suspects including beer or cider.

We have a shop, attached to the petrol station, just around the corner for bits and bobs you may have forgotten and there is also a Greggs here for all your baked goods and a Subway for filled rolls.

We have 2 churches in the village which can be seen from the cottage - don’t worry the bells don’t usually start until about 10am on Sundays.

The market town of Honiton is 15 to 20 minutes away in the car and the M5 and Exeter is around 30 minutes drive.

Slightly further afield you will find the wilds of Dartmoor and Exmoor or if you prefer some retail therapy there is always Exeter and Taunton. Lots to do in Devon for all ages from canoeing along the canal at Exeter to visiting the Zoo at Paignton, or The Animal Park at Axminster. Crealy theme park and World of country life for the younger generation are always a hit - The Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth is free to enter with lovely walks, play park restaurant and shop, so do pop along to meet the long-eared residents!

We are waiting to give you a warm welcome and we are really proud of our 2nd holiday property - feedback has been amazing from our first season, please check the online reviews, also under Ashes Farm Cottage. Our cleanliness standards are so important to us, as we know they are to you, previous guests at The Cottage have commented that this is the cleanest holiday rental they have ever stayed in! Any questions do get in touch with me. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Spotlessly clean, convenient and comfortable.
Really enjoyed our stay in this recently restored period building, set in the lovely village of Kilmington. Well appointed, with good off-road parking. A very good base for access to the Jurassic Coast, and attractions in West Dorset and East Devon. The owners were friendly, welcoming and close at hand. Recommended.

Hidden gem
What a beautiful cottage. Absolutely spotless and in a fabulous location, close to the coast and local shops, restaurants and amenities. We are so happy that we found this lovely place to stay. Neil and Sarah (and Buddy) were fantastic, friendly and warm. We are already planning our next visit and we have told all our friends and family to consider Ashes Farm for their holiday. Thanks for making our stay so wonderful. We can't wait to come back! We left today and we were sad to go. Maz and Co x
